The first Inside the Rock Poster Frame EXCLUSIVE Print Release. When I first saw the paintings these prints are based on by James Flames they blew me away. So I told James I wanted him to make silk screened prints of them. James has been busting his you know what on them for the past month.

Now I'll let James tell you about them :

-- The original paintings for these prints were done for a group show at In the Parlor Gallery in Los Angeles this past March. The show was called Anatomically Correct and was to serve as the loose theme for the artwork. The first image to pop into my head, as soon as the show was offered to me, was the image for "Awakening." It was originally conceived as a more morbid and masculine scene, but as I continued to sketch it and got to know the character and the mood, it became clear to me that this was really more of a gentle, yet triumphant blossoming. And once it was finished, and I had the completion of the three-step journey, I needed to figure out how the other images would take us there.

So the next concept was "Activation," Which would serve as the opening scene. This concept was actually a very old idea of mine that my brother reminded me of one night while I was fussing over other ideas that weren't working. I knew that I wanted one of the three pieces to be in my "black & white" style, and so I had my candidate. The skeleton's tattoo is a variation on my brother's tattoo, in honor of him encouraging this idea. And the Yellow dots were a last minute addition, signifying the beginning of a new life - indeed an "Activation."

That yellow color would become the element that ties the three pieces together, leading to the erotic butterfly of "Arousal" becoming the centerpiece. The character from the previous piece has now evolved from it's "Activation" and initiation, to become a sexual being - dripping with desire, and soon to become reborn one last time as the fully realized life in "Awakening."

The three new screen prints were done completely by hand. The artwork comes directly from the scans of the original paintings, so they are very faithful to the originals. And while the colors used in the screen prints are similar to the colors of the originals, I did make some adjustments to increase their brightness and saturation, resulting in extremely vibrant coloring for the prints. And to reduce the common risk of scuffing, I used a mixture of high-quality black inks for the prints, keeping all the blacks deep, yet scuff-free.
