"Tupac Shakur is hip-hop royalty and one of the most important and instantly-recognizable figures in the history of American music (not to mention pop culture at large), so being trusted with crafting a poster to commemorate one of his most famous songs “California Love” was massive and something I took very seriously.
My goal was to portray the icon as larger-than-life, decorating him with visuals from both accompanying music videos. The West Coast is inseparable from the multi-platinum single and the rapper’s lexicon as well, so the poster also features an undulating Los Angeles skyline, distant mountains, palm trees and a desert, all enshrined in clouds of golden dust and crackling tendrils of rhythmic flame with an earthy, sun-baked palette reminiscent of the 90’s aesthetic. I wanted the piece to feel like a positive and powerful representation of the man and the song itself, honoring the influence and legacy of both while making something any fan of the man (and his chosen home) can love and cherish." -Miles TsangMain Edition - $75.00
The piece is my simple but surreal take on one of the band’s most well-known classics: John The Fisherman! The vibe is inspired by the band’s dynamic and turbulent instrumentation, featuring analogously rhythmic typography and linework, clusters of sea-fauna local to the state of Pennsylvania, and a twist on another song in the form of Tommy The [Giant] Cat[fish].
