Chuck Sperry Marilyn Manson Poster in San Francisco

Running out of adjectives to describe how rad Chuck's posters are. Got the English Beat and Down poster the other day and they are just amazing in person. I digress

From Chuck:

Marilyn Manson played in San Francisco, California at The Warfield on Friday, August 28, 2009. Seemed somehow appropriate to wake up the next morning and watch Senator Ted Kennedy's funeral, and the passing of Camelot.

I designed and printed this undead 5 color silkscreen gig poster, using metallic tints and translucent layers.

Ian Millard Wilderness 1 preview

Ian let a little preview out of his next print Wilderness 1. Wilderness 1 will be created using 8 hand cut stencils and spraypaint. The print size will be 18"x24". Above is a picture of the black stencil be sure to click on it for a larger picture to check out the detail. Now keep in mind he hand cut out all of that. And thats just one of the 8 stencils. That is just nuts. And that is also why his work rocks.

Them Crooked Vultures Belgium Festival video

Josh Homme teamed up with Dave Grohl and John Paul Jones to form a rad new group called Them Crooked Vultures. They’ve played a handful of shows now and more viral video keeps popping up. Here they are at some festival in Belgium being kickass. It sucks that they haven’t released any proper music yet because this live bootleg crap doesn’t do the talent in this band justice.

Release something already!

Pearl Jam Outside Lands Festival San Francisco poster by Ames Bros

From Pewter

Two versions of the poster from last nights Pearl Jam show were created by Ames Bros. The one shown on top was sold at the Ames booth for $40 and signed and numbered out of 500. The other one was at the Outside Lands Festival merch booths.

I like the colors on the first one but you can't read Pearl Jam anywhere. EMEK's Neil Young poster that spelled out his name was a much better execution of this concept.

“Moonalice at The Green Spot” Poster by Chuck Sperry

Wow this is just gorgeous.

From Chuck:

When I heard that Moonalice was playing at The Green Spot in Coos Bay, Oregon on Saturday, August 22, 2009, I thought, let’s make a red, pink, orange and magenta poster. I guess that’s just how my contrary mind works. The warm colors also contrast the euphonious green spot which I also couldn’t resist. The Moonalice Series also celebrates it’s 200th poster. Moonalice legend says that all work and no play makes Obama a dull boy, so on a wise wombat’s advice the President of the Free World found himself vacationing in another bright green spot on this big blue marble, Martha’s Vinyard, this very day, chipping golf balls and waiting for Tiger. The POTUS may have a long wait for Tiger – Mr. Woods has plans. Or as one might tweet: “Woke up, had breakfast, went back to sleep. Life’s good LOL, IMHO, OMG.”

Cameron Crowe Directed Pearl Jam Music Video “The Fixer”

The video was filmed at Seattle’s Shadowbox Theater, and aside from shooting the performance with green screens on the sides and background, projecting images of the crowd and or band, it’s a pretty typical video. Not that I’m expecting a music video to have a budget now-a-days. Not that I’ve seen a music video on MTV in years… As the music industry continues to struggle, gone are the days of big money big production music videos.

Real Pearl Jam fans were not even allowed in during the filming of the video. All those people in the "crowd" are hired "fans". Pearl Jam finally makes a video after years of refusing to and dont even use their real fans in it, yet they claim to have such a strong connection to their fans. This video will be used by Target for the ad campaign for the new album Backspacer. What would Pearl Jam of 15 years ago think of the hypocritical Pearl Jam of today ?

Art Basel Miami: Shepard Fairey x Country Club

As part of the programs surrounding Art Basel Miami Beach this year, Shepard Fairey will unveil a major new mural consisting of a barricade structure covered with paintings. Located at The Fountainhead Residency property, an artist’s studio program in a residential-neighborhood of Miami, the site will be an unexpected venue for Fairey’s work. The artist’s typical approach to placing his images involves urban explorations of neglected, unclaimed or interstitial sites. The blank canvas of the barricade will provide a significant expanse for Fairey to develop a cohesive series of images. The project is being produced by Country Club, a gallery with locations in Los Angeles and Cincinnati, in partnership with the Miami Art Museum and The Fountainhead Residency.

New Langhorne Slim Album and Tour

Sneak Attack Media sent over info on the new album and tour by Langhorne Slim.

Check out the single below it sounds really good.

Be Set Free (Kemado Records)
Release Date: September 29, 2009

It is a special time in the land of Kemado Records as they are so proud to announce and present Be Set Free, the mighty third album by Langhorne Slim.

One of the most endearing and standout qualities of Slim's live shows is the sureness that one is always entering a genuine gospel-like musical experience full of little miracles. Be Set Free has captured this charisma and spirit -the "hold your heart" moments and "raise a drink" dance vibes shine throughout with lush string arrangements and the fine sonic talents of drummer Malachi DeLorenzo and new bassist Jeff Ratner. Langhorne's stronger than ever vocals lead the journey blending his poetry through the beautiful chaos and bearing a wisdom that reflects a broken heart battling the perils of true hope.

Be Set Free is Langhorne's most cinematic and cohesive effort to date. Slim has truly reached a point of light where these songs come from wide-eyed maturity and mastered craft.

Gut wrenching lyrics and gorgeous merry melodies-it would be easy to categorize it as folk, but this time-it's much more complex than just that slice of pie. Sweet hallelujah choruses bleed throughout tracks like "Land Of Dreams" and "Say Yes" and turn to the darkness of blues filled "I Love You, But Goodbye".

Guitar in Sea Major - handmade batik wall hanging by EMEK

The Faded Line has put a few more of these very popular EMEK Batik's up for sale. Only 100 were made and they are signed by EMEK.

Each batik is hand painted and numbered - approx 68" x 45". No two batiks are the same! In addition to a wall hanging, some people frame batiks or even wear as a sarong. Limit two per order.

The word batik (pronounced Bateek) means "wax written" and this is basically what batik is. It is a way of decorating cloth by covering part of it with a coat of wax and then dyeing the cloth. The waxed area keeps its original color and when the wax is removed the contrast between the dyed and undyed area makes the pattern. Big, bold designs in bright colors are most striking.

The fabric is 100% Indonesian rayon. Made from natural plant cellulose (in this case coconut fiber). The fiber is put through a process using alkaline, making into a woven fiber. It makes for a good durable textile. There are many different qualities of rayon and we only work with the highest quality.

The dyes are a colorfast - the same as the dyes used for any textiles. Unfortunately it is not a natural dye; as natural dyes will wear and fade very quickly. However, the dye baths go in to a filtration process being disposed which is a progressive environmental step for the people of Bali. All the dyes are hand blended to get the different shades. Then they are literally painted between the wax lines with paint brushes.

A portion of every sale will go towards new filtration systems. The family who makes each wall hanging by hand is paid very well and hopes you love our product!

The Guitar in Sea Major was originally used on an event poster for the 10,000 Lakes Festival - beautifully illustrated by Emek.

"this one is going on my sons wall for sure" - Emek

Please get to know my newest sponsor Malleus Rock Art Lab of Italy

I am more than pleased to introduce you to my newest sponsor, Malleus. A huge favorite within the collector community and artist community alike. Please stop by their web site and get ready to have your mind blown http://malleusdelic.com/

Malleus is an artistic collective devoted to rock music and to its historical image inventory, born in Italy at the beginning of the new century. Music and drawing are the main coordinates of a world where the trio takes its first steps, realizing record covers, fanzines and underground magazines' illustrations, images and logos for the web and also concert posters.

Malleus is an omnivore creature. The iconography at the base of their work originates from a vast scenery including figurative arts, in particular Expressionism and Symbolism, Art Nouveau and Surrealism, Pop Art and Psychedelic Art, and also comics, photography, cinema and literature. All these ingredients blend in with the main element of their poetics; that is the female form, the primordial goddess, from whom everything comes.

Even in its own small way, Malleus represents an anachronistic and non-logical exception, in a country that seems to have put aside child dreams, creativity and cultural independence which are suffocated by a media subculture that infects every stratum of society from above.

At the end of 2002, the trio of Malleus, printing their first handmade silkscreen, take the critical step towards a walk that will make them known as one of the most remarkable realities in the Poster Art scene of today. Through the handprinted silkscreen, a simple gigposter turns into something different and particular. Every copy is unrepeatable, a pop piece made through real physical effort, on the precious papers of Italian tradition. Its layers of colours pulsate and flutter in the light like organic matter.

At the end of 2008 Malleus realized "The Hammer of God", a book displaying the more than 150 silkscreen posters realized by the art collective for the most diverse artists and bands in the first 5 years of activity. The Hammer of God" is commented by artists, collectors and friends including Paul Grushkin and Dennis King (The Art of Rock and the Art of Modern Rock), Firehouse, David Tibet (Current 93), Jermaine Rogers, Alan Forbes, Justine Hampton, Amanda Palmer (Dresden Dolls), Al Cisneros (Om), Brant Bjork, and many more.

Malleus has been on tour in the USA promoting the book at the end of 2008, with shows in Portland, San Francisco, Los Angeles and Denver.

Several Malleus' artworks have been displayed in various collective and individual art shows, and have been included in "Art of Modern Rock", the gig poster gospel by Paul Grushkin and Dennis King, in “Art of Modern Rock: Mini #1 A-Z” and “Art of Modern Rock: Mini #2 Poster Girls” by Dennis king, in "Swag posters" by Judith Salavetz and in "A fistful of Rock'n'Roll" by Sal Canzonieri.
