Suuns and Warpaint Posters By Spiegelsaal

Torsten Jahnke and Jochen Mönig of Spiegelsaal have been busy creating posters.

SUUNS gig poster, Le Guess Who? Festival, Utrecht, Netherlands

70 × 50 cm (27.6×19.7")
4-color screenprint on antique white 300 gsm Design-Offset paper in 2 versions:
- Yellow, Orange, Black, Red (35/50 s/n)
- Day-Glo-Yelllow, Orange, Black, Red (15/50 s/n)

»...repetition, and unsettling deviations of said repetition...«
SUUNS’ descriptions of their music lead to Spiegelsaal's first canary-motive-poster, at last!

They curated a part of one of their favorite festivals, the fantastic Le Guess Who? in Utrecht, Netherlands.
Their great closing show on Sunday night was also the last show of their current European tour and needed a proper poster to celebrate this.
Which gave Spiegelsaal the possibility to live out one of their secret obsessions....canaries! Or...Astro-Canaries?
They have a few copies left in their shop: http://www.spiegelsaal.net/eng/shop/sps-027-e/

Next up is Warpaint.

WARPAINT
2016, German Tour, Cologne, Berlin

Christina Inkster Twilight Delight Print

Here is a little something the fluffheads and other fans of fungi should dig. These are the latest prints from Christina Inkster titled Twilight Delight.

She shared here idea for the prints:
The back story behind 'Twilight Delight' is due to living in Edinburgh; the magical Scottish capital that inspired Harry Potter. There is something quite mysterious and magical about Edinburgh where you just know that when the lights go out and your back is turned; the fairies come out to play.
Regular (black and white) and the Variant (green hue) print titled 'Twilight Delight'. These are both available to purchase from her store: shop.iaminkster.com for £15 each with £4.99 P&P and are both digital prints of the original drawing on 250gsm matte paper and are open print editions.

George Clinton Flash Light Poster By Shepard Fairey Release

Shepard Fairey is taking a break from his politcal messages this week for the release of poster featuring the Godfather of Funk George Clinton who at 75 is still showing the little boys how it's done.
I remember hearing George Clinton’s “Atomic Dog” as a kid, but I didn’t really become hip to P-Funk (Parliament and Funkadelic) until the late 80’s, and early 90’s. At that time I realized how much of my favorite hip hop included samples from P-Funk and George’s other projects as a creator and producer. Clinton’s P-Funk inspired the West Coast G-Funk sound, and his influence can be heard all over the N.W.A family tree of Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, and Ice Cube as well as contemporaries like Ice-T, Digital Underground, Tupac, De La Soul, Public Enemy, Notorious BIG, Wu-Tang and many more. Clinton has worked with acts as diverse as Zapp & Roger, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Kendrick Lamar, his contribution to modern music is massive.

I met George at Art Basel in 2009 when he stopped by to check out a mural that I was creating. He was friendly and funny, so I felt at ease. George mentioned that he made art and said he might want to stop by my studio in LA sometime and I thought he was just being cordial, but sure enough, he has dropped by a couple of times! We talked about music, including drug raids and police harassment when he toured with fellow Detroit natives The MC5. We also talked about me doing a portrait of him and the time finally came when I was asked to be part of a P-Funk art show. “Flash Light” is one of my favorite Parliament songs, so I riffed on that as an opportunity to put the spotlight on a musical hero of mine who happens to be a very cool and funny guy.
– Shepard
George Clinton Flash Light. 18 x 24 inches. Screen Print. Signed by Shepard Fairey. Edition of 450. $65. Available Thursday, December 1 at 10AM (PST) on ObeyGiant.com

Guzu Gallery Vulgaris Mortem: A Sofubi Art Toy Exhibition

Guzu Gallery x Violence Toy x Krotpong Industries Presents
Vulgaris Mortem: A Sofubi Art Toy Exhibition
Saturday, December 3, 2016 • 3-6pm
Guzu Gallery • Austin, TX

This December, Violence Toy and Krotpong Industries will team up with Guzu Gallery to bring you a one day only event featuring soft vinyl art toys!

The event will take place on Saturday, December 3rd, following the Friday night opening of Strange Beasts IV — the fourth installment of Guzu’s highly successful kaiju & Japanese pop culture themed group art show. The team has assembled an exceptional cast of talented toy makers for this exhibition…and cannot wait to reveal their many outstanding works of art!

Black plague, funerals, winter, death…these are the themes of Vulgaris Mortem. Each artist was asked to follow a pair of plague doctors on their dark journey to inspiration. Where they chose to go from there was entirely up to them.

This will be a one-day-only event, where those attending can take their purchases home at the end of the evening, or in-person at their convenience at a later date. Following the show, each piece that is still available will go on sale online for a limited time.

Sales will start as soon as the doors open and will be followed by a live musical set from surf rock kings and kaiju enthusiasts, The Del-Vipers. Admission is free and all ages are welcome.

Created specifically for Pangeaseed, this piece by Li-Hill centers on the species of Blue Marlin to raise awareness of the plight marine life face. Caught in the Net is both literal and metaphorical as all ocean as well as terrestrial life seems to be caught in the crosshairs on humanity's explosive march 'forward'. Due to over consumption and pollution the oceans have never been so threatened as they are today. As the rock bed for life on this planet, the oceans are the lifeblood that course through our ecosystems and make our existence.

Ween San Francisco Poster By Emek Release Details

For the band WEEN’s show in San Francisco Emek wanted to pay tribute to one of the most famous images in classic posters from San Francisco. (among other changes, he turned the skull into the classic “Boognish” logo from Ween.)

At the bottom of his poster, Emek wrote a brief description:
“Skull and Roses” originally appeared in 1913. Drawn by Edmund Joseph Sullivan (1869-1933), known as E.J. Sullivan. He was a British book illustrator who worked in a style which merged the British tradition of illustration from the 1860's with aspects of Art Nouveau. In the Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam, first published in 1913, among many fanciful and many black and white drawings, he used images of skeletons. One such E.J Sullivan illustration of a skeleton was used by 60's poster legends Stanley Mouse and Alton Kelley for a Grateful Dead poster in 1966, and later for an album cover in 1971. Here it surfaces again, hand drawn in my style. Apologies to all those "eye-conic" artists... love EMEK... and your friends at WEEN.

The pinholes and creases are part of the printing in order to resemble the old 60's posters that people would tack around town and on the walls of their rooms.

Size: 17" x 24”
Artist Edition of 111 on pearl paper
Signed, Numbered, Doodled and Embossed.
Price: $125 + shipping

On sale at www.emekstudios.com click on the NEW RELEASE image to open the sale page. The BUY NOW buttons will appear sometime between 12:00pm and 12:30pm PST on Tuesday Nov 22th

César Moreno Kubo and the Two Strings And Graham Erwin Coraline Posters Release From Mondo

It’s no secret that Mondo are huge fans of the films that the geniuses at Laika produce. Every movie they release is brimming with creativity and originality from top to bottom. Earlier this year saw the release of their 4th film, KUBO AND THE TWO STRINGS, and it’s easily one of Mondo's favorite movies of 2016.

From the gorgeous stop-motion animation to the music and character design and story, it’s completely firing on all cylinders. The film will be released on home video today and, in celebration, Mondo will have a new poster by César Moreno for the title. They released the soundtrack on vinyl in August and were so blown away by César’s artwork, they knew instantly they’d want to see his take on the amazing fight scene with Kubo, Monkey and Beatle in the Hall of Bones… and Mondo couldn’t be happier with the result.

In addition to KUBO, they’ll also have a fantastic new poster for Laika’s first feature, CORALINE, by Graham Erwin. The posters will be available Tuesday (11/22) at a random time via mondotees.com.
