The Collectors Cache Vintage Rock Posters From 1xRUN

No comments:

Over the years the folks at 1xRUN have met quite a few collectors that share the same passion for subculture and collecting. These passions culminate for the 1xRUN by collecting specifics artist's, iconography and imagery that shapes each of our collections. On the rare occasion they’re asked to offer vintage items on the site, and they have from time to time. Well last week profoundly changed the lives of 1xRUN and they’re excited to share with you the Collector's Cache.

When I traveled to 1xRUN this past weekend to catch up with Eddie Colla and the guys, I saw they had this big table set up that was filled with rock posters. I looked through them a little and was just blown away at the history sitting there. I asked Jesse about 4 times where did these come from ? I was able to sit down with them to get the scoop on this new collection they’re releasing.
ITRP: Where did you get all of these vintage rock posters?

1xRUN: We’ve been in talks with several collectors that have asked us if we would be down to offer their collections on 1xRUN. We’re all huge fans and collectors ourselves so we thought it would be cool to start offering collections of rare finds that people have amased over the past 20 or so years.

ITRP: What is in this first collection you will be offering?

1xRUN: First off there are some classic Coop and Kozik concert and art prints. Most of them are signed and numbered so that is pretty dope. Some of these gems have been on our personal radar for collecting so I’m sure several will make it into our personal flat files.

ITRP: What should collectors be looking for as you release different collections.
1xRUN: This is just the tip of the iceberg, we’ve really fell into a major collection and the first few releases are just the beginning. 2016 just may go down in the history books for rock and fine art print collectors as we have exclusive access to offer this collection to 1xRUN members.

Glenn Barr Presents Lyric 3 Show At Inner State Gallery

No comments:
Friday night Inner State Gallery hosted the opening of Lyric 3 a musically themed group exhibition curated by legendary Detroit artist Glenn Barr. Gathering over 40 artists from around the globe, Barr had one simple request: Each piece of art must be 12 x 12 inches, paying homage to the timeless beauty that can fit on the cover of a vinyl record.

“Music and its lyrics can always stimulate our emotions, as well as leave us contemplating a visual narrative. Artists have used lyrics as inspiration and as a muse in their work to express an idea or a phrase for eons. History has shown us that they have created some of the greatest works in the world when guided by a melody and its words. This exhibition will illuminate the artist’s personal transcription from a song lyric to canvas,” Barr said from his Corktown studio.

Glenn Barr Pit of the Id Solo Exhibition at Cotton Candy Machine

No comments:

On the evening of July 17th, The Cotton Candy Machine are welcoming back the Detroit-based master painter, Glenn Barr for his second solo show, "Pit of the Id"! It has been almost three years since Glenn’s first solo show with them, which opened in September 2012, and they are eager to have his work on their walls again. This new show, too, will spotlight a variety of Glenn’s smaller works, although they can promise at least one large centerpiece to enthrall and mesmerize his many fans. While Glenn’s work is always very clearly his own, due in part to his hazy color palette and the almost seductive nature of his often isolated figures, he manages to explore many realms of imagery without ever leaving the universe he has created for himself. For this show, Glenn invites us to view his playful side through some re-imaginings of beloved characters like Judy Jetson and Wilma Flintstone. Painted in his softly gritty style, these ladies appear in moments of solitude, skin exposed and peering out through magnetic eyes. Simply the choice to pull inspiration from these particular retro vixens feels entirely in line with Glenn’s vision. Like many of the elements in his work, they are relics of America’s not-too-distant past; a vision of feminine beauty that spans all the way from the stones of Bedrock to the depths of outer space.

Opening Event Friday July 17th
7pm to 11pm

Glenn Barr Afro Boy Print

No comments:

1xRUN just released a new print by one of their favorite artists Glenn Barr and it is titled Afro Boy.

"The piece was created for my mini solo show at Miami Basel 2014. Andrew Hosner of ThinkSpace Gallery had invited me to participate at their booth where he gave me a large wall to exhibit my work. This was at one of the large satellite venues in Miami called SCOPE. “Afro Boy” was the first piece to be sold at the opening.

The original was painted in acrylic on wood. I recall when I was rendering the piece that I painted the girls face, hair and torso many times to get it right but Astro came quite quickly. I only made a few passes on his figure and it was done. I didn’t want to over work him. I think that’s why the piece has a lot of life to it. It retained the energy of the sketch." - Glenn Barr

Glenn Barr T28 Recommissioned Print Release

No comments:

For their 1000th RUN (meaning the 1000th print they have published), 1xRUN will release a new print by Glenn Barr titled T28 Recommissioned.

"The original was created for Copro Gallery’s 20th Anniversary in 2013. I’ve been involved in many shows with them and did this piece specifically in celebration of a cool show I did together with Tim Biskup and the Coop based on the love of anime and Japanese monsters.

This was probably the 3rd or 4th time I had “reconstituted” Gigantor or T28 as I tend to call him. Since it was a 60’s cartoon, I always thought it would be cool to use the character as a leftover from another age and was turned into something else. I depicted a house made from his head once and another time I had turned him into a tank/vehicle … quite surreal actually." - Glenn Barr

Glenn Barr Muse of the World Prints Release Details

No comments:

Glenn Barr returns to 1xRUN Thursday with a new print release of Muse of the World.

"This image was a popular poster I had released a few years ago. I decided to take it to a more “handcrafted” limited edition print different from offset. Last year I had it transcribed into a 2 color silk screen print and released it with only 25 in the edition, made for my show at Inner State Gallery in Detroit...They went fast. In celebration of the popular image I wanted to do another version. This time changing the color ways from the electric red. 50 editions to be in cool blues and another 50 in deep golds. Then to add a special edition and limited to 25 I created a 3rd screen with line work to enhance the Muse’s spectacle of flight." - Glenn Barr

Each one is a 22 x 30 Inches 2 & 3 Color Screen Prints on 140lb French Fine Art Paper

Glenn Barr The Ancients Print Release

No comments:

Glenn Barr is back with a release through 1xRUN as part of the Pow Wow 2014 Featured Artists View Entire Series

"This piece is one of the few times I’ve given a figure extra arms. They come in handy when working machinery and flying contraptions. The original sold at my 2013 Spring solo exhibition at the Inner State gallery. The Detroit grand opening of the gallery last May was met with great success. It’s a beautiful space. The show was titled ROOMS where I was able to develop a cross section of the work I do. Part of the show consisted of images illuminating persons and places around the city ( based on fact and fiction ). The other half of the show I wanted to take people outside the city and into the realm of the fantastic and the “otherworldly” settings that patrons know me for: the ROOMS of my brain. This piece was painted in 2013 using acrylic on board. I pulled the idea from a drawing in my sketchbook. I remember it came together fairly fluidly, kind of a stream of consciousness product, as I tend to work that way." - Glenn Barr

Glenn Barr The Day Dream Print & 1xRUN 3 Year Anniversary & 600th RUN

No comments:

On November 1st 2010, 1xRUN started off as a simple concept - release one art print every Monday, set a limit on the edition and only have that print available for 1 week. They’ve come quite a ways since 1xRUN began as a side project run out of the back room of our old gallery...

Read more on the 3 year anniversary from 1xRUN co-founder Jesse Cory at the 1xRUN Blog ...

As they kick off their 3rd year and launch their 600th RUN they've partnered up with one of their most celebrated collaborators Glenn Barr on a new concept he said “sounds like a great idea that just might work.”

Here’s how it’s going to go down this Friday at Noon EDT. They will post Glenn Barr’s “The Day Dream” 100 times, #100 will be offered at just $1 and each print will increase $1 up to $100 for #1.

They wanted to change things up and add some excitement for their 600th release and they thought it would be a killer way to give back to all of their fans and collectors with a chance to score an amazing print at a killer price. These will go quickly so get there early and grab yours before they are all gone.

"This was a chance to do yet another Christ related piece. I had done a few Jesus themed pieces in the past placing him different situations … perhaps considered irreverent but it really depends on how you look at it. So they’ve been met with, and not surprisingly, mixed reviews. But in the end they had become wildly iconic and popular in my career." - Glenn Barr

Glenn Barr Lisa Sez Print Release

No comments:

Glenn Barr is back with 1xRUN for a new print RUN today featuring Lisa Sez.

"I envisioned a character that was a fixture in an old Hamtramck neighborhood bar. I think we all know someone like that… a little tragic, a peripheral friend, a party girl, with something dramatic always happening in their lives. This piece was part of the 2012 group show called LYRIC that I had curated. The show was all about songs and their lyrics. I always liked the Velvet Underground song “Lisa Says”, so based on that tune I created the visual equivalent…in my eyes anyway." - Glenn Barr

Inner State Gallery Opens May 17th With Glenn Barr Rooms Show

Owners of 323East Announce New Gallery Opening in Eastern Market

Inner State Gallery To Open May 17th with Glenn Barr Solo Exhibition

Inner State Gallery will open May 17th with artist Glenn Barr’s first Detroit solo show in nearly four years, aptly titled “Rooms”. The debut show in the recently renovated 1800 square foot gallery at 1410 Gratiot in Detroit’s Eastern Market marks the beginning of a new chapter for the creative collective grown out of 323East in Royal Oak, Michigan.

Owners Jesse Cory and Dan Armand have invited storied Detroit artist Glenn Barr back for this inaugural show, as Barr’s 2009 solo exhibition helped solidify 323East as a top spot for local artists and collectors. This would lead to a legacy of 50+ shows as well as being named Best Place To Buy Art in Detroit five years in a row by the readers of Real Detroit Weekly.

"Rooms is an exhibition of scenarios inspired by a lethargic Detroit. Images of wandering bars & bohemian escapists, electric streets & closing time, space gear & boas, all the while unaffected muses look down from on high,” Barr said about his latest work from his studio space in Corktown. The show will feature a collection of smaller intimate works, large paintings, and a limited offering of rare sold out prints from the archives of Glenn Barr and 1xRUN.

To coincide with this exhibition, Barr and Inner State Gallery have also teamed up to create two limited edition print sets titled “Detroit Rooms”. Each set will have six - 8 x 8 inch prints signed by the artist in a special two-sleeve embossed letterpress folio printed by Bryan Baker’s Stukenborg Press, located in Corktown’s Poneyride complex. Each set is limited to 100 and will be available at the opening.

The historic three story building totals nearly 10,000 square feet and includes an expansive white wall gallery, production offices of the group’s online gallery 1xRUN, as well as an artist in residency live/work space. Built at the turn of the century, the building was originally used as a manufacturing and retail location for the Detroit Knitting Mills.

”We have been searching for the right location for the past two years and we are more than excited to finally call Eastern Market home,” explains Inner State/1xRUN co-founder Dan Armand. “The Market is such a special place. It’s a vibrant, colorful part of the city that has brought people from all walks of life together week after week for well over a century.”

Now, with the completion of a recently renovated exhibition space designed by architect Tadd Heidgerken -- whose portfolio includes Slow’s To Go, Astro Coffee & Red Bull House of Art -- Inner State Gallery will host the world’s finest local and international artists as they exhibit exciting new work in Detroit.

On May 24th, Inner State Gallery will also open it’s doors for fellow Detroit artist Ron Zakrin, as he showcases his latest body of work “Beauty & The Beats”. This entirely new collection of work is inspired by electronic music in celebration of this year’s Movement Festival.

“Beauty & The Beats refers to my pursuit of an aesthetic that embraces a sinister beauty, and the music that inspires my work. Repetition plays a visual role, alluding to rhythms heard, digested, and transcribed onto a two dimensional plane. In this exhibition of new work, some references are overt, some covert, and others are totally subliminal,” Zakrin said. “There is enough ugly in this world to choke the heart out of everyday existence, I respond by painting what pleases me visually and sonically.”

With exciting shows planned throughout the summer, highlights include legendary artist and designer Camilo Pardo, Theatre Bizarre creator John Dunivant, Austrian street artist Nychos The Weird and a collaborative exhibition from Canadian street artist Denial and acclaimed Australian artist Ben Frost.

Glenn Barr Stephanie Sez Print On Sale Today

No comments:

Glenn Barr is back at 1xRUN with sexy new print going on sale today.

"This piece was sold at my show “Detroit Rooms” in Brooklyn at the amazing Cotton Candy Machine Gallery in the fall of 2012. This was an unusual process, at least for me, because I drew directly onto the canvas with no sketch and simply began to paint. I really love experimenting because there’s always the chance you’ll make a mistake. And that’s what I strive for, if I mess it up by accident, it’s usually a beautiful thing. Some of the most amazing accidents end up being part of the art. It’s like painting without a safety net. You just let things happen." - Glenn Barr

Glenn Barr Alien Bride Print On Sale Today

No comments:

"The “Alien Bride” was conceived one evening in a late night drawing session in my sketch book. I wanted to visualize the dichotomy of scale with the female form and include a large “not of this Earth” figure, this came about in a stream of consciousness like thought process…kind of letting the pencil flow about the paper and then pulling out an image once there are enough lines on the page, in doing this you can create a very energetic drawing." - Glenn Barr
