Ricky Powell Beastie Boys The Charles Street Shuffle Print Release

1 comment:

Born and raised in New York City, Ricky Powell is a legendary photographer who specializes in the environmental portrait. On Thursday he has a dope new print release from 1xRUN featuring The Beastie Boys in The Charles Street Shuffle.

“This shot was from my first ‘official’ photo shoot with the Beastie Boys. We went out by the schoolyard on Charles Street and Greenwich Avenue. That was kind of a focal meeting place for everybody who grew up in the Village. We thought, whatever, we’ll shoot at the yard. Rick Rubin was there. Cey Adams was there. So we just did shots off the cuff.

At that point I was shooting pictures for about a year. I got transfigurationed from Joe Schmuck into The Rickster - Downtown Club Photographer. This was just as I was discovering what my whole steez was with photography. It’s this. It’s easy, breezy. Natural. Relaxed. I just see what I like and I push the button. I think my personality chemically worked with them. I had them laughing all the time. We made an image together that’s dope. That’s the way I like to look at it. That’s it. It was good times.” - Ricky Powell

You will have you choice of the getting the print on aluminum or canvas.

Jason Craig & Scotty Russell Black Coffee Poster

No comments:

I love hear about the creative process and how artists come up with ideas. This story from Jason Craig is one of the unique ones for sure.
"A few weeks ago I had the pleasure of speaking at Creative South, a graphic design conference in Columbus, Georgia. In my talk I mentioned that I only drink black coffee and that at the end of the year, I save about 8 hours my not putting cream or sugar into my cup each time I get a refill. Near the closing of the weekend I met a talented letterer named Scotty Russell of Perspective Collective. He showed me his notes from my talk the day before and I could see that he had been inspired. I suggested that we should collaborate on a print and he jumped at the opportunity. He began sending sketches from the airport and not long after he landed back in Iowa, he had begun a illustrated quote based on something that I said in my talk.

Once the art was complete I burned the screen and mixed up some special ink. I found some essence of coffee bean and some really strong instant coffee and mixed it up before adding it to the black and red mixture I had already made. Not only does the print look like coffee, it smells like it as well. I ran 50 on Madero Beach paper by French and they all came out fantastic." -Jason Craig

Collaboration between Jason Craig and Scotty Russell of Perspective Collective.
Inspired by a quote from Jason's Creative South talk, Origins of Expert.

They mixed real coffee into the ink to give it extra authenticity and a fresh brewed aroma.

Jimbob Isaac King Nothing Print Release

No comments:

King Nothing print by Jimbob Isaac  is the second print release from Rich’s collection at Minor Victory Inc, following last month’s release of Godmachine’s the Headless Saints Triptych. Jimbob is well known as an artist in his own-right, the art-architect for Temples Festival, and for guitar and vocals in Taint and now HARK.

‘What hope for a king with no kingdom to rule? ‘ from ‘Horned is the Hunter’ by the great English lyricist and writer Martin Walkyier was the start point for the concept, mixed in with Rich’s personal reflections on human aging from young and invincible Kings and Queen’s to sometimes living just with memories of past-greatness. Jimbob took on the challenge to bring to life the hopelessness, emptiness, and collapse of a falling King surrounded by the crumbling artifacts of his reign and talismans of protection of the dead and decay. Jimbob’s unique style of pointillism and inking gives the piece a fragmented and spectral feel. The King clearly has a Celtic look, a subtle nod by Jimbob to his Welsh roots.

Available for pre-order 1st May 2015 from Minor Victory

Original commissioned illustration by JIMBOB ISAAC. Pointillism and digital ink. High-quality giclee print with archival inks on Innova soft-textured natural white 315g fine-art quality paper, 23.3" x 16.5". Edition of 30, numbered with embedded artist signature.

Chris Saunders Lion Mandala Print Release Details

No comments:

Chris Saunders has another killer release from 1xRUN on Wednesday titled Lion Mandala.

"This piece was born from inspiration of a personal struggle I was experiencing with overcoming certain obstacles in my life surrounding addiction. Not just chemical addiction, but addictive thoughts and behaviors that didn't serve my highest good.

The lion archetype visited me in my dreams during this time of struggle with addiction. I dreamt I was a lion running with full force through a dense jungle. I had a thick rope in my mouth and as I ran through this jungle people were fighting to grab the free sides of the rope to try and slow me down from running so fast. It was getting snagged and I felt extreme pain in my body. The pain grew to the point my body caught on fire, I could feel my flesh searing. I remember fighting through it and eventually the pain went away and I kept running forward. Pretty Intense! So I combined my vision of the lion with the mandala to mirror a frequency of courage, strength and power to it's viewer and the space that it is hung in." - Chris Saunders

Lion Mandala is a 24 x 24 Inches 2-Color Screen Print with Spot UV Layer on 130lb French Black Licorice Paper with a signed & numbered edition of 100.

Gabz Texas Chainsaw Massacre Movie Poster Release Details

No comments:

Grey Matter Art is proud to announce their next release for the 4 part artist series for the 40th Anniversary of the film, "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre." Their next poster is by the very talented Grzegorz Domaradzki (Gabz). This is GMA sixth project collaboration with Gabz, and they are so excited with his idea for the film, and think it works very well as a companion piece to their other Texas Chainsaw Massacre posters in this series.

Regular Edition: 150/$50.00
Variant Edition: 100/$65.00
Foil Variant Edition: 75/$115.00

This poster is going on sale on Thursday, April 30th at a random time between 1-2 PM est in the GMA website shop page.

What Gabz had to say about the project:

“Being a huge fan of what Jason Edmiston and Florian Bertmer did for the same title before me, as hard is it was, I wanted my piece to be something completely different.
I’ve been wanting to work on something more editorial-looking for months, and with a title as long as this one, I felt it’s a perfect opportunity not to be wasted.

Since viewers of this classic horror flick are meant to believe it's based on a true story, custom-designed typo that looks like a front page of some crazy newspaper seemed like a right thing to do.Instead of focusing on just one scene or character, I included several plot points and all the essential characters destined (or not) to end up on Sawyer’s dining table."-Gabz-

No comments:

Jay Ryan has got a ton going on in the print shop, but four of his newest prints are now fit for human consumption, and are pictured. Above we have the print for perrenial favorites HUM, who distributed the rock musics to a bunch of very excited folks in Michigan. Axolotls, a downed astronaut, a young explorer - this print has everything.

Back in the '90s Jay got to make a bunch (like two or three) prints for Moreno, who have not played in this line-up for many years. Jay hopes you are not bothered by small monkeys with drums, who are also assisting larger bears with drums. They all have only good intentions.

Denial Super Saver! 2 Print Release

No comments:

Canadian artist Denial has a new release with 1xRUN on Monday, titled Super Saver 2.

"I originally painted a version of this in Wynwood at Art Basel this year (2015). Like a lot of working artists I put the entire trip on my credit card and had to deal with it after I got the "bill." It's basically a statement on living day to day and trying to figure it all out. Like how to make art and travel and live with some balance to it all.

I have an affinity, as many people do to super heroes. I really think they are a beautiful sentiment to a very messed up world/existence." - Denial

The print is 22 x 28 Inches Hand-Embellished 6-Color Screen Print on 350gsm Cotton Fine Art Paper with a signed & numbered edition of 40
