"This piece created in the Spring of 2013 as part of a recent body of work focused on particular aspects of the human condition. I’m really interested in our (humanity’s) penchant for war and destruction. And that’s everything from a bar brawl to gang warfare to all out war. It’s such a strange and fascinating aspect of humanity that doesn’t seem like it can be abated.
But the paintings themselves are meant to view this through a particular lens. What happens when you accept this? The idea that this is just part and parcel to being a human being. There’s a certain beauty in that acceptance…not everything is black and white. That’s where the title came from. That small area, the excluded middle, that often gets overlooked.
