1xRUN 20+ New Blotter Editions For Bicycle Day Brandon Boyd Ben Frost Luke Chueh & More

1 comment:

To ring in Bicycle Day 2018, Detroit based fine art publisher 1xRUN is excited to announce over a dozen new blotter releases from Ben Frost, Brandon Boyd, Denial, Glenn Barr, Leni Sinclair, Luke Chueh, Mike Giant, Niagara, Ricky Powell, Tavar Zawacki aka Above. As well as welcome in photographer Roger Steffens/The Family Acid who joins them for his debut RUN featuring 4 iconic images throughout his storied career, including a shot of infamous Merry Prankster and LSD icon Ken Kesey! To help us bring it all together once again they’ve partnered up with Ken’s son, Zane Kesey out in Oregon to help with all the printing for this year’s print releases.

Brandon Boyd brings 4 new kaleidoscopic remixes of some of his classic works, with his signature style flipped, turned, mirrored and hypnotizingly intertwined on new editions of Baelyn As A Conduit, Five Modes Of Transport, Paige In Blue, and Two Muses.

Ben Frost joins us with a mix of new and old, featuring his Warhol-style variants for Wallflower, as well as some past favorites of WWIII… and Employee Of The Month both remixed for these unique blotter sheets.

Bringing along two of his LSD-laced favorites of his own is California artist Luke Chueh who’s melty Pink Eyes and Hoodie are sure to be fan favorites. Chueh also sheds some light on the fact that his signature "bear" character owes a great debt to the psychedelic birth of Luke Bear...

They all go on sale Thursday, April 19th at 12PM EDT at www.1xrun.com click the link to see all the pictures and to learn more.

Luke Chueh Headphones Print Release Details

No comments:

Luke Chueh returns to 1xRUN today with a new print titled Headphones.

"Headphones" was created for my 2014 solo show, "Self-ish", at Corey Helford Gallery. As the show title implies, the paintings created for the show had an autobiographic theme. As most have come to expect from me, most of the paintings from this show were rich in metaphor and symbolism, but there were a couple of paintings that I created that were simply reflections of my everyday life. "Headphones" is one of those paintings.

As the painting illustrates, my rabbit stands, wearing a hoody and dawning a pair of headphones. On a good day, you can find me assuming the same pose, going for a walk around my neighborhood, listening to whatever suits my mood." - Luke Chueh

The print goes on sale Thursday at NOON EST at 1xRUN.com

Luke Chueh Boba Print Release Details

No comments:

Luke Chueh strikes back again with 1xRUN today with his Boba print.

"The idea for this painting has been in my head for years now. I love puns and incorporating them into my paintings is one of my favorite things to do. I was basically waiting for the perfect show to feature the work, and they came around when Corey Helford Gallery had their "Pop-Eyeconic" group show.

I think this painting is especially poignant for me because it incorporates so many different aspects of my being. Star Wars if undeniably a big part of who I am. And like most kids my age, Boba Fett was a personal favorite. Boba Tea (or Bubble Tea) is something I can also be easily associate with through my Asian ethnicity. And the hoodie is my favorite article of clothing. The painting was sold at the show, and though I still have the original sketches and stuff around, I don't usually sell them unless there's an occasion, like a book release or something of the sort." - Luke Chueh

BOOK REVIEW: The Art of Luke Chueh Bearing the Unbearable

No comments:

“Like a cuddly Trojan horse, Chueh’s work is pretty on the outside, but nice and macabre on the inside” - Entertainment Weekly

The eagerly awaited first book from critically acclaimed pop surrealist artist Luke Chueh, THE ART OF LUKE CHUEH
presents Chueh's bold and unusual art -- employing minimal color schemes, simple animal characters, and a seemingly endless list of ill-fated situations.

Chueh has enjoyed success in the Lowbrow and Pop Surrealist art movements, and has risen to the forefront of the art scene in LA., featuring at sold-out shows, including the popular Crazy 4 Cult at Gallery 1988, in and around Los Angeles for the past four years. With a dedicated following, some of Chueh's characters have been recreated as a line of toys. Chueh also designed the cover for Fall Out Boy’s album Folie a Deux.

When I first opened the book and started flipping through it and looking at it I was instantly mesmerized by the gorgeous pictures and layout. I settled on reading Jensen Karp's introduction and how they have worked together and achieved more success then they ever thought possible. What really surprised me though is what happened the night they first met. I don't want to give anything away but in this digital age of instant information you think you have read and know just about everything but you can still learn something from reading a book. I'm glad Luke is still with us creating great work.

The book is really nice at 192 pages (the listing for it on Amazon says 160 and its wrong) and measuring 9.3x12.5. From 2003-2009 his paintings, toys and other work is laid out by year. Details on each piece are also listed like title, size, year and medium. My only suggestion would be to include the show or event a piece was created for as well. The introduction for each year is done by a friends such as Pete Wentz (Fallout Boy), the Madden brothers (Good Charlotte), Gary Pressman (Copro Gallery) and others. There are insights from Luke through out the book as well about his work.

Overall it is a great body of work and interesting to see his progression as an artist through the years. Hardcore fans and casual fans will be entertained and gain a new appreciation for his work. Titan Books and Gallery 1988 have done a brilliant job with this one.

Frank (Luke Chueh vs. Donnie Darko) is still my favorite

The book is available for pre-order at Amazon.com right now and its on sale. The book will be released on June 12. Before the official release he has a book signing and art show at Gallery 1988.

A retrospective featuring paintings from 2003-2009. To commemorate the release, Gallery 1988 be showcasing a selection of original sketches from which several paintings from the book were based on.
