CISPA may have successfully slid through the House with virtually zero media attention due to the Boston Marathon incident, but internet activists from Anonymous are organization a net-wide blackout on April 22 to generate awareness over the privacy-shattering legislation.

If you’re aware of CISPA, then you are likely keen to the multitude of ways in which this bill enables major corporations to absolutely demolish any remaining boundaries when it comes to anonymity and privacy on the web. In fact it not only enables personal data mining by major internet corporations, but highly encourages it — all in the name of ‘fighting cyber criminals’ and terrorists.

The Cyber Intelligence Sharing and Protection Act (CISPA) is equally as threatening as 2012′s Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA), which garnered much more attention from internet-based companies and social media activists. So what’s the difference? Well, outside of the lack of real media coverage inhibiting resistance from internet users, CISPA is actually the wet dream of many major corporations. Corporations that could have actually been shut down under SOPA for minor copyright infringements through user-driven content, but now stand to benefit greatly from CISPA.

This is due to the fact that CISPA allows for corporations to engaged in unprecedented amounts of personal data collection and sharing. It’s important to understand that CISPA removes the application of the Fourth Amendment to internet users in the name of fighting cyber criminals and hackers, allowing for private companies to share your data in real time. But who will these corporations be sharing the data with?
