The Who James Eads Poster Release

No comments:

The Who released their highly acclaimed rock opera Tommy in May of 1969 that was supported by a massive tour throughout North America and Europe. The Tommy Tour came to its conclusion 50 years ago, December 18, 1970, at The Roundhouse in London (fun fact: opening for the band that evening was a young musician named Elton John). It was a night of celebration for the band, who were in extra good spirits that evening.

To commemorate this historic show, James R. Eads created a beautiful print setting the scene of a wintery yet glowing city of London, the band's energy lighting the city through their music during the holiday season.

Rainbow Foil Edition- $150.00

The Doors New Orleans Poster By Luke Martin Release

No comments:

Iconic by Collectionzz is releasing official posters for The Doors by Luke Martin commemorating the 50th Anniversary of the band’s final concert with lead singer Jim Morrison.

The Doors played what turned out to be the band’s final concert with Morrison on December 12, 1970, at the fabled A Warehouse concert hall on Tchoupitoulas Street in New Orleans. While the performance itself went so poorly the band called off the tour the next day, the Warehouse show has passed into rock ‘n’ roll legend much like Morrison himself.

The Doors broke out of Los Angeles with 1967’s “Light My Fire,” and Morrison was the leather pants-wearing Lizard King, a charismatic counterculture sex symbol shaman who excited audiences. But by the time he arrived onstage at A Warehouse, “he had been living his life like a Roman candle burning at both ends for the last five years,” said David Dutkowski, The Doors’ official archivist.

The 20-song set opened with “Roadhouse Blues” and “Back Door Man.” At some point, Morrison stopped singing and sat down. “Multiple band members said it was like something left him at that moment,” says Dutkowski. “Ray Manzarek (who died in 2013) swore he looked up from his keyboard and saw Jim’s spirit leave his body. He swears the shamanistic energy, the soul of Jim Morrison, flowed out of his body and with it, the will to perform.”

During the final song, “The End,” Morrison lost it.

“I was standing on the side of the stage at the end,” recalled concert promotor Don Fox. “Jim started talking about life and death and what was going on in the world in 1970. All of a sudden, he took the mic stand and started smashing it and smashing it right into the stage floor. And then he walks off.” Fox went over to where Morrison had been standing “and there’s a hole in the stage. He drove the mic stand right through. He’s the only artist I’ve ever seen put a hole in the stage.”

Following the show the other band members had a meeting at which they agreed that the New Orleans show should be their live swan song, since Morrison's unpredictability made further touring impractical. Morrison participated in the recording sessions for L.A. Woman, then went to Paris in March while the rest of the band finished up the mixing sessions. Weeks later, on July 3, 1971, he turned up dead. He was 27.

Following The Doors show at A Warehouse, Fox repaired the damaged section of the stage. Upon learning of Morrison’s death, he carved “In Memory of Jim Morrison” into the plywood patch. “In a strange way, the Warehouse and Jim Morrison are linked together forever.”

Pantera Posters By Matt Ryan Tobin Release

No comments:

Reinventing the Steel was released on March 21, 2000, twenty years ago, and the music and the memory live on stronger than ever today. "Goddamn Electric” was Pantera's love song to heavy metal, and as such, it gives a much deserved salute to the band's own favorite groups Black Sabbath and Slayer. "Phil was calling out all these bands that stuck true to their guns," Dimebag explained to Guitar World in 2000. When Phil Anselmo belts out the words “your trust is in whisky, weed, and Black Sabbath” in “Goddamn Electric,” it hits hard every time. Collectionzz is commemorating this song and album with amazing prints by Matt Ryan Tobin.
"This song explodes. The moment I first heard it, so did my head. I interpret this song being about finding salvation in music and happiness in the little things. At the end of the day, regardless what the world throws at you - you always have whiskey, weed…and Pantera." - Matt Ryan Tobin

Featuring original artwork by supporting ARTivist Kilian Eng (Sweden), this limited art print edition highlights the importance of protecting vulnerable marine bio-diversities such as coral reef ecosystems and the pressing impact of coastal development.

Artist: Kilian Eng
Title: "A Dream of the Reef"

Edition Size: Regular edition of 75 numbered prints | Variant edition of 25 numbered prints

Dimensions: 18x24 inches
Regular edition printed full-bleed with hand-deckle edges on Canson Aquarelle 310gsm archival paper | Variant edition printed on Slickrock Metallic Pearl 260gsm

Release date: Thursday, December 3 at 12 pm PST via shop.pangeaseed.org

Artist statement:
"Coral reefs have many important functions. For example, they provide shelter for a huge variety of underwater organisms. Many species of fish live there in their early life before swimming out to the open sea. It is a great example of the natural beauty and magic of our oceans. A beauty that is losing its lifeforce and turning into a colorless underwater wasteland devoid of all life due to human impact.

My starting point for this project was the impact of coastal development and the negative and deadly effects it has on the ecosystems close to the shore. 40% of the world's population lives close to the coast, something that causes numerous threats to corals through the ever growing development of human infrastructure and the threat from global warming." - Kilian Eng

Elton John Tour Poster By Maxx242

No comments:

"Any good costume makes you feel ready to perform. I arrive at a venue, take a nap, then wake up and pick my outfit. Then I put it on. And that’s the moment when I become Elton John.”

In the Fall of 1974, Elton John and his band embarked on their biggest tour to date, comprising 45 concerts in 31 North American cities over a period of just 70 days. Elton's popularity was staggering at the time; he was in the midst of a flurry of #1 albums and hit singles. Tickets were nearly impossible to get, and the people lucky enough to obtain them often had to sleep out overnight at the venue's box office window for days.

While Elton was the biggest musical act of the ’70s, he was just as known for his extravagant outfits. His onstage attire stemmed from a wide variety of sources, including costume designer extraordinaire Bob Mackie. Elton's costume selections have always gone beyond pageantry, acting as expressions of his inner self. Collectionzz wanted to create a print from this era that combined the electricity of Elton's live performances and his signature costumes; and Maxx242 take the reigns to create this amazing 6 color screenprint that did just that! According to Elton's resident historian, this extravagantly feathered costume was worn at a variety of shows during the 1974 tour of North America, and was worn (or a very similar costume) on the Muppet Show which was taped in 1977, and was first broadcasted in 1978.

Size: 18" x 24"
Edition Size: 200 Main Edition / 100 Rainbow Foil Edition Hand Numbered
French Paper White (Main Edition) / Holographic Rainbow Foil (Variant)
6 Color Screenprint
Holographic sticker on back of print for authenticity

"It’s not a secret. Evidence of global warming is all around us. Living near the ocean, I see first hand the erosion of our bluffs, trash on our shores, and frequent coastal flooding during high tide. It pains me to witness the careless neglect many have for our most precious resources. I created this work to help bring awareness and change to our way of life, because our current path is unsustainable. Our ocean levels are rising and sooner than later, our shores will begin to look very different. Let’s give future generations an even better, healthier planet so they can enjoy the same experiences we do." - Ricky Watts

Whales, and other sea creatures, are greatly threatened by plastic pollution, not only by ingesting pieces of trash, but also due to the build-up of toxic chemicals from plastic, litter, and oil spills in their systems, which seriously affects their health and fertility." - Sonny

The entrance to the old neighborhood pool is almost completely obscured now by neglected overgrown bushes and rampant ivy. People pass by it unknowingly every day, and the more distracted life becomes the more the park fades into the background blur. Now a remnant of a lost time, the space has become somewhat of a refuge for those who are lost. -NM

Malleus New Store & Poster Release

No comments:

Malleus are so delighted, happy and proud to announce their new website and store.
It was a very long job that led them to catalog almost all of their works, focusing on poster art and making them realize how big the production of these 17 years of silkscreening has been. You are all invited to visit our new website, completely restyled and updated!

To thank all of You, for the constant support even during this dark period we're all going through, they want to give You a 10% discount on everything. It'll last until November 15th and it'll be valid for Your first order of posters at the new store. You can use this code yr55dbxe at the checkout.

Also pop into the new store, where You will find new sections and things, including a link to their music productions as Supernatural Cat and the new "Apparel" section, born from our joint ventures with their polish friends of 8merch. They have also launched a blog section in which they will try to show their work and share their creations with You!

This is the brand new poster they printed for their friends Jerry Joseph and the Jackmormons for their 2 shows with Daniel Hutchens at Yokayo Ranch Ukiah, CA,USA.
Working on a gig poster in this period, when live music all over the Planet has almost stopped, has been such a pleasant thing. Malleus worked on a request to include a blond and a brunette woman and, being the show is in Ukiah California, above SF in the woods, land of wine, weed, and fire, they tried to put a few of these elements in the design. The poster is a 4 colors handmade silk screened print, limited edition of 103 copies.

Malleus also worked on an Art print version called “Ambrosia”, that in the Ancient Greek mythology was the drink of the Gods. This is a 6 colors handmade silkscreen print in a limited edition of 60 pieces. They used a glitter color to highlight the ambrosia in the glasses and the flames coming out of the eyes of the two women / goddess.
Both prints are on cream heavy paper.

The NEW Malleus Store HERE will be online and ready at around 6:13AM EST Monday November 9.

Notorious B.I.G. Print by Luke Martin Release

No comments:

On January 15, 2020, The Notorious B.I.G. scored a significant win for his legacy after the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame announced his induction for the Class of 2020. Biggie's mom, Voletta Wallace took to Instagram after his submission was confirmed, expressing her thanks and excitement that her late son will finally be honored.
“Brooklyn we did it!!! This is so long overdue. Thank you to everyone that helped make this happen for Christopher. Love you all.”

In a phone interview with Billboard Magazine, Wallace said "As a mother, I'm extremely proud of his accomplishments. You know, I still see such a young man at a young age, and sadly, he's not here to witness all this. But it's an astute honor, and as a mother, I'm just elated for that."

"Many of [his songs] speak truth," she said. "It might be gritty, and maybe the language is so out there, but he was honest. There was nothing fake about what he was doing. I think for such a young man to resonate such honesty in his lyrics is awesome."

Biggie's transcendent career rocketed in the '90s with the release of his 1994 debut album Ready to Die. The lyricist chiseled his way onto the rap scene with songs such as "Big Poppa," "Juicy" and "One More Chance," which peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100. His meteoric career came to a screeching halt when he was shot and killed in 1997. Following his demise, 16 days later, Biggie's sophomore album, Life After Death, was released. The double-album soared to No. 1 on the Billboard 200.

Luke Martin took on the assignment from Collectionzz to create an illustration that honors Biggie Smalls' legacy, and this historic achievement that is so special to his fans and family:

"How do you create a poster for one of the greatest - if not THE greatest - rappers of all time? I was trying to answer this question when I started this project, and I’m still trying to answer this question even as it’s done. Christopher Wallace was so larger than life, I quickly learned that it would be impossible to capture his presence and force in one singular image. but... I was still gonna try anyways.

For this piece, my main intent was to capture that energy and power that Biggie encapsulated through his music - and then sent out into the rest of the world. I wanted the focus to be on Brooklyn - BIGGIE’S BROOKLYN. the city molded him just as much as he molded it, I feel that the two are so synonymous to each other. and if you’ve heard his music then you know - his love for Brooklyn was evident in every single line he wrote." - Luke Martin

"The Witching Hour" is a black light reactive / glow in the dark screen print designed by Maxx242.

Poster measures 18" x 24" and is a 2 color screen print featuring black light reactive / glow in the dark inks. Posters are signed and numbered in an edition of 100 by artist Maxx242.

Here's some info and inspiration on the print from Maxx242...

The Witching Hour

October 31st, It’s 3am and he gazes at the moon. The witching hour they say. The powers, the wizards, the witches, and the kittens come out and play. He frolics through the pumpkin patch, as free as the bats soaring through the sky. There she is watching over him, there she is, his witch, his moon, his eye. She is his reason, she is his life, she is his power deep inside. An eternal connection, bonded in the night, bonded in the flame, in the blinding light. It’s the witching hour they say, in the full moon, it’s her time to take flight. For she is his heart, his dream, the ink on the pages at that. For this is the tale of the witch and Onyx the midnight cat...

This piece was inspired by my baby panther Onyx, my black cat. I saw him sitting there one night and wondered, "What’s in his feisty little mind?" What has he seen, why does he sit so deep in thought? There I found The Witching Hour. Funny, it was probably close to 3am too lol - Maxx242

Wildner Lima Motley Crue New York Poster

No comments:

Back by very popular demand Collectionzz is releasing two new posters for the World's Most Notorious Rock Band, Mötley Crüe! This time around, they're commemorating the band's debut in New York City on Halloween 1983.

On October 31, 1983, the band was riding high on the release of their breakthrough commercial success Shout At The Devil, and about to make their New York City debut at one of the city's hottest and newest music venues, The Limelight. For those not familiar, the club was a deconsecrated Gothic Revival church with ornate stained glass windows on the corner of Sixth Avenue and 20th Street in Chelsea. That's right, Mötley Crüe made their New York City debut... in a former church... on Halloween!

Collectionzz knew one poster design wasn't enough for such an epic gig, so they asked artist Wildner Lima to create two designs. The Main Edition is all about Shout At The Devil, with a demonic winged skull and pentagram front and center surrounded by the band clad in their black leather. The Foil Variant is our homage to the City of New York, featuring the iconic Empire State Building which glistens on a mirror foil paper.

On that night, Mötley Crüe found themselves in the City that never sleeps, kings of the hill, top of the heap! Grab one of the posters while supplies last!
