 PangeaSeed Foundation is pleased to announce the latest fine art print release for our educational print program, Printed Oceans. Featuring original artwork by supporting ARTivist Beau Santon (USA). "Island" is a limited art print edition that highlights our undeniable, yet often forgotten, connection to ocean ecosystems and the biodiversity that inhabit them.

The ocean produces over half of the world's oxygen that we depend on for survival and absorbs 50 times more carbon dioxide than our atmosphere. Covering 70 percent of the Earth's surface, the ocean regulates our climate, weather patterns and a major source of protein for billions of people around the world. We are tied to the health of the ocean and simply put, without healthy oceans, life on land is impossible.

Artist statement:

"Island" was originally conceived for the UN World Oceans Week hosted by the Explorer's Club as a virtual event last year. The work was created live from my studio with daily check-in video chats alongside PangeaSeed Foundation's Tre Packard in between lectures by leading marine biologists, climate scientists, innovators, and explorers. A bit humbling to say the least. The resulting image illustrates ecosystem interdependence, particularly the connection of life on land to the health of the oceans.

Beau Stanton Genesis Print & 2 More

1xRUN will be releasing 3 new prints by Beau Stanton and 6 pieces of original art. The prints are titled Genesis, The Ornamented Man and Cognative Conflagration.

Regarding Genesis Beau had this to say: "This piece was the central panel of a large triptych that made up the centerpiece of my Cartography of the Machine show. All of the work in the exhibition utilized some form of visual exposition to convey the narrative such as exploded views, cutaways, etc. These three paintings all correspond horizontally with elements from each stratified layer continuing into the next painting.

I’ve created images before that reference the stratified layers of history, but this image takes the concept in a different direction. A great tree of life blossoming out of the fertile ground made up of designs and ornaments from different time periods and cultures as well as a layer of dinosaur fossils and Greek sculptures (Most of them from the Pergamon Altar)." - Beau Stanton

Beau Stanton A Precarious Voyage & Maritime Alphabet Prints Release

1xRUN have Beau Stanton back on deck Thursday with a new print release, a series of prints and some original work all for sale.

First up is A Precarious Voyage which is 24 x 17 Inches Archival Pigment Prints on 310gsm Fine Art Paper with an edition of 40.

Next up is a series of 12 prints titled Maritime Alphabet that are 12 x 12 Inches Screen Print w/ Hand-Painted Maritime Flag Symbol on 110lb. French Art Paper each one also has an edition of only 4.

 "The ship depicted in the painting is an amalgamation of a few different vessels that I photographed while exploring an abandoned shipyard in Staten Island. I really liked the colors and strange loneliness of the ships.

In the painting, the waves of the sea are made up of the ornamental patterns that I like to use in my work that is meant to give a restless feel to the painting. The eye’s of providence are seen in the sky like the phases of the moon depicting transition and change.

I started the painting by priming the wood panel with different colored layers of acrylic paint then sanding it to create a varied texture. Next I drafted out the patterns with a compass and ink. The rest of the process was rendered with several layers of oil paint." - Beau Stanton

Beau Stanton The Fool Print On Sale Today

"The Fool was the central piece from my Arcane Archetypes exhibition where all the paintings were based on images from the Major Arcana of the Tarot. My first intention with this body of work was to create a series of images that instill a lasting imprint into the viewer’s subconscious. As an initial point of departure I started to research one of the most recognizable and iconic sets of images, the Major Arcana of the Tarot. After studying several existing decks, I discovered that some of the images shared common ground visually and conceptually with several paintings I had created in the past.

When I first thought about making a series of paintings based on images from the Tarot, I knew that I would have to include the Fool since it is the “zero” card and an extremely important archetype in the set. I started by researching all of the iconic tarot decks to see the ways the symbols had been interpreted in the past along with reading a few books by 19th Century occultists who were really into tarot. From there I applied some of my own symbols that I often use in my work that had common ground with the overall significance of The Fool to concoct a fresh take on an ancient iconic symbol." - Beau Stanton

Beau Stanton Enigma Print Release on Paper & Copper

 

1xRUN have brought Beau Stanton back for an incredible silk screen print RUN, one of them is on copper check that shit out WOW.

"These prints were made in the past few weeks specifically for 1xRUN. The original image was created in early July 2013 for the Shades show at Corey Helford Gallery. The theme was to create a piece in a single or limited color palette so I crafted a new image in two versions, one in a red-orange range and another in blue-green. The limited color range made it perfect for the four color screen printing process, especially when printed on copper. Because the inks used are mostly transparent, the finished print takes on a kind of holographic look when the light reflects off of the copper and passes back through the ink layers. It’s difficult to capture this effect in photos, but the end result is really beautiful." - Beau Stanton

Beau Stanton Arcane Archetypes Print Set Release

Beau Stanton Ornamented Subconscious Print Release Details

 COPPER

How often can you get a sick print on COPPER ? Well today is that day as 1xRUN are excited to welcome back Beau Stanton as he returns for his 5th RUN with the hand-embellished screen prints Ornamented Subconscious.

"The idea for this print began when I wanted to present an alternate view of the iconic skull image. I thought it could be really interesting to see from the inside looking out of a skull with all of the interior cavities and such. The prints were created over the course of a week in March with acrylic based screen print ink on 110 lb. French Paper and 16 ounce copper sheet. I decided to adapt this image into a screen print because the strong graphic elements and color scheme seemed to be ideal for the four color process. I've always liked the idea of printing on different materials and copper seemed to offer an interesting quality to this particular print. Because the inks used are mostly transparent, the finished print takes on a kind of holographic look when the light reflects off of the copper and passes back through the ink layers. It's difficult to capture this effect in photos, but the end result is really beautiful." - Beau Stanton

Beau Stanton Reason Sleeps Print Release Details

"When I'm not painting in the studio I like to get out and explore abandoned sites around the NYC area. A couple of years ago I went to Staten Island to check out Rossville Boatyard, a huge collection of rusting old ships sitting in a shallow muddy channel. After the trip I immediately got to work on this piece. Reason Sleeps depicts a captain-less sinking ship on a tumultuous ornamented sea 'watched' over by a closed eye of providence. It was created last year for my Sanguine Machine solo exhibition at Gallery Hijinks in San Francisco. I have since created other images that expand on the imagery in this painting but I felt like this one would make the best print." - Beau Stanton

Beau Stanton History of Semiotics Print Release Details

Back for his 3rd RUN, 1xRUN welcome Beau Stanton. Stanton's work explores the dynamic between graphic iconography and classicism, juxtaposing apocalyptic imagery with the aesthetic excess of Victorianism in order to synthesize organic and ornamental into a coherent post millennial point of view. He fuses elements of 19th century letterpress printing designs with masterful figurative oil painting, embellishing and manipulating focus, light and perspective. Catching up with Beau we asked him how Semiotics plays into the visual vocabulary of his artwork.

"Semiotics refers to visual symbols and how they are used to convey information. In this image,The History of Semiotics, the majority of the painting is composed of horizontal stratified layers of the Earth, each made of graphic ornaments from various cultures throughout history. Together they form a chronological descent into the past through the drilled cavity of an oil derrick. Using some of my favorite subjects like Pre-Cambrian sea creatures, skulls, cogs and fire, The History of Semiotics is a metaphoric penetration into the prehistoric.

Famed street artist and pop surrealist painter, Ron English, has hand-picked 14 artists who are drawn from the street and the pop surrealism movement to join him in displaying their South Park interpretations. The artists are unified by their love of the hit series and the passion they bring to their work. Their interpretations feature the South Park characters and the iconic moments throughout the series history. The featured artists include: Ron English, Travis Louie, Colin Christian, Sas Christian, Beau Stanton, Kid Zoom, Dave White, KaNo, Kathie Olivas, Clark Fox, Greg Craola Simkins, Mark Dean Veca, Lindsey Way, Naoto Hattori and Tristan Eaton. The 15 Artists Interpret South Park exhibit will be on display at Opera Gallery New York beginning March 28 through April 10.

This summer the 15 Artists Interpret South Park exhibit will be traveling to Comic-Con in San Diego for COMEDY CENTRALs Ultimate South Park Fan Experience. In addition, South Park fans can submit their own artistic interpretations at SouthParkStudios.com from March 28 to May 15. Ron English and the South Park staff will select the 15 best pieces and these will also be included in the Ultimate Fan Experience at Comic-Con.
