Artist statement:
"This piece was created to honor the importance of corals and their essential role in providing balance, protection, and nourishment for a vast array of marine life and immeasurable beauty for us all. The reefs are in danger and have been severely damaged by increased pollution, climate change, and rising ocean temperatures. These things cause coral bleaching, which can put extreme stress on coral growth and reproduction, and damage the coral structures.

These beautiful alien-looking creatures play such an important role in our ecosystems, and they can still be saved with our help. I presented them swaying in rhythm and coexisting together in harmony and balance, full of colorful detail and fragility. By using holographic and gold leaf papers, I wanted to capture the shimmering of light reflecting upon them underwater." - Yellena James
