Scott Scheidly's "The Pinks" Gallery Show at Spoke Art
This really looks like a fun show to check out. Spoke Art gallery in San Francisco is pleased to present "The Pinks" a new exhibition of original paintings by Florida, USA-based artist Scott Scheidly.
"The Pinks" explores the cultural and social implications of color and how the predefined notions that accompany these perceptions can alter one's identity and subsequent world view. By incorporating either hyper-masculinized or historically infamous figures, Scheidly further drives the point home, making a mockery of his subjects though biting socio/sexual satire.
Looking beyond the initial shock value, Scheidly further raises questions regarding power and those who wield it. By incorporating notorious individuals such as Adolf Hitler, Heinrich Himmler and Kim Jong Il, alongside religious leaders such as Pope John Paul II and Ayatollah Khomeini, one can't help but wonder about the personal insecurities that power must bring on in these subjects and such insecurities are manifested.
Featuring thirteen acrylic on masonite paintings, Scheidly's debut solo show with the gallery serves as a continuation of his ongoing pink portrait series which first debuted in 2011at a Spoke Art pop up exhibit in New York City. Since then, Scheidly's works have been exhibited (and subsequently sold out) at the Scope Art Fair during Art Basel Miami Beach in 2012 as well as at the 2012 and 2011 ArtPadSF fine art fair in San Francisco.
Please join Spoke Art Thursday, August 1st for the artist's first solo show with the gallery. Complimentary refreshments will be served and the artist will be in attendance.
A brand new limited edition print will also be available for purchase at this event.
"The Pinks" will be on view until Saturday, August 24th.
