Tim Doyle Unreal Estate WORLD PREMIER EXCLUSIVE Print

1 comment:

Glow in the Dark Variant

It is with great pleasure that I present to you "Gary Cooper". Tim Doyle's Sopranos inspired print for the “Unreal Estate” Show. As a huge fan of Sopranos I was so happy when Ken let me be the one to show you the print first (no the text on the bottom does not appear on the poster). But I had to ask Tim in shame where the name came from since I could not remember..It's in the first episode- Tony says to Melfi- "Whatever Happened to Gary Cooper" at the end of his first therapy session. Edition of 100 and 10 on wood.

Opening night Thursday February 2nd, 2012 6pm - 10pm
Show on view through Thursday February 23, 2012

Spoke Art Gallery is proud to present the debut solo show by Austin-based serigraph artist Tim Doyle. In “Unreal Estate,” Doyle explores locations found throughout popular culture in a variety of limited-edition hand-printed screen prints and original art.

From Moe’s Tavern to the Bluth Banana Stand, Doyle’s realistic and illustrative reinterpretations of television’s most iconic places is a captivating voyage. In the artists words, “Unreal Estate’ is a collection of locations that many of us know and have been to on a weekly basis at times, but can never actually visit. These places are in our memories transmitted and entrenched there through a cathode-ray tube. Some of us have been going to these places for decades, some of these places were taken from us, way too soon.”

For this new body of work, Doyle has moved away from his usually big bold colors and comic-book line quality to create a more illustrative style, with muted tones and colors that reflect a mood or time of day. He attempts to preserve and honor the non-physical spaces found in this show with the same care and intention given to iconic real world locations. This series is one artist’s intensely personal journey through a world which is universal to us all. Join the artist as pop culture tour guide this February 2nd.

As an added bonus, the artist will be in attendance for the opening and they are happy to announce that the first 100 guests will receive a complimentary limited edition screen print. But it will be something no one has seen, it's cool but I cant say more than that.

About the artist:
Tim Doyle is an illustrator and print-maker working out of Austin, Texas. Growing up in the suburban sprawl of the Dallas area, he turned inward, only finding joy in comic-books, television and video games. He has run a small chain of comic-book stores, designed t-shirts and self-published. Doyle was also the creative director for The Alamo Drafthouse’s Mondo Posters until 2009, when he built his own studio, Nakatomi Print Labs.

Tim Doyle on preparing for the show:

Last June, after the opening reception to the Quentin versus Coen show in San Francisco, the founder of Spoke Art, Ken Harman, invited me to have a solo show at his gallery later that year. I was immediately flattered- and then the fear set in. If it's just me, not only was I looking at months of work in secret- but the success or failure of the Gallery that month was up to my ability to create and be clever.

I initially was going to do a very diverse show with a bunch of unconnected works, essentially throwing the visual parts of my brain up on the wall and hoping people liked what they saw. But after talking to Ken for a while, he seized on a couple of ideas I had and did what a good gallery owner should do- focus his artist. This is the show that came of that.

"Unreal Estate" is a collection of locations that many of us know and have been to on a weekly basis at times, but we can never actually visit. These places are in our memories- transmitted and entrenched there through a cathode-ray tube. Some of us have been going to these places for decades- some of these places were taken from us, way too soon..

In addition to the many prints and variants (GID and wood) Spoke will also be offering original inks for every image (some shown above). Each comes framed and all are priced very reasonably. If you'd like to be placed on the collector's preview shoot Spoke Art an email.

Malleus The Black Keys Milan Italy poster for tonights show

No comments:

The Black Keys had Italy's own do the poster for the show tonight in Milan. Malleus killed it with this one. So they thought about the idea of a woman with living tattoos, moving out of her body, jumping out of her nails to move all around her, mixing colors and creating shapes. She’s looking at you like she’s waiting to capture you with her tattoos. And there’s probably a secret behind the key lock tattooed on her belly. The Black Keys requested the poster by done in the native language which just adds a great element to the work.

On sale at the show and later in Malleus' Store

Henry Flint and Strictly Kev Cosmonaut art print

This brand new print is the first in a series of four that will see the collaborative work of Henry Flint and Strictly Kev see the light of day as glorious big Gicleé prints.

Henry Flint is an artist best known for his work on the comic book 2000AD, in particular as one of the artists who works on the infamous Judge Dredd series. In 2004 he won Best Comics Artist at the National Comics Awards.

Strictly Kev is a graphic designer who has shaped the look of the Ninja Tune label over the past 15 years. Not only did he design their logo, but also album artwork and logos for the likes of Coldcut, Amon Tobin, The Herbaliser, The Cinematic Orchestra and DJ Food, the latter of which he is now the sole member of. Under the DJ Food moniker he has played to sold out audiences across the globe.

This piece was the cover artwork for the 'Shape of Things That Hum' EP by DJ Food. The inks were done by Mr. Flint and the piece was then coloured by Kev.

It is printed to the very high standards of the Fine Art Trade Guild on 300gsm Somerset Photo Satin which is a 100% cotton paper.

The paper measures 64.5cm x 47.1cm.

SOPA and PIPA Technical Issues Explained Simply in Infographic Picture Form

No comments:

There has been a lot of discussion about SOPA and PIPA recently, the bills that want to cripple the internet, but there are still plenty of people who aren't clear on the issues. And although the bills have been shelved for now, similar threats (e.g., ACTA) loom and it's wise to stay informed of the issues at stake. This infographic lays SOPA's and PIPA's legal and technical technical details out pretty clearly. The graphic from Lumin Consulting covers the main issues and arguments against these bills, including mis-labeling of sites and potential for abuse, based on sources such as Reddit's technical examination of SOPA and Protect IP. The nice thing about infographics is when they're done well, they're easy to scan and read, and this one, as Search Engine Journal notes, is something even non-technical people may understand. So if you know someone who is still unclear about these bills, pass it along. Here's the full image above click to enlarge.

Richard Mille Tourbillon RM 052 Skull Watch

1 comment:

Wholly WOW this is just badass, if you're a fan of skulls in art then this has just about got to be the ultimate. The bridging of technology and high end watch making come together rather often, but unfortunately goes wrong very often too. One of the few that delivers on that end on a consistent basis is Richard Mille. Some of you might remember the entirely sapphire encased watch by the brand.

Now the upcoming Tourbillion RM 052 Skull, once again showcasing the incredible skills of the brand, taking it that one step further than everybody else. A skull on a watch can be the most cheesy thing when done wrong or just slapped onto the dial – well, see how it can be done right here.

“Where others may have been content to exploit the purely visual aspect of the skull, Richard Mille has taken the concept further by integrating it directly into the complete timepiece.

The baseplate and bridges take the form of a grade 5 titanium skull. Richard Mille has pushed the concept further by integrating this into the movement. The upper and lower jaws hold the ruby of the tourbillon cage. The back of the skull is actually the movement’s center bridge. The skeletonized base plate and bridges were subjected to rigorous testing to insure their optimal strength. The entire movement is connected to the case by 4 bridges that are inspired by the crossed bones from flags on pirate ships. The new case design, with its opened flanks, continues this visual allegory to the human skeleton.

The watch will come limited to only 21 pieces – 15 in titanium and 6 in red or white gold.

Chuck Sperry's “Joe Strummer, London 1975″ Print for Dead Rockstars Show

No comments:

Details from Chuck on the poster:

“Joe Strummer, London 1975″
Chuck Sperry and Julian Yewdall
30 x 22
Edition of 50
5 colors on archival cream paper
Signed and Numbered (by Chuck Sperry)
-
Here’s my contribution to the Dead Rockstars show: “Joe Strummer, London 1975″
-
I’m collaborating with UK Photographer, Julian Yewdall, who is a noted chronicler of the Clash and was a former bandmate of Joe Strummer. Julian and Joe played together in the 101ers, Strummer’s band before he joined the Clash.
-
Our piece is a never before released photo entitled “Joe Strummer, London, 1975.” It shows Joe Strummer smoking a hash joint in a London bar. I met Julian Yewdall in London in 2008 and he invited me to his flat, and showed me this photo.
We discussed a sort of liquid light show color treatment at the time, a merging of London punk with San Francisco psychedelia.
-
Having met Bill Ham, San Francisco’s pioneering liquid light show master from the beginning of San Francisco’s psychedelic movement, I had seen the gear he uses to produce his shows and learned something of his techniques. I used film slides and oil and ink to create the liquid light show patterns that work through the print. Julian Yewdall’s reaction to the color treatment I gave the photo, “I like the way you have added to the already existing water marks and dust that I left on the original print, and the addition of colour brings a whole new dimension.”
-
Dead Rockstars seemed the perfect opportunity to release this print collaboration.

Opening reception will be February 2nd 2012 in Eugene Oregon at Blunt Graffix, a 2000 sq. ft. artist studio. Doors open at 6pm and the show runs through February 24th. The art will then move to THE WAVE Art Gallery, located in the historic Whitaker district, and remain until late March.

Wu-Sciples Poster by Two Rabbits Studios celebrate Wu-Tang’s 20 year anniversary

No comments:

Details on the labor of love from Two Rabbit's Studio's:

What better way to celebrate Wu-Tang’s 20 year anniversary than with the release of Wu-Sciples, a ten color print celebrating one of the rawest groups in music. This print has been a long time in the making for us at Two Rabbits. When we had the idea we knew only one person could illustrate it right, Adam Hathorn aka Honkey Kong. We were already major fans of Adams work. He has illustrated jobs for us, been a great host when we were in San Diego and he is one of the best tattoo artist we know. Adam is also Wu obsessed, like us. With that said here is Adam in his own words…

“So far as my memory takes me, my introduction to Wu Tang was when 36 chambers was released in 93. I had to wikipedia that, my memory is not that good. My friend Strobe Beats played me “Wu-Tang Clan Ain’t Nuthing ta Fuck Wit” on a walk man, or some shit, in the cafeteria. The beat made me wanna punch people, much like the hard core and punk rock music that I was listening to at the time. I immediately got a copy, and it was on constant rotation. That was what got me back into hip hop music. Previously I was listening to alot of Public Enemy and alot of the native tongue stuff, Tribe Called Quest, LONS, De La etc. After that hip hop was getting boring. I was young and turned to hard core music, especially in Boston where it thrived at that time. When Wu came with that raw sound with production that was stripped down and unpolished, it was an easy step back in. Wu Tang has been a huge part of music in my life since. I’m sure there’s been few days since that have passed without me hearing Wu in some form. I tattoo all day, or draw all day, so there’s some form of music always playing, and there’s plenty on shuffle.

I was lucky enough to be asked by the guys at Two Rabbits Studios to create the “Wu-sciples” print. Their idea was solid out ofthe gate. Wu Tang last supper with Big Baby Jesus front and center. I said sign me up. The illustration took a bit to do since they’re artist deep, but nonetheless a fun project. Thanks for choosing me to do this print, see you Saturday for the show….. Wu Tang is FOREVER!” -Adam Hathorn
