323East Sets Date for Final Show, Announces New Global Headquarters in Detroit’s Eastern Market
After five years and 50+ art exhibitions on Fourth Street in downtown Royal Oak, progressive art gallery 323East will be closing its doors. In its place, 323East’s offshoot 1xRUN — an international limited edition online print house and art gallery — is expanding their global operations with the purchase of a refurbished three-story, 10,000-square-foot building in Detroit.
The new space — located at 1410 Gratiot in historic Eastern Market — will house a gallery, artists workshop with screen printing capabilities, artist residencies, a digital printing facility and a new office space for the expanding international art company. 1xRUN’s new facilities are slated to open in late March/early April. Detroit-based architect Tadd Heidgerken, whose portfolio includes Slow’s To Go, Astro Coffee & Red Bull House of Art, is handling the design and build out.
”This is a natural progression for us,” explains co-founder Jesse Cory. “After years of living and breathing the city, we’re excited to finally bring our business downtown. We have a huge amount of respect for the history of Detroit’s art scene and look forward to participating in the next chapter.”
To celebrate the end of 323East & the end of the Mayan Calendar, the renowned Royal Oak gallery will host its final show — the aptly titled “Apocalypto: An End Of An Era” — on Friday, December 21 from 6-11pm. Visit 323East.com for details & a list of participating artists.
