Tom Whalen recently was commissioned to create the poster for a sci-fi convention in Florida hosted by Vulcan Events.
AWAY MISSION: ORLANDO featured celebrity appearances by Patrick Stewart, Jewel Staite, and David Warner as well as a slew of other well known sci-fi actors and authors.
The show poster features “The Many Faces of Patrick Stewart”. “We all know Sir Patrick as Jean-Luc Picard from Star Trek: The Next Generation and as Professor Charles Xavier from X-men but we also wanted to represent a few of his other iconic characters. These include Captain Ahab from Moby Dick, Ebenezer Scrooge from A Christmas Carol, Macbeth, and even Gurney Halleck from the sci-fi cult classic Dune.” They chose to celebrate the "Many Faces of Patrick Stewart" by illustrating the diverse roles he has undertaken over the course of his career with a hybrid Jean-Luc Picard/Professor X at the center of the composition.
These were made available exclusively to attendees of the event but the unsold posters are now available on their website at www.vulcanevents.com/orlando.
These are numbered and signed by Tom Whalen and sell for $50. The first 10 in the edition have also been signed by Patrick Stewart himself. These are also available for $195 from their site.
Mr. Stewart was so impressed with these that he personally purchased 12, one for his personal collection and the rest to give as gifts or for auctions to benefit his many charities.
