Jeff Soto Magic Message Art Print Release From PangeaSeed

No comments:

PangeaSeed is pleased to announce the latest print of the ongoing Sea of Change: The Year of Living Dangerously - Vol. 2 print suite by guest artist Jeff Soto. The highlighted species of this edition is the endangered Goliath Grouper (Epinephelus Lanceolatus).

Artists: Jeff Soto
Title: “The Magic Message”
Species: Goliath Grouper
Price: $100 plus shipping
Dimensions: 18x18 inches
Edition size: 50 hand embellished giclees with hand deckle edges

Available Wednesday, March 1, 2017 from 12pm PST at https://shop.pangeaseed.co/

Artist statement:
“My love and respect for nature was instilled in me at a young age. My parents enjoyed the outdoors and took us camping as often as they could. As kids we explored the Santa Ana River which seemed a world away from our neighborhood street. This river in the desert was a place to look for hawks, coyotes, wild pigs, crawdad, tadpoles, and fish.. I was always interested in fish!!

The Magic Message is about the beauty and wonder of the natural world. It takes inspiration from multiple undersea and land creatures. The plant is part cacti and part coral, I was looking at undersea volcano tube worms and the white crabs that live there. The base, the vessel that is holding everything is the Goliath Grouper. I have always been interested in these enormous sea bass, as a kid I remember reading that they could grow as big as cars and swallow divers! They are now endangered by over fishing and human impact, as they are quite friendly and easy to spear or catch. They live long lives, reproduce slowly and need protection."
A portion of the proceeds from the sales of each print go directly to support PangeaSeed's ongoing efforts to help save our seas and threatened marine life via art and activism (ARTivism).

Wake Up Print By Shepard Fairey Release

No comments:

Shepard Fairey's new “Wake Up!” print is a simple but urgent plea for all of us to activate our moral compasses and speak up. For those who have been silent, it is time to open our eyes, our minds, and speak out for human rights and human dignity.
The title and text in the print were inspired in part by a lyric from punk band T.S.O.L.’s song “Silent Majority.” I worked on their just released album “The Trigger Complex” so I’ve been listening to their music a lot lately. I support Planned Parenthood and will be making a donation to the Planned Parenthood Action Fund to stand with the millions of people Planned Parenthood provides care for each year. – Shepard

For The Children Artwork Inspired By and Dedicated to the Legend of the Wu-Tang Clan

Title: For The Children: Art Inspired By and Dedicated to the legend of The Wu-Tang Clan
Curator: Chris Breeden
Location: Final Friday Gallery Walk - Frameshop OTR - 1317 Main St, Cincinnati, OH 45202
Date: Final Friday February 24th 2017
Time: 6 - Midnight
Website: http://www.wutangisforthechildren.com
Facebook Event Page: https://www.facebook.com/events/1888739638079687/

Overveiw:
"For The Children" is a group art show inspired by and dedicated to the legend of The Wu-Tang Clan. The show is directed by Chris Breeden in his curatorial debut and features the work of 18 of Cincinnati's best known artists across multiple formats including mixed media, sculpture, print making, photography, woodworking, fiber, needlepoint, painting and drawing. For those of you that just go to art shows for the free beer, beverages will kindly be provided by our friends at West Sixth Brewing Company.

Details from Chris
Why I Put This Show Together:
First. I have a mild obsession with the Wu-Tang Clan. Everyone around me always seems to find it both hilarious and moderately acceptable at the same time. I don't have any Wu tattoos or anything but I probably have more clothes, memorabilia and records than most. The older I have got though, the more I have come to find that I am not alone. People love the Wu. If I am walking downtown wearing a Wu-Tang t-shirt, people will literally yell "Wu-Tang Forever!" or "I Love the Wu!" at me. People of all classes, races and socioeconomic backgrounds, men, women, guys in business suits, people in cars, young people, older people. It's crazy. It's like their was a secret Wu-Tang Society out there or something. So I am like, I have got to do something with this....

Second. I know a ton of amazing artists. My family owns Arnold's Bar and Grill and I have worked there for the last 13 years. Besides the fact that Arnold's has been a go to bar and consistent hang out for the art community since way before I was born. It is also smack dab in the middle of the Design District, putting me in constant contact with some of the best designers and photographers in the country. The same people that design and photograph everything for Proctor and Gamble, Kroger's and more. Through my years of working there I have formed close relationships with some of the best and most respected artists in the business. People like Pam Kravetz, Keith Neltner, James Billiter, Tommy Sheehan and more. I have this crazy huge pool of talented artists around me so I am like, I have got to do something with this....

Third. The last part came together when I started using the Frame shop to frame some of the artwork that I have collected. Every time I would go in there I would end up spending forever in there talking to Jake or whoever was working and I built a relationship with them. I realized they could help me create my vision and it doesn't get much better in Cincinnati than The Final Friday Art Crawl. So, everything came together and the light bulb went off in my head and now we have: For The Children

Keith Neltner's Piece titled "Counting Souls". It is based off of The GZA's album Liquid Swords and the movie Shogun Assassin. It is an edition of 15 for $45 http://www.neltnersmallbatch.com/store

No comments:

Dave Hunter is a great artist and great person that many of you know. Some of you may remember his fight and ordeal to get his daughter back from Europe a couple of years ago. Now Dave is in a fight for his life and with our help will prevail. Thanks to my buddy Wayne for giving me the heads up on this.

Here is the info from his fund raising page.

Many of you know by now that Dave Hunter is battling that beast known as brain cancer. He was diagnosed in October 2016 and was instantly caught up in the whirlwind of surgery, radiation and repeated rounds of chemotherapy.

Dave is a devoted single father and is strong and determined to beat this terrible thing so he can be around for years to see his daughter grow into adulthood.

While so many of you beautiful people have already reached out with your time and resources, others have asked how the best way to donate money is, so we decided to set this up on Dave's behalf. All funds will go towards Dave's medical, living and mounting legal expenses so that he can focus on healing his brain and getting back to his creative center.

All prayers, healing energies and good vibes welcome!

Cristian Eres The Fifth Element Movie Posters Release

No comments:

Cult Classic Prints Presents: The Fifth Element "Caretakers of the Stones" & "Safekeeper of the Stones" Variant by Cristian Eres

Available now via www.cultclassicprints.com

Following Cristian's Arrival print, next up in their sci-fi series reaching out to other worlds, they couldn't think of a movie more perfect than The Fifth Element for Cristian's style, those of you that know the movie well will know Jean Giraud "Moebius" created storyboards and concept designs on many parts of the movie along with fellow collaborator, artist & friend Jean-Claude Mezieres. Mezieres's Valérian and Laureline comic book series (often referenced as inspiration for George Lucas's fairly well known space series) is also being adapted by Luc Besson this year for screen, so it kind of felt only right to approach Cristian to produce a print (or two) for The Fifth Element who cites Moebius as being his main inspiration for his art and who is a huge fan of sci-fi.

Regular colors inspired by both Korben and Leeloo's clothing thus also a nod to Jean Paul Gaultier.

Variant wise they decided to make it quite different, art nouveau in style, with the Mondoshawans taking centre stage in the regular and being the caretakers of the stones we thought this would be an appropriate companion piece (at a smaller size) with the Diva being entrusted by the Mondoshawans to safekeep the stones.

Kevin Tong Arrival Movie Poster Release From Mondo

No comments:

Happening on Thursday, Mondo will have a couple of new posters for one of the best films to come out of 2016: Denis Villeneuve's stunning sci-fi tale, Arrival. Mondo are such huge fans of the movie and when the opportunity came to create a poster for it, they knew Kevin Tong would be a great fit to handle artwork. Kevin has created a beautiful and poignant scene that manages to perfectly balance the emotional core at the center of film faced by Louise Banks (played expertly by Amy Adams) with the cold and desolate production design of the spacecraft. Kevin's composition and use of negative space cleverly amplifies and creates a mood of isolation and tension while also serving as a visual representation of the "weight of knowledge" being dropped on Louise throughout the film.

Arrival just arrived on Blu-ray and Digital HD this week, so if you haven't seen the film, they recommend course correcting as soon as possible. The posters will be available at a random time Thursday at Mondotees.com.

Tom Whalen Anthrax New York New York Poster Release

No comments:

Rockabilla has a new poster by Tom Whalen dropping this week and Anthrax is featured.

From Tom:
It wasn't until I was in college that I got my first real dose of Anthrax with 1993's "Sound of White Noise."

As a child of the '80s who grew up on the east coast, you'd think I'd have discovered and loved them from their outset, but with a decidedly sheltered musical taste (shaped mainly by the pop hits of NBC's Friday Night Videos), it wasn't meant to be.

The upside of my college-years epiphany is that there was a treasure trove of classic Anthrax albums sitting there waiting for me to discover. I devoured everything from "Spreading the Disease" to "Among the Living" to "Persistence of Time" in short order.

Twenty-some years after I found them, Anthrax is creating some of the most vital, exciting music of their careers. They remain one of my all-time favorite bands and it is an honor to have collaborated with them on the "New York, New York" design that celebrates their roots, spirit and longevity.
The poster measures 18x24 and it's a 3 color screen print poster on Cougar Natural Paper
Hand-numbered Limited edition of 181
Printed by Lady Lazarus

Available on www.rockabilia.com at 11:00 a.m. CST on Thursday, February 16th
