Sara Deck Halloween Movie Poster Release From Grey Matter Art

No comments:

Grey Matter Art, under license from Compass International Pictures, INC. is very pleased to reveal their newest upcoming release for the 1978 John Carpenter directed horror classic, "Halloween" by Sara Deck. This poster depicts the haunting feeling Jamie Lee Curtis' character, Laurie Strode experiences throughout the film, like someone is lurking around every corner, and Sara really nails this emotion. Halloween has become one of the most classic, tension-filled slasher films ever made. With John Carpenter's directing, and Dean Cundy's cinematography, this film is terrifying visually as it is musically, with the addition of that iconic score making Halloween a movie that holds up to this day as one of the all-time best!

N C Winters 311 Red Rocks Prints Release

No comments:

N.C. Winter newest gig poster is for 311’s 4/20 Eve celebration gig at the legendary Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Colorado. When he was coming up with the design, he knew he wanted to highlight the iconic Red Rocks venue as one of the elements for the poster.

According to N.C." I’m really happy with how this one turned out, and tried to push the envelope in terms of the amount of detail I could fit in. It was a ton of work, but again, I’m very pleased with the result. Printing by the fantastic team at Lady Lazarus helped really make this print sing, and I’m grateful to Isaac and Aleisha as well as the other staff at their shop. Thanks guys, for an amazing print job!

He will have two artist variant colorways available: cool and warm. The prints are six color screenprints on 100# Cougar natural stock measuring 18 x 24 inches. Both variants also come in limited quantities on a holographic rainbow foil. Each print is hand signed and numbered.

Justin Santora Spots & Growth Print Sets

No comments:

Justin Santora has a couple of 3 print sets he has released and they are pretty cool.

Justin describes the Spots set of prints:
This is something I have wanted to release for a while. I know I risk looking self indulgent with niche subject matter like this, but I've never really shied about from my skateboarding and punk rock roots. I suppose something like this was inevitable. If you follow me on instagram, you may recall a few mini prints I posted late last spring.
This is the first installment in what I hope will be a series of print sets depicting various skate spots and/or objects. Each of these prints are 7x7", five color screenprints on Cougar white coverweight paper. Each print is signed and all three come packed in a screenprinted, hand-numbered portfolio cover and resealable clear bag.
Growth is a new print set which consists of three one-color screenprints: two are 6x9", and one is 9x12".

From Justin:
I’ve always kind of struggled with big life changes. I think a lot of people do. It seems like nearly everyone i know is going through some kind of massive shift in life lately. I spent the last eight years running my little operation out a building in Chicago, five of which were with my dear friends, Dan and Jes from Landland.

The smaller two prints are obviously related to skateboarding, a cornerstone of my youth and an admitted current form of therapy. The concrete ledge print is based on one of the most famous skate spots in all of San Francisco, The Hubba Hideout. These ledges were all over the pages of nearly every skate magazine in the 90’s, truly a permanent fixture in the history of skateboarding. It is now long gone.

The other smaller print is a combination of two Inktober drawings, and i suppose it could be considered the titular piece in the set. “With one hand time moves us forward; with the other it holds us back.”
Both are on sale now at  http://justinsantora.storenvy.com/

Zeb Love Childish Gambino Coachella Print Relase

No comments:

Zeb Love was incredibly excited to do weekend two of Childish Gambino's performance at Coachella. He's been missing the way he used to do posters back in 2010. So Zeb made a stencil, bought 11 cans of spraypaint, painted the entire edition, then screenprinted 5 colors overtop of the paint. Resulting in 175 one of a kind gigposters that measure 18 x 24 inches. This is the first time he ever tried this method on this scale...was a SO much extra work, but he couldn't be happier with the end result. No two are perfectly alike. Zeb also did a very small run of a variant without spraypaint, and with a whole different screen.

Both posters will be on sale Wednesday April 24, 2019 : NOON EDT.

Joey Feldman Ptolemy Gallery Show Bottleneck

No comments:

Life is about creation and destruction. The juxtaposition of discovery and revelation is critical to one’s success and awareness of self. It is with this in mind that LA based artist Joey Feldman invades NYC and Bottleneck Gallery to present for our viewing pleasure his upcoming show, Ptolemy.

Feldman’s eclectic style and emotional renderings demonstrate an artist’s journey of self-discovery in a truly unique presentation of his work. Much like Claudius Ptolemy presented his monumental arrangement of 48 Constellations with the Earth being at the center of his universe, Feldman presents us with 48 original works with his life at the focus. The 48 panels in full glory represent his journey; his origins and exploration of existence. Light to darkness, and for better or worse Joey shows us an incredibly personal and autobiographical arrangement of pieces.

Attendees should prepare themselves for a full range of emotional and intellectual stimulation. If you’ve ever wondered what it is like to be a fly on the wall in the world of Joey Feldman; this is the show for you. In addition to the 48 panels, there will be show specific prints and variants available to purchase. Each panel was photographed and digitally sewn together to make two sets of gorgeous prints.

Joey will be in attendance for folks to pick his brains and see what makes him tick. Plus, he will be around to doodle prints! The exhibition opens Friday, April 26th from 7P - 9P eastern. Admission and drinks are FREE.

Gallery is located at 60 Broadway, Brooklyn, NY 11249

Matt Leunig Widespread Panic & Sweetwater 420 Fest Posters Release

No comments:

Another 420 Fest is in the books. Matt Leunig was lucky again to be asked to do the artwork for the Sweetwater 420 Fest, which included pins, posters, shirts and all kinds of merch. Its such a great Festival in the heart of Atlanta. The lineup is always great and there is so much imagery attached to it to play with. Along with the official 420 show print Matt also did a gigposter for Widespread Panic for the weekend.

The WSP poster had a 500 print run and was skillfully printed by the badass folks at The Half & Half. He will have a Artist Edition (signed/AP) run of 50 available Along with the regular run he will have a small run of foil variants available. A rainbow foil (run of 14) & a lava foil variant (run of 17).

Widespread Panic headlined this years Sweetwater 420 Fest in Atlanta this past weekend and gave Matt the nod to work up a poster for the weekend. It just so happened he also created a print for the whole Festival and much like with last years 420 headliner String Cheese.

Back in December. when working on Panic’s New Years shows in Atlanta, they chatted about some how bringing back their iconic “Note Eater” character back into the mix. The original idea was to try and work it into the New Years Eve Countdown but due to timing they ended up scrapping it. The whole thing went through a couple different iterations and poses but ultimately they chose the current layout so that Matt could work in some more Atlanta references

The final poster is a 6-color screenprint (18″ x 24″), and he will have an Artist Edition (signed/AP) run of 65 available

Along with the regular run, to celebrate the Return of the Note Eater, Matt also will have available a limited run of different foil variant with some paper he's never tried before.

“Rainbow foil” variant… run of 9
“Galaxy foil” variant… run of 7
“Diskettes foil” variant… run of 8
“Jazzy foil” variant… run of 6
“Oil Slick foil” variant… run of 8

All the posters will be on sale April 24th @11am (EST). at http://scrapedknee.com/ in his store.

James Flames Dave Matthews & Tim Reynolds Charleston Poster Release

No comments:

Here is James Flames latest poster for Dave Matthews & Tim Reynolds, from their concert this past Saturday (4/20) in Charleston, South Carolina.

According to James, he visits Charleston quite often, and thought it'd be fun to play with the chill coastal vibes of that city. Here’s the little story behind this piece:
Springtime is here, and it seems like the fields of newly bloomed flowers are an endless sight for our traveling musicians. They've brought along their guitars and their best bud pup, and the three of them set out to find the coast.

They had heard legends about the magic keys – it seemed almost unbelievable to them, but then there they were: two giant, golden keys just laying there in the flowers! They picked these keys up and carried them along, keeping their eyes peeled for the natural companion to the keys: a keyhole.

It didn’t take long for them to find it, and so they used one of the keys, curious to see what happens next.

And then it happened. The blue sky turned into waves, flowing and crashing onto themselves like a giant ocean in the sky. But the center of those waves began to open into a giant portal. They stood in absolute awe as the portal presented to them just what they were looking for all along, the beautiful coast. They walked through the portal to the beach, continuing their adventure. Who knows what wonders await!
Poster is 18" x 24" Screen Print
Artist's Edition of 75, Signed & Numbered

These limited edition posters will be available Tuesday, April 23 at 2pm Eastern at www.jamesflames.com

Ravi Zupa Garuda Poster

No comments:

Ravi Zupa has released the second of five posters in the monthly series titled Marvelous Adventures. All characters for the series are pulled from Hindu mythology (Durga, Hanuman, Rama, Garuda, Kali) and feature some of the oldest superheroes on Earth.

Garuda is the courageous, loyal companion and mount to Vishnu in Hinduism. He symbolizes courage and strength and commitment.

Garuda is a hugely popular character throughout Asia, particularly the south east. His significance varies depending on the region. Much like Pegasus, who in Greek mythology refers to one specific winged horse but has come to refer to the whole race of magical beings, Garuda is the name of one specific winged bird in Hinduism. But, when the character crosses over into Buddhism, Garudas refer to a type of golden winged magical birds.

Many of the prints in the Marvelous Adventures series refer to specific Hindu stories. This piece does not. Ravi made Garuda into an American bald eagle and forced him to team up with his mortal enemies. It seems to Ravi that a little bit less conflict and a little bit more cooperation in our culture is in order.

Chris Garofalo Reefer Madness Variant Poster Release

No comments:

Grey Matter Art is very pleased to announce a new limited edition screen print for the classic 1936 propaganda film, "Reefer Madness" by artist, Chris Garofalo. GMA are excited to re-release this as a variant edition of Chris's original 2015 poster, but this time in a color scheme of dark olive and faded vintage green inks!

"Reefer Madness" by Chris Garofalo
24" x 18" Hand Numbered & Signed Screen Print
Variant Edition of 40/$35.00

Here is what Chris had to say about "Reefer Madness":
When I was approached with this subject, I immediately knew that I wanted it to have a vintage, "poisonous, yet strangely appealing" feel to it. The original poster has such a loud "scare you straight" vibe, that I decided on the "seductive danger" route. It was certainly a lot of fun merging the two worlds of temptation and restriction on one print, and it was as challenging as it was rewarding.
"Reefer Madness" will be released tomorrow, Saturday, April 20th at 1PM (est) at greymatterart.com.

Black Dragon Press No Exit & Dogtooth Posters Release

No comments:

Black Dragon Press are delighted to release brand new work from two very exciting young artists this week. They have both tackled two tough briefs with great skill and a deep understanding of the source materials and BDP couldn't wait to share their work with you.

'No Exit' is an infamous 1944 existentialist French play by Jean-Paul Sartre. The play begins with three characters who find themselves waiting in a mysterious room. It is a depiction of the afterlife in which three deceased characters are punished by being locked into a room together for eternity, giving origin to Sartre's famous quote that "Hell is other people". If that plot seems familiar you've probably been watching Mike Schur's 'The Good Life' (Netflix), a TV series inspired by Sartre's classic masterpiece.

LA-based illustrator and scratchboard fiend Evan Cagle took the brief on and has produced a striking image, displaying both delicate finesse in his rendering of the decor and a bold, chaotic approach to the dress on the main mysterious figure in his illustration:

'No Exit' comes in two versions. A regular edition and a signed art print both are 24 x 18 inches on Colorplan Mist paper.

'Dogtooth' is the film that brought Yorgos Lanthimos (The Lobster, The Favourite) to BDP's attention back in 2009. A film which in some ways shares some of the same themes as 'No Exit', only in a completely different way. It tells the story of a Greek couple who keep their three adolescent offspring confined inside their fenced suburban property, not by force, but by the use of myth-building and lore. We won't say any more because spoilers but if you haven't watched it we very strongly recommend you do so. It's just brilliant. And a bit harrowing. And very funny. And totally original. But mainly just brilliant.

Tasked with bringing Dogtooth to life is another BDP newcomer, Berlin-based Isabel Seliger. Her work is subtle, intelligent, and quietly confident so we decided we could test her with probably the toughest brief we've sent out. Dogtooth is such weird little gem that it necessitated an intelligent approach, and Seliger delivers. Her poster is full of symbolism with a subtle play on confined spaces and is beautiful to look at to boot. We really love this one.

Both posters will go sale Thursday 18 April at 5pm UK (NOON EDT) time in the Black Dragon Press Shop.

Paper: Italian cold-press watercolor paper
Pricing: $85 plus shipping

Available: Thursday, April 11, 2019 at 12pm PDT via shop.pangeaseed.co

Artist statement:
When creating this piece I wanted to focus on the subject of the loss of biodiversity in ocean habitats, particularly coral reefs. I watched a speech by Sir David Attenborough recently that was making it’s rounds online. In this he explains that we are in the midst of our planet’s 6th mass extinction event of which human beings are the sole cause. Many species are dwindling in numbers and even dying out completely causing imbalances in many ecosystems. I wanted to create a sense of connectivity and co-dependency between all of the elements in this piece. If you were to take away one element then the composition would be off in just the same way as taking away one element completely in a real life sense would have huge repercussions for the rest of the ecosystem.

New Art Prints By Ernesto Yerena

Spiritual Memory Artists Statement:
This piece is inspired by the memory of our indigenous roots and African roots that lives inside of my spirit. Growing up as a Mexican American kid I always remember seeing the Aloe Vera plant all around me, at my grandma’s house, my tia’s house, and at my house. I always knew there was something special to me about this plant and when I got a little I found out why. Turns out that when I was a 1 or 2 years old my father had a wisdom tooth removed and soon after the wound got infected. The infection grew into what I hear was close to a ping pong sized abscess so my grandmother took him to specialty doctors in San Diego. The doctors in San Diego told my grandmother that this infection was so septic that if they went into remove it and for some reason the infection got into the blood stream that I would go up to his brain and kill him so they decided to not operate and turn him away. He was told he would only have a couple months to live. My grandmother was pretty devastated so she talked to her mother aka my Great Grandmother aka my Mama China who was Yaqui. My Mama China told my grandmother to cut up some Aloe Vera and heat it up on the comal and put it on gauze. After 3 days of my grandmother doing this the abscess exploded on its own and it the infection didn’t get into his bloodstream. Aloe Vera saved my pops life, that is why I honor this plant today. When I was creating the concept for this piece I was really inspired by the resilience of indigenous medicine and culture. It was very empowering to know that even after 500 years of colonization we still a lot of aspects of our ancestral and traditional ways that are still alive and thriving and Aloe Vera to me was a perfect example of this. PLOT TWIST! This whole time since I was little kid I thought Aloe Vero or Savila as my mother calls it was a MEXICAN plant and that it has been a part of indigenous medicinal traditions on this land for thousands of years but after a quick google search a visit to the Aloe Vera Wiki page I learned that Aloe Vera came from AFRICA, I was mind blown!!! Now this meant that the resiliency of the use of this plant was even stronger since it had its way all the way from Africa to these lands and under some very dark circumstances (i.e. Slavery). In this image, the eagles represent the sprits of our indigenous ancestors and the aloe very represents the spirits of our African ancestors. This image honors the Resilience of Memory and celebrates the fact that even if someone tries to break your spirit for 500 plus years your spirit will always remember where to find medicine. -Ernesto

Connect Below the Surface Artists Statement:
I created this piece as a reminder to folks that we must always plug into what recharges us, fuels us and most importantly heals us. Living here in US on Stolen Land there are daily reminders of the violent colonial history that our ancestors, Mother Earth, and our animal relatives have had to endure on this land for centuries. What adds insult to injury is that the process of colonization is still pretty much ongoing and it is clear when we see indigenous children in cages, new border walls being constructed, the glutinous prison industrial complex, heavy policing in neighborhoods of color, etc. The list can go on forever. When we sit with that truth it is daunting, overwhelming and paralyzing. It’s sad to see that in many ways it seems like we (the indigenous people of these lands & empathetic peoples of all colors) are losing this battle. America rewards the cruel and the greedy and it people like myself who are sensitive and gentle feel like we are losing ground. These are tactics that colonizers have always imposed upon our people in order to break our spirits and our moral that way they can exploit us and the land. In dark times like these I like to remind people that this pain and these hard times are mostly on the surface, it’s what we see most of but in fact if we plug in to the land or to our history and legacy here on this continent as indigenous people we have thousands of years of strength, love & support from our ancestors and Mother Earth. That’s why I urge folks to Connect Beyond the Surface. Whatever that means to you is fine. For some folks, it may mean to break the mundane routine of the daily life and go out for a jog for others it might mean to hang around family. For me it might mean to cook a meal with traditional ingredients one day or go to get a massage another day. Whatever self-care means to you is what this piece is all about. In this image, the Nopal / Cactus is YOU! And the Nopal’s roots are connecting to Mother Earth and is sustaining and healing itself with all that nurturing wisdom, history, love & support. The eagles as always in my work represent the spirits of our ancestors. We are more than 500 years of colonization. We are a resilient people that will be survive because we have lots of ancestral support to pull from. Long live our ancestors! Long live Mother Earth! And long live our Resilience & Strengh!-Ernesto
