David Soukup's Bumblebee Sunrise is a feast of anachronisms - the most praiseworthy of visual jewels and the ones used far too carelessly in contemporary art today. In this instance, however, every jewel is placed correctly and with a sense of balance. The rotary phone, the signage, the building, and (most of all) the bewitching female with her gaze framed perfectly by styled hair - all of these elements combine into a periscope view of mid-60's to early 70's (Note: OUR assumption) and make the entirety a wonderful flight of line and color.

The originals (he usually does 4-5 similar paintings of each scene) can be had here for a reasonable price: http://www.theblackbookgallery.com/artists/david-soukup/
ReplyDeleteI have had one of his paintings hanging on my wall for a while now, they're pretty good quality and affordable for original art. The only part I've never been a fan of is the multiples of the same scenes, might as well just call it a limited series of 5 instead.
