"This is the piece named “Tiger Gate”, in Japanese it’s called TORANOMON. I wonder if it would sound more familiar to you if you’ve ever visit Tokyo?

I would say the highlight of this piece is that these Tiger statues turn in to real tigers. Also the girl’s long toothpick was inspired from the ‘70’s Japanese samurai drama Kogarashi Monjiro". - Yumiko Kayukawa

Yumiko Kayukawa White Dragon Print Release

Japanese artist Yumiko Kayukawa is back at 1xRUN on Wednesday with stunning new print titled White Dragon.

"This piece was presented for a show called “White Dragon” in 2012. It was the first show I did after the Tohoku earthquake that hit Japan in 2011. I created pieces with my positive message for the tragedy and the White Dragon was the title piece.

The rising dragon is a symbol of uprising energy and good luck. Also, white dragons are considered a god of nature or water. Japan is a country of islands that are surrounded by water. We live with water and water creatures and they have been damaged by the tsunami and earthquake. This piece is my wish for them to rise back up and bring back the healthy nature of my home country again." - Yumiko Kayukawa

Yumiko Kayukawa Appetite Print Release

Yumiko Kayukawa returns to 1xRUN on Wednesday with a new print titled Appetite plus 5 original paintings will be on sale as well.

Yumiko Kayukawa grew up in the small town of Naie in Hokkaido, Japan. In these pristine, natural surroundings, she found her love of animals and nature which later became an important theme of her work. As she grew up, Yumiko drew inspirations from American pop culture such as Rock & Roll, film and fashion. These influences are fused with modern and traditional Japanese motifs to create her unique style.

"This piece was presented for a show “Rock You In a Tatami Room” in 2011. It wasn’t a theme show, so I created pieces with just represented what I was feeling at the time.

As I love animals and wildlife, how they kill to survive is a passionate subject for me. Even a beautiful crane fights to live. It’s beautiful to me, just like they are dancing." - Yumiko Kayukawa

Yumiko Kayukawa New Limited Edition Print Country of Cherry Blossom

von Scaramouche Gallery is honored to be collaborating with the amazing artist Yumiko Kayukawa on the release of her new limited edition print. Country of Cherry Blossom is an evocative and delightful work inspired by Yumiko’s home country, Japan. Her imaginative and unique creative universe is often populated by wild animals and female characters interacting in unusual and colorful settings. The quality of her paintings have brought her invitations to do solo shows at high profile galleries such as The Shooting Gallery in San Francisco, Joshua Liner Gallery in New York City and La Luz de Jesus Gallery in Los Angeles.
