Please welcome a new member to the Inside the Rock Poster Street Team, Matthew Eller. By day Matt is a practicing lawyer specializing in civil law practice focusing on copyright law, intellectual property, licensing, transactional law, and real property law. But at night his inner art dork alter ego is set loose on the streets of New York City. Matt currently writes for Street Art News but will be doing stories for Inside the Rock Poster from time to time as well. For the first one he visited David Welker in his studio.

David Welker – Studio Visit & Upcoming Show @ Bottleneck Gallery NYC
David Welker best known for his work designing album covers and concert posters for such bands as Phish, Primus, and the Black Keys (just to name a few) invited me into his studio to witness his creative process and how his work is affected by the space.
Welker’s studio is a large fourth floor renovated loft in Downtown NYC encompassing the majority of an entire floor of an unmarked commercial style building. Welker not only designs, sketches, and silk screens his prints (smaller editions usually under 500) in the loft space, but also lives there with his wife (who he collaborates with regularly) son, and Italian greyhound Honey.
During the visit Welker discussed with me a current commission by Mojo magazine editorial of a Beck sketch (for his new album “Morning Phase”), a concert poster (very limited 200 piece run) for The Black Keys upcoming NYC show at Roseland Ballroom on January 31st., 2014, and in particular his upcoming three man show at The Bottleneck Gallery in Williamsburg Brooklyn Featuring Craig “Tapecat” McCudden, Zach Landrum, and himself opening on May 2nd, 2014.
