Beneath Our Bear Skins is part of a recent collection of 3-dimensional wall sculptures titled the Altar series.
Altar is a series looking into the culture of worship and how identity is often found or lost in such acts. An altar is literally a raised edifice used to conduct religious acts of worship. Figuratively it is used to describe a thing that a person attaches great emphasis on, usually at the cost of something else.
We all have altars and we all worship. Most of them are not literal structures or ceremonies, but instead take the form of pursuits and obsessions mostly having to do with personal glory. Death, selflessness, humbleness, etc considered useless to our personal altars. As a culture we strive for glory, to be known, for beauty and in the process lose our true selves.
