Dig My Chili Avett Brothers Dallas Posters Release Details

No comments:

It's been a little while since Dig My Chili released a poster by they have been slaving over the stove and got some fresh chili for you know. They did the posters for the two Avett Brothers shows in Dallas last night and tonight. Dig My Chili will have both posters on one sheet. They used 5 colors and printed them on silver paper. The regular posters wil have a run of 200 and each poster is signed and numbered. They also did a variant for this one and used metallic colored ink. That is an edition of 45 and they are signed and numbered, as well. Both posters measure 28 x 24 inches as well.

Dig My Chili on the design:
Part of it comes from the Pegasus being the unofficial/quasi official symbol of Dallas. (There's a huge red neon Pegasus atop a downtown skyscraper that was once the home of Magnolia Oil which much much later became Mobil oil.

Overall it has a bit to do with our can do attitude as a city and as Texans in general - this city rewards those that take a chance, work hard and eschew fear. Which, to us, is the same attitude and direction the Avett Brothers come from. They are true to themselves and their music. They aren't afraid to work hard and do things their way…so it just seemed like a natural fit. Add to it that we have the strongest most beautiful women in the world...

Oh and there are a few Avett Brothers song Easter eggs in it too.
Posters will go on sale at 9:30 PM central time tonight at the Dig My Chili Website

Zombie Yeti Swans New York Poster

No comments:

Zombie Yeti has released the first part of a Diptych poster for the recent Swans show in New York city. Part 2 will be revealed next month.

I asked Zombie Yeti about the design :
The story behind the design is pretty simple really. I had been looking at old Japanese matchbooks and originally wanted to do a send up to some of the fish-men style illustrations. I hate doing 'my take' on something done before so directly, so I started splintering out from that seed.

I had intended on doing some animalistic crustaceans when I sketched this monkey head next to a skull. It all kind of clicked and I ran with the idea of a monkey crab with a skull shell.

I stepped away and came back to it and my perspective changed a bit. That seemed to make too much sense, so I killed the claw and went for a spider-monkey with a skull shell instead and weird hybrid crustacean arm parts.

It's fun when Dan McCarthy releases his monthly print to see if it's loosely based on an old song or not and if I can remember it. Andrew Ghrist The Jungle Book Poster Release

No comments:

Back in October Galerie F hosted a three day pop-up exhibition for young artist Andrew Ghrist themed after Rudyard Kipling's the "Jungle Book". The exhibition, titled Tiger! Tiger!, was a huge success - nearly half of the prints sold out within three days with each and every original finding itself a brand new home. They were pleased to see such a positive response for this up-and-coming artist. Featured in this show was a graphite drawing for what was to be the show poster, but never came to fruition due to time constraints. Interest in this drawing soared through the roof, so they asked Andrew to ink and print this design. Three months later, Galerie F are pleased to announce the release of this drawing finally realized as a five layer art print. Details are below, hope you love it as much as we do!

Printed, signed, and numbered by the artist.

I love working on titles that had an impact on me back when I was growing up. First Blood (and Rambo character in general) are definitely among them. I still remember how this great piece of cinema moved me back when I saw it for the first time.
No doubt it was and remains one of the saddest movies from the 80’s. Both me and GMA guys wanted to capture some of that sadness on this image while at the same time keeping it very iconic… almost monumental.
Personally I’m very happy with the outcome. Consider this my final take on one of my biggest “old time heroes”: Sylvester Stallone. Hope I gave you justice John J... -Gabz-
"First Blood" was one of my favorite movies growing up. I loved all of those 80's films, but there were always certain ones that always stood out to me that I would watch over and over again, and this was one of them. Yes, the movie had some great action scenes, but I always thought it was such a sad film. Sylvester played this role of an outcast and an unwanted man when he came back form the war so well. You rooted for him until the last minute. And you can't forget about the music for this movie too. The film's score was composed and conducted by Jerry Goldsmith, and played so well to the film. This poster by Gabz depicts Rambo as that lonely man, and I am glad he chose to take it this way, instead of the "epic" action movie poster feel that most people think of when they envision the movie. I couldn't have asked for a better turn out from Gabz than this one".- Mike of Grey Matter Art

Bob Dob Barrels Of Fun Print Release

No comments:

1xRUN brings you back inside the crazy world of Bob Dob today with a new print release titled Barrel of Fun. It will come in your choice of two sizes 18 x 15 or 28 x 24.

"This painting was created for my solo show last November called “Exit Home.” The narrative for the show was how numb the general public has become to violence through our entertainment. I took two very recognizable pop culture characters, Mario and Luigi, and removed them from their world and put them into ours as LA gang members. My studio mate at the time was Greg Simkins who helped with the graffiti. All the paintings from the show had elements of L.A. gang culture but this piece “Barrels of Fun” focused on the whole story in one shot.

I tried to bring in as many characters from Super Mario Bros as I could. Mario, Luigi, Donkey Kong, and Princess Peach are in the front car with Bowser and some Koopas getting blown up and a few Goombas hanging out on the street." - Bob Dob

Tatiana Suarez x PangeaSeed February Print Release Creature Tales from the Deep

No comments:

PangeaSeed and special guest artist Tatiana Suarez are pleased to announce the second official print release of our 2015 print suite "Tales from the Deep: Stories, Myths & Monsters" - a fine art print suite to help save our seas.

Artist: Tatiana Suarez
Title: "Creature"
Artist statement: "I chose to paint a tribute to the classic monster flick, The Creature From The Black Lagoon. Horror flicks are my favorite genre. I also enjoy the timeless tale of beauty versus beast. I find myself rooting for the Gil-Man throughout the film—admiring his appreciation for beauty and his voyeuristic tendencies. One can easily sympathize with his character because like many sea creatures, he's most likely the last of his species and in risk of extinction. The scientists in the film invade Gil-Man’s habitat, attempting to capture him yet fail, and in turn, kill him. This echoes man’s destructive tendencies towards the ocean and disconnection from nature, making humans the real monsters."

Edition size: 50 plus 5 AP
Print details: Archival cold press watercolor paper
Dimensions: 20”x 20” inch
Price: $65 USD - plus shipping (please allow 4 to 6 weeks for delivery)

Original artwork: 18x18in oil on wood panel also available for purchase.

Prints and original artwork will be available for purchase at 12pm PST Thursday, February 26, 2015 via shop.PangeaSeed.org

Chris Saunders Wolf Mandala Print Release Details

No comments:

Chris Saunders will have a new print on sale from 1xRUN titled Wolf Mandala. It is a 3 color screen print measuring 24 x 24 inches.

"This piece was sold to a good friend of mine last year, which began as a custom commission that evolved over time.

There are lots of sacred symbols that are in this piece that were created with intention to protect the space that it is hung in. During the time I was experiencing some internal shifts that inspired me to create a piece that served as a protective guardian and the Wolf Archetype strongly embodied that quality.

The Wolf Archetype to me resembles a symbol of an intelligence as well as a fierce guardian. My work is about creating a reflective mirror that allows the viewer to see within themselves and evoke positive internal shifts. I’ve been exploring combining archetypal symbols with Mandalas that serve as symbols of strength to protect the space they are in as well as remind the viewer of their own internal strength and power." - Chris Saunders
