ARTIST
"Hello! I'm Aren Vandenburgh, a multi-faceted creative type who lives in Eugene, Oregon. I spend my days fiddling with mobile apps in an office building and in the evenings I make pictures of critters, little houses, and the moon.

In my youth I was taken to see Wes Anderson's Bottle Rocket in the theater and it had a big impact on me. Ever since, I've been inspired by Wes' dense, immersive, imagined worlds, and so I lunged at the chance to work on a poster for Fantastic Mr. Fox, with it's warm color palette and pleasant excess of small animals."

Galerie F Punk Rock & Paintbrushes in Chicago and Back To The Future

No comments:

Galerie F has a couple of big things happening that might be of interest.

PRESALE NOW - Galerie F have an upcoming pop-up show at Galerie F with an opening artist reception on Friday, December 1st from 6-11PM. They commissioned Suburban Avenger to design the show poster for this event with Matt Skiba (Blink-182 & Alkaline Trio), Warren Fitzgerald (The Vandals & Oingo Boingo), Hunter Burgan (AFI) and Danny Greene. They'll be hosting their group art exhibition all weekend but on opening night all artists will be present and available to sign the show poster IF you already have RSVP to attend. Any prints purchased with shipping will not be signed and more details about the presale are on the website:

"Punk Rock & Paintbrushes in Chicago"
18"x24" - 4 Colors - Edition of 100 Signed and numbered
Proceeds from this sale will go to Hope for the Day

2. PRINT RELEASE - Their next Logan Theatre print release is coming up! They've got a Back to the Future print by Suburban Avenger which will be available at the VIP release of the print on opening night of the screening. We'll be there starting at 9PM at The Logan Theatre on Tuesday, November 28th. The print goes online on galerief.com on Wednesday, November 29th at 2PM.

Here's a bit from the artist about working on the print:

"I feel like Back to the Future is one of those movies where there's a ton of posters for it, but they all center around similar themes of Hill Valley or the Delorean or Marty or Doc or the film's other frequent elements. Which I mean rightly so, they're all great parts of the movie. But going into this gig, I knew from the start exactly what I wanted to portray. I remember the first time I saw BTTF, I literally couldn't get Johnny B. Goode out of my head for the next two weeks. I felt like that scene so well captured the tone of the movie as a whole, and I knew from the very start I wanted to do something with Marty and that gorgeous Gibson ES-345. Incorporating the Delorean was a very last minute touch, but I feel that it drastically changes the piece and adds in that clever little element." - Luke Martin of Suburban Avenger Studios

Francisco Ramirez Big Lebowski Movie Poster Release By Galerie F

No comments:

Francisco Ramirez is the Head Honcho of the one person design/print studio Bureau of Print Research and Design based in Milwaukee Wisconsin. His work primarily consists of lowbrow and collage art that is used mostly for gigposters, shirts, and other promotional items. The Bureau is here to make some prints that you may or may not like, Ramirez likes fun though. For the The Big Lebowski show poster, the idea was to institute at least 3 memorable facets from the the film and combine the items into a layered poster.

The poster is Four color screen print measuring 18 x 24 inches, digital artist signature, hand numbered edition of 100.

You can get AP's from Francisco in his store HERE.

Blues Brothers Posters From Galerie F

No comments:

Galerie F just launched two Blues Brothers prints with a screening at The Logan Theatre. One by Aesthetic Apparatus and one by The Adam Hanson Co. — both editions of 50. Here's some info on both of those prints:

"The Blues Brothers, HIT IT!" by Aesthetic Apparatus
18"x24" - 3 Colors - Edition of 50 Signed and Numbered
$35
Available here

Michael Byzewski is the owner of Aesthetic Apparatus, a small graphic design, illustration and printmaking studio based in Minneapolis. For “The Blues Brothers” print he wanted to balance the grit and fun of the movie while giving a light nod to old blues concert posters.

"Mission from God" by The Adam Hanson Co.
18"x24" - 4 Colors w/ metallic gold ink and split flood - Edition of 50 Signed and Numbered
$35
Available here

The Adam Hanson Co. is a multidisciplinary studio based out of Chicago, IL creating posters, prints, apparel, and miscellaneous goods. When he’s not working, he’s probably watching a campy horror movie, enjoying a glass of Sailor Jerry, or participating in both simultaneously.

With the Blues Brothers Poster that he put together, Hanson really wanted to celebrate & almost evangelize the opening scene of Jake being released from prison and reunited with Elwood. Jake's release is shot beautifully and works as a great through-line for the entire film itself.

Justin Van Genderen Rogue NASA Poster

No comments:

This gorgeous design by Justin Van Genderen captured the hearts of the folks behind Rogue NASA. The image of a lone astronaut with the reflection of our planet on his helmet is quiet and pensive. You can feel the stillness of space around him. It elegantly captures the sentiment these recent rogue media outlets represent. When Justin Van Genderen brought this print idea to Galerie F, they couldn't wait to support his endeavor and their shared environment. This print release will donate 100% of the profits to organizations that fight against the climate crisis facing our planet. Galerie F may be "just an art gallery" but they believe that we're stronger together and hope this print release inspires you in the same way it did for them.

Dan Grzeca Top 20 Art Show At Galerie F

No comments:

Dan Grzeca is a Chicago-born illustrator and printmaker. He has been screen-printing since the mid-nineties, contributing to the nascent and then burgeoning roster of Chicago Poster makers by creating a visual documentation of the Free and Improvised music being made by Ken Vandermark, The Peter Brötzmann Chicago Tentet, and Caffeine among others. He has gone on to make work for big, famous bands, but still gets the most satisfaction out of making work that ties into music produced by talented friends.

His idiosyncratic style is achieved using pencil and scratchboard drawing techniques which are then transferred to screens for multi-layered printing. Dan spends a lot of time thinking about the screen-printing process in both a painterly and stripped down way, attempting to achieve aesthetic freedom by limiting choices in the composition process. Success to him is measured by visual boldness, stark imagery, subtle color layers, and ink-stained clothing.

“Dan Grzeca’s Top 20” will highlight twenty songs, pieces of music, musicians and bands that have inspired him over the past two decades. Music is an intangible experience that unites us all by way of rhythm and an intrinsic understanding of the human experience that transcends language. It is a great challenge to bring this movement to paper but Grzeca’s work is at the pinnacle of capturing the experience. Galerie F is thrilled to be working with not only a Chicago printmaking icon but also one of the foremost gig poster designers of our time.

The exhibition opening will take place from 6 p.m. – 10 p.m. on Friday, October 28th.
Complimentary alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages provided at the opening from
Three Floyds Brewing Co., The Hop Butcher and Perrier.

Details may be found at www.GalerieF.com.

Remaining artwork will be on sale Wednesday, November 2 at 5PM CST  on GalerieF.com. This is to give attendees and in-store purchases first grabs at this artwork.

Jim Pollock High-Phi Art Show Opening At Galerie F

No comments:

HIGH PHI is a Jim Pollock solo exhibition highlighting his reinterpretation of what it means to produce artwork about marijuana. The work takes on an activist stance in regards to his belief in the normalization of marijuana use around the world.

Exhibition Opening: September 23 6 p.m.-10 p.m.
Exhibition Duration: September 23 - October 23

Recently, Galerie F hosted a tremendously successful 30 Year Retrospective event featuring Jim Pollock’s long and illustrious career. Widely known for his bold and colorful linoleum prints featuring world famous bands such as Phish, Pollock’s more recent work deals with environmental and social issues. The artist is deeply committed to the legalization of marijuana as well as hemp as a valuable commodity. “HIGH PHI,” as an exhibition, highlights this aspect of Pollock’s artistic activism.

The month-long exhibit will feature brand new, never-before-seen work highlighting Pollock’s passion for the legalization and normalization of marijuana use in the United States. The work featured stems from Pollock’s drive to elevate the buying experience of a product that is typically viewed as illegal or unethical. Through this work, the artist aims to change stereotypes surrounding artwork displayed in locations such as marijuana dispensaries by producing work that examines the botanical intricacies, vivid colors, and highly intellectual beauty in the many different varieties of this controversial plant.

Pollock’s fans and collectors are dedicated, but this latest foray may catapult him as the Monet of Mary Jane. This upcoming show will feature new prints and sculptural art objects that integrate math and marijuana. “I was trying to incorporate the ratio of phi into every rendering. You can see it in the number of leaves, the angles at which the leaves protrude.” Like the universe in a thumbnail, these posters are a design feat that promise the more you look, the more you see. Besides the ride down the rabbit hole that is the golden mean, Pollock has another message: “I wanted to create art that pushes into the forefront something that should have been legalized years ago.”

“HIGH PHI” examines a different side of this quirky and influential artist. Join Galerie F in celebrating a landmark step in the evolution of Pollock’s accomplished career.
