1xRUN 20+ New Blotter Editions For Bicycle Day Brandon Boyd Ben Frost Luke Chueh & More

1 comment:

To ring in Bicycle Day 2018, Detroit based fine art publisher 1xRUN is excited to announce over a dozen new blotter releases from Ben Frost, Brandon Boyd, Denial, Glenn Barr, Leni Sinclair, Luke Chueh, Mike Giant, Niagara, Ricky Powell, Tavar Zawacki aka Above. As well as welcome in photographer Roger Steffens/The Family Acid who joins them for his debut RUN featuring 4 iconic images throughout his storied career, including a shot of infamous Merry Prankster and LSD icon Ken Kesey! To help us bring it all together once again they’ve partnered up with Ken’s son, Zane Kesey out in Oregon to help with all the printing for this year’s print releases.

Brandon Boyd brings 4 new kaleidoscopic remixes of some of his classic works, with his signature style flipped, turned, mirrored and hypnotizingly intertwined on new editions of Baelyn As A Conduit, Five Modes Of Transport, Paige In Blue, and Two Muses.

Ben Frost joins us with a mix of new and old, featuring his Warhol-style variants for Wallflower, as well as some past favorites of WWIII… and Employee Of The Month both remixed for these unique blotter sheets.

Bringing along two of his LSD-laced favorites of his own is California artist Luke Chueh who’s melty Pink Eyes and Hoodie are sure to be fan favorites. Chueh also sheds some light on the fact that his signature "bear" character owes a great debt to the psychedelic birth of Luke Bear...

They all go on sale Thursday, April 19th at 12PM EDT at www.1xrun.com click the link to see all the pictures and to learn more.

Ben Frost Can't Sleep Clowns Will Eat Me Print Release

No comments:

Australian artist Ben Frost has a new print titled Can't Sleep Clowns Will Eat Me and it will be released by 1xRUN. The print comes in your choice of sizes 17x17 or 24x24 inches.

"The world is run by clowns. Moronic and colorful, they dance across our television screens touting surreal propaganda and advertising slogans in a bizarre theatrical performance without intermission. I use mini-dialogues that come together to make up an overall pastiche, that reflects how I see the world – especially as it is delivered to us through the media. In these 'mash-up' paintings, countless characters exist and interact within the same picture plane, to create a frenetic snapshot of the chaos that we endure in our every-day lives." - Ben Frost

Ben Frost Employee of the Month Print Release Details

3 comments:

Australian artist Ben Frost is back at 1xRUN today with more commentary on pop culture with his Employee of the Month print.

"This was one of four large pieces that I produced for the exhibition 'Company of Thieves' at Inner State Gallery in Detroit in 2013. I haven't really painted in this detailed 'mash-up' style for a while, so it was good to get back into. I enjoy making these types of paintings, because they're very 'organic' in that I don't necessarily have any specific idea where it's going until it's nearly complete. The characters and elements just kind of appear and interact between themselves to define hidden and subliminal ideas." - Ben Frost

The print will come in two sizes 17 x 17 & 24 x 24 and will go on sale Friday at NOON EST at 1xRUN.com

Ben Frost 20th Century Violator Print On Sale

No comments:

Ben Frost has released a new print with the website Stupid Krap. The print is 40.5cm x 55cm, giclee on 290GSM Moab Entrada bright white watercolour paper Signed, titled and numbered edition of 75

This painting was made for an exhibition I did in San Francisco, and is definitely one of my favourite large paintings I've done in the last year or so. The painting is called '20th Century Violator' and it relates to how I see myself as an artist, and society's place in the scheme of things. My process is one of taking images, subverting them and juxtaposing them into weird situations, so it's very much like looking back at the 20th century and fucking with it - or 'violating' it. I have a love/hate affair with advertising and the media, which also includes the morals and values of previous generations.

The female protagonist in the center of the image peers sultry and exotic over a shoulder of her own death - or a 'projected' death that wants to 'Have and To Kill' rather than to 'Have and To Hold'. The skull on her back is from a poster for the movie Evil Dead 2 (one of my favourite series of films) which reflects a contrasting duplicity of attraction and repulsion that I often explore in my work.

I've alluded to the turmoils of relationships with the pistol image on the left. It features a love heart on the handle, with a rose in the barrel, and the phrase 'like a boss' along the side - which is juxtaposed with the couple kissing beneath it and a frightened rabbit.

In the background there is a landscape scene - on the right there is a colorful rainbow with a fairytale castle and sheep in the fields and on the left we see the same scene in banal greys, with the same sheep dead in the field.

So there is darkness and light, old and new, hope and distraught - all opposing emotions and ideas that we experience often simultaneously in the rollercoaster that is life."

Ben Frost x Denial Denialex-PM Prints On Sale Today

No comments:

1xRUN welcome back Canadian street artist Denial as he returns for his 11th RUN, this time around however, he is joined my his Australian counterpart and recent partner in crime Ben Frost on their latest pharmaceutical parody with Denialex-PM .

"This collaborative piece was created over a couple of days in November 2012 while Ben was visiting my studio in Windsor. Ben has recently been painting onto found pharmaceutical packaging and I have created fake packaging and products in my own work, and so we thought it would be a perfect marriage of our styles. I created the initial concept behind the 'product', a fake mind suppressant drug DENIALEX and we both worked on the composition, layout and details of the 'packaging'. The background of the original piece is all spray paint on wood that I cut and applied using about 12 stencils. Ben then hand painted the crying girl in the foreground. The original sold the day after we finished it to a collector in Vancouver, Canada." - Denial

"Suffice to say, if you look closely at the text on the packaging, there are a number of funny subversion's that we included that you wouldn't ever see on pharmaceutical packaging." - Ben Frost

Denialex-PM is a 16 x 24 Inches Archival Pigment Print on 330gsm Fine Art Paper with a signed and numbered edition of 65

There is also the option to get one that is hand embellished as well, there will only be 10 of those for sale.
