David Welker Studios Spring Show Releases

No comments:

David Welker is excited to start 2021 off with a Spring Show featuring a new official print for Phish along with recent drawings, paintings, screenprints, and giclees.

I feel a lot of optimism in this catalog and I hope you feel it too. From December until now I've been pushing thick paint, graphite and ink in various forms of realism, fantasy, and abstraction.

For this show I have some very complex screen print work from three of my favorite print houses, End Hymns in Michigan, The Half & Half in South Carolina and Good Thoughts in Colorado (who affectionately delivers the "Stinkiest Ink" in the business).

I'm grateful for your continued support of my work and by extension to be able to support these great print houses all over the country.

As we move forward from here look for an official piece for Pink Floyd curated by David Gilmore himself. An official piece for the David Bowie Estate. An official piece for The Jerry Garcia Estate. And an official piece for The Grateful Dead, along with new paintings and drawings.-DW

To see all the art being released go HERE to see the Lookbook.

All prints will go on sale on Wednesday March 31 at 1PM EDT in his Welker Studios Store HERE ! For the first time ever, he will have a limited quantity of matching print sets of all 17 pieces in the show! Every tube will also receive a show card.

Akiko Steherenberger Iggy Pop 1977 Poster Release

No comments:

In the early spring of 1977, while largely both ensconced in an apartment building in West Berlin, Iggy Pop and David Bowie set out on the road together to promote Pop’s solo debut The Idiot. Bowie became a member of Pop’s band for the six-week jaunt promoting the album playing the piano, keyboards, and providing backing vocals. Unlike today in the world of smartphones where fans around the world would have a video the moment Bowie stepped on stage, most of audience had no prior knowledge that he was part of Iggy’s group.

Featured on this official screenprint are Iggy Pop's iconic concerts at the Agora Ballroom in Cleveland, Ohio, on March 21st and 22nd. On that night, the Godfather of Punk had clearly got his mojo back as he sounded refreshed and invigorated, with his raw and impassioned lead vocals leading the band with unabashed fervor. The concerts were also recorded and became part of Iggy's live album TV Eye Live 1977.

Artist Akiko Stehrenberger illustrated this print, which, like much of her work, you may have to look long and hard at to catch an awesome hidden in-plain-sight design element:

I wanted to create something as in your face and raw as The Godfather of Punk himself. Iggy Pop’s performances are as iconic as his music. He invented the stage dive and his contorted, shirtless dance moves often consisted of backbends (which I was able to subtly add in the shadow of his nose and brow.) I also wanted to nod at xeroxed punk fliers and color waves of this era. - Akiko Stehrenberger

Details on the poster Size: 18" x 24" Edition Size: 150 Paper: French Cougar White Five Color Screenprint Hand Numbered Holographic sticker on back of print for authenticity

On sale Tuesday March 30 at 2pm EDT in the Iconic Collectionzz Store.

Tula Lotay Salome Opera Poster Release

No comments:

This week Black Dragon Press will be selling a small consignment of posters from Evil Tender's Opera Print Series. The latest installment sees UK's Tula Lotay tackle Strauss' ‘Salomé’.

Chris over at Evil Tender posted this great write-up for it:

"There are a variety of biblical passages as well as scholarly and religious interpretations of Salomé, daughter of Herodias, step-daughter to Herod Antipas. Her story culminates in one single act — after entertaining her step-father and his court with the Dance of the Seven Veils, Salomé confers with her mother and requests that Herod Antipas deliver the head of John the Baptist on a platter as a gift for her performance.

She is a princess, a temptress, manipulator, and destroyer. Art history is rich with visual interpretations of Salomé’s story and as art inspires art (examples below), on the evening of December 9th,1905 in Dresden, Germany, composer Richard Strauss debuted his opera from Hedwig Lachmann’s German translation of Oscar Wilde’s 1891 French play, Salomé.

For her take on Strauss’s Salomé, UK-based comic artist and illustrator Tula Lotay gives us Salomé as Wilde and Strauss intended. She is strong and worthy of her place — sexual, dangerous, and intelligent. It can be said that these qualities are what made reviewers of the 1907 United States premiere at the Metropolitan Opera in New York City say, “the story is repugnant to Anglo-Saxon minds.” Over one hundred years later and audiences are still enthralled and captivated by the pagan dancer Salomé."
Poster mesusres 18” x 24” Screenprint with 9 colors on Mohawk Cream Paper
Limited Edition of 200.

Salomé by Tula Lotay will go on sale this Thursday at 5pm UK time from in the Black Dragon Press Shop for UK buyers and from the Evil Tender website at 1pm EDT for everyone else.

Motley Crue 40th Anniversary Poster By Dan Mumford

No comments:

From the rubble and ashes of a post-apocalyptic Hollywood rises the legendary Allister Fiend, the protector of the mighty Mötley Crüe! Collectionzz just released official new prints by Dan Mumford, giving Allister the first class treatment:

For this print I really wanted to create a world for the character of Alister Fiend to rule over, looking over this desolate landscape, scythe in hand. There isn't too much out there for the character, so it was a fairly blank slate and I enjoyed putting my own spin on it whilst staying true to the general vibe of the band. I tried to get quite a few little nods to the character and the band throughout the piece as well, placed around the debris. It's always important for me to have some good light coming through an image, and having the pentagram in the back be that light source worked really well. Overall I hope its a piece that fans of the band, and the character enjoy, as I had a lot of fun putting it together! - Dan Mumford
There are two different editions of this poster, both are amazing 8 color screenprints, measure 18" x 24", and will be hand numbered. The Timed Edition is available through March 26, and the edition size will be determined by the number of prints sold through Friday, March 26 at 11:59AM EDT. The Rainbow Foil Variant is an edition of only 50 and is $125 each!

Zeb Love Janis Joplin Print Release

No comments:

A staple of classic rock everywhere, Janis Joplin's Pearl embraced the blues and country influences quite well, given Joplin’s reputation as a musician in full control of her instrument. The album captured Joplin in her most dynamic studio performance, each note complementing her liberated vocal power to full extent, spreading through the full extent of her emotional spectrum. In celebration of the 50th anniversary of Pearl’s release, Collectionzz is commemorating the event with officially licensed screen-prints by Zeb Love!

In creating this poster celebrating 50 years of Pearl, I wanted to include as many references as possible to the album and Janis' life . From the song Move Over, "love dangling like a carrot" on her rearview mirror; from Half Moon, night sky, seven stars; and of course the Mercedes Benz. There are even references from the artwork that is on her Porsche. Janis left way too soon, but she gave us all such wonderful music that lasts forever. - Zeb Love

David Bowie Station to Station and the ISOLAR Tour Poster By Sara Deck Release

No comments:

To commemorate the 45th anniversary of David Bowie's Station to Station and the ISOLAR tour, Iconic by Collectionzz is pleased to announce their first official David Bowie limited edition screenprints by Sara Deck.

"The Thin White Duke is a striking character for a myriad of reasons. His crisp contrast visually and tonally set the stage for the juxtaposition of an ice cold persona crooning songs of romance. It captures forever a moment in time where David Bowie transitioned through a darker period in his life into an explosive new creative phase. My poster illustrates the radiating intensity of the Duke and the inspired outburst that culminated in one of the greatest albums of all time." - Sara Deck

Artist statement:

"The ocean covers 70% of the planet. Supplying every second breath we take, the oceans are the life support system of the planet so we need to maintain the health and balance of the seas. As citizens of Planet Earth, it is our responsibility to take care of vulnerable marine habitats as if our lives depend on it because, in the end, they do.

We especially need to focus our energies on restoring and protecting threatened marine habitat that has been exploited by human greed. If we lose these important ecosystems then the Earth will suffer and future generations will never be able to know how beautiful the ocean and its inhabitants are. Imagine relying on photographs and artwork such as this art print to teach future generations what the oceans once looked like?

I hope someday, sooner than later, people the world over will realize how important the oceans are, and together we can try to repair what has been destroyed, polluted, and lost. Together, we can make the Earth beautiful again." - Iannocent

Rush Moving Pictures Poster By Miles Tsang Release

No comments:

Moving Pictures was Rush's musical masterpiece and became the most popular album they ever released, and Collectionzz is celebrating the 40th Anniversary of the iconic album with official prints by Toronto's own Miles Tsang!

RUSH are kings of the classic rock genre, the greatest power trio in Canadian music, and one the crown jewels of rock and roll history. Composed of genius lyricist and percussionist Neil Peart, legendary guitarist Alex Lifeson, and the inimitable vocalist and bassist Geddy Lee, their recordings and performances encompass decades of material and have influenced generations of fans and fellow musicians alike the world over. As such, it was an incredible honour to be tasked with creating a commemorative work to celebrate the 40th anniversary of one of the group’s most celebrated creations and one of progressive rock’s most vaunted albums: Moving Pictures. The intent was to portray the band and their vision as dynamic, iconic and possessed of intricate craft and vitality, so the piece is set it within the record’s compositional template for immediate recognizably and packed full of various characters, concepts and visual nods hailing from RUSH’s first eight albums. Stylized swirls of multi-coloured psychedelic clouds billow and flow throughout the space, inter-connecting the band with every figure and reference in a chaotic yet balanced collage inspired by their irreverent and surreal covers, particularly the live album ‘Exit…Stage Left’ which was recorded in the same year of Moving Pictures’ release (1981). It’s my hope that the image honours the transcendent creative spirit, influence, and legacy that RUSH’s music represents while embodying something fans young and old can draw appreciation, inspiration and meaning from. - Miles Tsang

Jimi Hendrix Cry of Love Poster By Palehorse Design Release

No comments:

Collectionzz is celebrating the 50th anniversary of Jimi Hendrix's final musical gift to the world, The Cry of Love, with limited edition posters by Palehorse Design, available 50 years to the day the album was released!

"This poster was created to celebrate the spirit of Jimi Hendrix and the unifying music that he gave the world before he left his body prior to the album’s release in 1971. As an iconic symbol of peace and love during the ongoing war in Vietnam, Hendrix is shown from behind emanating a ‘Cry of Love’ to his audience as he bids us all farewell. The symbols running up the spine represent the chakra centers of the human body, with the spiritual eye open and awakened. The heart and spiritual eye chakras are focal points in mediation, used to transcend the body while sending and receiving divine Love. These Eastern symbols are also a nod to the 70’s spiritual revolution and Jimi’s usage of Hindu iconography in his album art for Bold as Love. The bow and arrow icons on his jacket reflect his Native American Cherokee ancestry and the original (unused) album artwork that Hendrix commissioned for the record before his passing. It’s an honor to have been selected to create this officially licensed, screen-printed poster for the fans and the pop culture archives as a tribute to the 50th anniversary of the one and only Jimi Hendrix solo record." ~ Palehorse

We are tied to the health of the ocean and simply put, without healthy oceans, life on land is impossible.

Print dimensions: Regular edition 24x24 inches with a one-inch border and variant edition 36x36 inches with a one-inch border

Available Wednesday, March 3 at 12 pm PST via https://shop.pangeaseed.org/

Artist statement:
"Island" was originally conceived for the UN World Oceans Week hosted by the Explorer's Club as a virtual event last year. The work was created live from my studio with daily check-in video chats alongside PangeaSeed Foundation's Tre Packard in between lectures by leading marine biologists, climate scientists, innovators, and explorers. A bit humbling to say the least. The resulting image illustrates ecosystem interdependence, particularly the connection of life on land to the health of the oceans.
