Black Crowes Three Charms Poster By Nathaniel Deas Release

No comments:

The Black Crowes released their fourth album, Three Snakes and One Charm, almost 25 years ago remaining untouchable when it came to reviving classic-rock sounds and re-imagining them in original new ways. Among Three Snakes' many highlights, "Under a Mountain" was a cryptic Southern rocker (sample lyrics: "Lay down with number 13") that was written in five minutes, according to Rich; "Nebakanezer" was a psychedelic strut laced with serpentine guitars and "(Only) Halfway to Everywhere" an irrepressible singalong; the Indian-flavored "How Much for Your Wings" made for a beguiling detour and "Blackberry" was a funky rhythm & blues penned in the spirit of the band's earlier, breakthrough hit with "Hard to Handle." For the 25th anniversary we wanted to create something as unique as the record, and asked illustrator Nathaniel Deas to take viewers on a visual exploration of the album!

Moebius Spider-Man & Wolverine Posters Release

No comments:

Grey Matter have a true treat for you this week. GMA have the great honor to release the first part of an ongoing series for French artist, cartoonist, and writer Jean Giraud, or known better to most as Moebius! Moebius worked in the Franco-Belgian bandes dessinées, or also known as the BD tradition. His style lends perfectly to dystopian visions coupled with sci/fi and fantasy environments and elements. He has also created stunning concept art for many classic films, like Willow, The Fifth Element, Alien, and The Abyss. In addition to these areas of contribution, Moebius has also lent his name to the comic world featuring some of our most beloved Marvel characters and GMA now have the pleasure of releasing their first two posters to you this week!

First up, The Amazing Spider-Man #800 Variant Edition and one of GMA's favorites, Wolverine Returns #2! Both show our heroes mixed in with elements that scream classic style Moebius...and for that, we love these! Both Posters are 16" x 24" Giclees printed on acid-free paper with archival inks!

The Marvel Art of Moebius Goes On Sale Thursday, July 1st at 1PM EDT in the Grey Matter Art Shop!

Jim TAZ Evans 311 25th Anniversary 1996 Tour Poster Release

No comments:

Back in 1996, Jim “TAZ” Evans met with members of 311 to craft a tour poster. The poster featured an alien attack, explosions, spaceships, and chaos imagery, totally fitting for the band at the time. The 311 1996 tour poster became one of the most popular TAZ posters ever, and one of the most difficult to obtain. 311 has now commissioned TAZ to do two variants of the original design, each with a foil edition. TAZ will be releasing his signed and numbered edition through Sugar Press. Fans of 311 that got the other unsigned colorway from the band can make the package complete, the original pencil sketch for the 1996 poster is printed on the back, with a little hand-written story of the genesis of the concept.

311 25th Anniversary Tour Poster / 1996 Tour redux

When I started reading the email from Vertebrae33 about his new poster my first thought was whats a Cloudkicker.

So wiki delivered the info

Cloudkicker is a post-rock / post-metal musical project based in Columbus, Ohio, created by guitarist Ben Sharp. Sharp, a commercial airline pilot, doesn't pursue Cloudkicker as a full-time project; he releases his music as "pay what you want" under the Creative Commons license through Bandcamp.

Love play on words with the band name and Ben being a pilot.

  Poster is 18x24 6-color silkscreen poster edition of 100. Signed/Numbered by Vertebrae33.

The Doors LA Woman Print by Steve Thomas

No comments:

For the band's sixth album L.A. Woman, The Doors continued the trajectory of Morrison Hotel return to blues. On L.A. Woman, Jim Morrison’s vocals were raw and loose, Ray Manzarek’s varied organ lines were masterful, John Densmore was powerfully tight and Robbie Krieger was sharp and biting. If anyone felt the Doors had lost a step dealing with Morrison’s obscenity bust in Miami and subsequent tour cancellations, this was a strong opening rebuttal.

The album was fresh and free-flowing, and critics unanimously praised L.A. Woman. Rolling Stone’s Robert Meltzer wrote, “You can kick me in the ass for saying this (I don’t mind), this is the Doors greatest album and including their first, the best album so far this year. A landmark worthy of dancing in the streets.” The album went to number five in the charts and the first single, the Krieger-penned “Love Her Madly”, reached number seven. The album also included L.A. Woman, and arguably the Doors' most well known track Riders On the Storm (which was also the last time the four Doors recorded together).

Collectionzz's inspiration for the L.A. Woman 50th Anniversary print was from Doors co-founder and keyboardist Ray Manzarek's own description of the classic album:
"[L.A. Woman] represents to me a drive across the great American Southwest. Driving on the freeways and highways through the desert - Arizona or New Mexico - or driving up the coast of California on Highway 1, from L.A. to San Francisco. It's alive, it's free, it's young and it's wild."

The illustration was designed by Steve Thomas, whose style is a mix of vintage poster, travel and product art from the early 20th century. Collectionzz hope it transports you from wherever you may be to Highway 1 on the Californian coast, with the sun shining, the music of the Doors in your ears and the wind on your face blowing your cares away.

On sale now at Iconic by Collectionzz.

Jimi Hendrix Richey Beckett Monterey Pop Print Release

No comments:

Jimi Hendrix would make his US debut with the Experience at The Monterey International Pop Festival on June 18, 1967, and he set the standard for what it meant to look -- and sound -- like a rock star. Donning a ruffled shirt, velour vest and bright red pants, with a scarf around his forehead, Hendrix commanded attention as he stepped on stage with the Fender Stratocaster that he would later douse in lighter fluid and set ablaze in one most iconic performances (and imaged) in rock history.

Coming on after 40 minutes of the groovy sounds of the Grateful Dead, the Jimi Hendrix Experience had maximum impact as they blasted into their high-octane take on Howlin’ Wolf’s Killing Floor followed by Foxy Lady, the latter introduced with a self-assured: “Dig this.”

Their first big American gig might have been belated, but as a band they were more than ready after honing their set on the European psychedelic scene. The threesome meshed superbly on what is acknowledged as one of the best festival sound systems ever.

Ultimately, the Monterey Pop Festival belonged to Hendrix. He arrived as a relative unknown in the States and left the personification of inclusivity and adventure during the Summer of Love. His guitar-burning showmanship became as iconic as the man himself, and it was the perfect subject matter for an official print. Richey Beckett took a very unique approach in creating this amazing art by using many layers of colored ink washes, appearing as wild and free as Jimi's playing:

"My idea for this piece was to imagine someone who had been in the front row at Monterey describing to me the energy and the feeling of what they witnessed, how they remember it. Like recalling a dream. Hendrix as this otherworldly being—explosive, ethereal, on fire." - Richey Beckett

Release date: Thursday, June 10 at 12 pm PDT via shop.pangeaseed.org

Artist Statement:

"Coming from a farm and ranch background in the desert of New Mexico, I quickly learned to value water. I had the privilege to see the Ocean for the first time when I was about 23, and since then my appreciation of natural resources significantly increased. Being a respectful steward to the Earth and understanding that its beauty relies on our upkeep and stewardship is critical.

When I migrated to LA and found myself closer to the oceans, I also found myself realizing how much a populated area can affect the ocean’s delicate ecosystem. Being an artist has allowed me to travel the world and see the bodies of water that cover it. It’s heartbreaking to see how some of our oceans aren’t treated with the same care as others. PangeaSeed Foundation has done an amazing job of connecting and educating thousands of people by joining facts about our ocean’s needs with artistic expression to spread awareness.

The issue of maintaining the oceans is important to me, so I was thrilled to team up and share my print of “The Octopus.” Octopuses are highly intelligent animals, known for their ability to adapt in their environment. Many have been known to use resources available to them, such as coconut shells to build little houses for themselves. When needing to take quick cover or blend in, octopuses can camouflage themselves. These two facts alone drive home that these amazing animals have taught themselves how to survive in their ecosystems as they are. Therefore, we need to help protect it. After all, most of these guys have three hearts. The least we could do is use our one.” - Drew Merritt

Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars by Matt Ryan Tobin Release

No comments:

In Ziggy Stardust, David Bowie created a persona that not only served as the main character of his best album, but also summed up his place in rock history. He was positively flashy and literally out of this world. So when he and his band the Spiders from Mars– which included Mick Ronson on guitar – took Ziggy Stardust on the road it was showmanship at its grandest. Then, it was suddenly over. On July 3, 1973 he announced to a stunned crowd in London it would be "the last show that we'll ever do," ending the era of Bowie's alter-ego that changed music forever and sent his career into orbit.

This career and music defining moment on July 3, 1973 is precisely what Iconic by Collectionzz is about, and they couldn't have asked for a better representation of this than what artist Matt Ryan Tobin illustrated! There are three different editions of this art, each is a beautiful seven color screenprint depicting Ziggy in his flowing Kansai Yamamoto kimono revealing a galaxy of stars through its opening.

With problems like warming seas, pollution, changing ocean chemistry and biodiversity loss caused by human activities, this marine paradise faces death and destruction in an unprecedented rate. The disappearance of coral reefs could lead into a domino effect of mass destruction in a global scale.

This piece aims to showcase how important coral reefs, marine ecosystems and the oceans are for the planet’s existence. With awareness and conscious effort, we can all do our part to help save our coral reefs from extinction, protect species that rely on them including us humans and nurture our oceans to provide a better future for this planet we call home." - Kerby Rosanes
