James Flames Dave Matthews Band & Umphrey's McGee Posters Release

No comments:

James Flames has a couple of new ones. First is his newest poster for Dave Matthews Band, from their recent show at Fiddler's Green. And for this one, he will actually have a very small Variant edition on "Rainbow HoloFoil"!

The title for this one is "When You Come Home", and here's it's story:
They saw each other from across the Village of Green. It’s a musical village, with two roads of piano keys winding through the trees — the kind of piano keys that tinkle and sing as the wind blows.
She jumps into his arms. Home again!
It’s a moment of reunion that quickly becomes bigger than life itself, and certainly bigger than the vast village surrounding them. They tower over the trees, like two enormous giants, and the wildflowers dance in the wind with her wild hair.
But most amazingly, their gigantic moment casts a massive shadow — a shadow so deep that it opens into the outer reaches of the universe.
And there they are, on the edge of eternity, holding on to each other ever tighter.
James also had the great pleasure of creating the poster for Umphrey's McGee's recent show in Louisville, KY. he'll also have two small HoloFoil Variant editions.

This one is titled "The Pack". and it's story goes like this:
When the whole family gets together, maybe they’re a little too curious for their own good.
As they were prowling around, looking for some fun and maybe some trouble to get into, they came upon a van parked in the Motel parking lot.
It was the dead of night and everyone was asleep, but the door to the van was open for some crazy reason.
They looked inside and found a full band’s worth of musical instruments!
As it turns out, all of them had always wanted to play guitar, since they were wee pups. Well now was their chance, so they took the guitars in their mouths, along with some pedals and cables, and dragged them back to the woods.
One by one, and all at once, they started playing the guitars. Furiously!
...If only they actually knew how to play.
By the end of the night the guitars were in absolute pieces. Turns out they all like to play a little rough — giving new meaning to the term “shredders”.
As the sun comes up, the family are feeling pretty satisfied with their wild jam session — and somewhere there’s a band waking up to an empty van....
Also, every order comes with a signed "Story Sheet" that tells the story for each poster.

Both will be on sale Monday, August 26th at 2pm Eastern at www.jamesflames.com/

James Flames 311 DMB Dead & Company Posters Release

No comments:

James Flames is dropping 3 posters in one day, it's going to be madness.

311 Detroit with foil variants.
Dead & Company Boulder.
Dave Matthews Band Alpine Valley.

James talks about them:
This is crazy! It seems like everything I've been hard at work on for the past 2-3 months all wound up being for posters this past weekend!! Funny how that works out.

Can't tell you how excited and proud I am about every one of these -- so glad they're finally out there! There are so many intricate little details on each one -- please click the links to explore them further, they're really fun.

So, as you may know, I always write a little story that goes along with each of my posters. When I'm drawing these, I really fall deep into the worlds they create, and so it's hard not to come out with a story that widens the horizons even further.

But with so many posters being released tomorrow, if I were to write out all three stories right here, your email inbox might run out of room LOL.

That said, the story for each poster is in the descriptions on my Instagram posts for each piece. There's a link at the very top of this email for my Instagram page, and so if you're not already following, now's a good time to hop aboard!

Also, every order comes with a signed "Story Sheet" that tells the story for each poster. So there's that, too.

Anyway, everything you see here will be available Tuesday, July 9th at 2pm Eastern at www.jamesflames.com

James Flames Trey Anastasio Band Atlanta Poster Release

No comments:

James Flames latest poster for the Trey Anastasio Band, for their recent set of shows at the fabled Tabernacle in Atlanta.

The illustration is titled "Signals & Noises", featuring a guitar playing tiger in the wild. He’s got his amp dialed in, and his guitar is tuned up, and, well... he’s got like a MILLION pedals! The entire floor is filled with them, the bass drum is filled with them, they’re stacked on the drum heads, and on top of the amps. They’re everywhere, and they're admist the nature growing wildly all around. Everything is all connected, creating one solid current, one immersive flow: The music originates from the musician, it’s influenced and nurtured by nature, and then it’s communicated through electricity. For us. ROAR!

Every guitar pedal in this illustration is based on a real (and sometimes super obscure) pedal, many of which are in Trey's actual rig. How many can you recognize?

James also made a very small edition of "Dots" HoloFoil variant, which is pretty sick, to be honest.

Both versions will be available Tuesday, June 4th at 2pm Eastern at www.jamesflames.com

James Flames Dave Matthews & Tim Reynolds Charleston Poster Release

No comments:

Here is James Flames latest poster for Dave Matthews & Tim Reynolds, from their concert this past Saturday (4/20) in Charleston, South Carolina.

According to James, he visits Charleston quite often, and thought it'd be fun to play with the chill coastal vibes of that city. Here’s the little story behind this piece:
Springtime is here, and it seems like the fields of newly bloomed flowers are an endless sight for our traveling musicians. They've brought along their guitars and their best bud pup, and the three of them set out to find the coast.

They had heard legends about the magic keys – it seemed almost unbelievable to them, but then there they were: two giant, golden keys just laying there in the flowers! They picked these keys up and carried them along, keeping their eyes peeled for the natural companion to the keys: a keyhole.

It didn’t take long for them to find it, and so they used one of the keys, curious to see what happens next.

And then it happened. The blue sky turned into waves, flowing and crashing onto themselves like a giant ocean in the sky. But the center of those waves began to open into a giant portal. They stood in absolute awe as the portal presented to them just what they were looking for all along, the beautiful coast. They walked through the portal to the beach, continuing their adventure. Who knows what wonders await!
Poster is 18" x 24" Screen Print
Artist's Edition of 75, Signed & Numbered

These limited edition posters will be available Tuesday, April 23 at 2pm Eastern at www.jamesflames.com

James Flames Dave Matthews Band & Eric Church Posters Release

No comments:

First up is James Flames latest poster for Dave Matthews Band, from their recent show in London.

The title for this one is "Magic Always Finds You”, and here's its little story from James: It's a typically rainy day in London, and a young couple is taking a lazy stroll through the city. Along their way, they pass by this curious building that catches their eye – something about it just calls to them, and the plants and flowers inside look SO inviting. So they come in from the rain for a few minutes to find some peace and quiet in this happy little place – and just as they get comfortable and start to dry up, star-dust floats through the window and dances around them, celebrating young love. They reach out and grab a little bit of the magic, so that they can take it with them as they go back out into the city, back out into the rain.

Next, he'll be releasing the new posters he made for Eric Church, from his recent shows in North Carolina. According to James "this was a really fun and challenging project. It's a three-poster set (triptych), with all three individual posters combining together to make one giant image." These will be sold as matching number sets of three posters.

But, James wanted to take this to another level, and so he created the image so that the two end-pieces could combine seamlessly to create a two-piece set (diptych). For these, he made special uncut sheets -- so it's one giant 36" x 24" poster, uncut, combining the two posters together. These uncut sheets are exclusive to his website, they were not available at the shows, and they're limited to an edition of only 25!

Everything will be available Tuesday, March 26 at 2pm Eastern at www.jamesflames.com

James Flames Dave Matthews & Tim Reynolds Mexico Poster Release and Some Pigeons

No comments:

James Flames has a couple of new posters. First is a poster for Dave Matthews & Tim Reynolds from their recent show in Riviera Maya, Mexico, and it glows in the dark!

According to James. It's titled "The Songs We Sing About The Moon", and it takes place on the shores of Riviera Maya, on a beautiful star-filled night. Beneath the shoreline there’s a hidden underwater Mayan ruin filled with magic. The people who live there are all musicians who play guitars and when they sing, it creates beautiful golden shapes that float through the water. They sing songs about the moon, but not just the ordinary moon --- they sing about the special moon that lives in the middle of the giant Mayan ruin. They light candles to honor their moon, and these candles magically stay aglow even underwater, and flicker to the rhythm of their songs.

The next poster is James' first time working with Pigeons Playing Ping Pong. Says James ; I had a lot of fun with this one. The title is "The Visitation", and the story goes like this: an otherworldly being comes down to earth, and the inside of her cloak is a portal to a dimension of floating guitars. She appears in front of two pigeons, presenting to them the inter-galactic symbols of peace: a ping pong ball and a paddle. Her presence is monumental! Her appearance is earth-shattering! Her gesture is historic! And the pigeons... well, they’re a little too preoccupied with a few crumbs on the ground to notice...

He also made two very cool Foil variants for this one: a "Fireworks" HoloFoil and a "Circular Visions" HoloFoil.

Everything will be available Tuesday, February 19 at 2pm Eastern at https://www.jamesflames.com/

James Flames Dave Matthews Band mewithoutYou & A New Art Print Release

No comments:

James Flames has three final pieces to share with you guys before they put 2018 in the books.

The first is his latest poster for Dave Matthews Band, from their recent homecoming holiday show this past weekend in Charlottesville. It's titled "A Season of Tomorrows". The posters sold out at the show pretty quickly so these will be the last copies available.

Next is his newest Art Print. It's called "Lighting The Way". This was a very special piece commissioned by Speedball Art, the amazing folks who make all the ink James prints with! They gave him free reign to create anything he wanted, and so he put literally everything he had into it. Says James "I couldn't be more proud of how it came out -- it's one of those pieces that felt even more alive after I finished printing it than I could have imagined. I also made a special process video, showing the entire printing process for this piece". Check out the video below.

Finally is a poster James created for mewithoutYou, for their recent Fall Tour across the US. According to James "These guys were so fun to work with -- they gave me a lyric from their new album and asked me to use that as inspiration. And it really did inspire me to create the story within this image. It's titled "If The Briar or Wheat Grow, Cloven Tongues of Fire Aglow", which is the lyric from their song Break on Through (To the Other Side) [pt. Two]". These posters also sold out at the shows, and so these will be the last prints available.

Everything will be available Thursday, December 20th at 2pm Eastern at https://www.jamesflames.com/

No comments:

Here is James Flames latest poster for Dave Matthews Band, from their recent show at the hallowed grounds of The Gorge!

The illustration is titled "Crash Into Me", and the scene takes place on a special night: the night of the comet-showers. Out in the field, there’s an old car that’s grown into the foliage – it’s a favorite spot for this young couple. They climb the car hoping to maybe catch a glimpse of the stars, but the cosmos decides to put on a magical show just for them. The comets dance and fall, and the stardust crashes down upon them, making an everlasting connection between them and the universe.

This is a Limited Edition of 1,750 -- the vast majority of them were sold out at the concert, and so these are the remaining final prints available.

James Flames 311 & Umphrey's McGee Posters Release

No comments:

First up is James Flames newest poster for 311, from their recent show in St. Paul, MN. The illustration is titled "Teenage Bedroom", and it's his homage to the early 90’s -- such a magical time, there was something so unique in the air, so many great memories. Mixtapes, young love, and vibessss!

The second new poster is James latest for Umphrey's McGee from the concert in St Augustine, FL. This illustration is titled "The Magic Crayon".

James on the UM design:
One of my favorite books when I was growing up was “Harold and the Purple Crayon” – remember that?! So good. Anyway, the basic story here is that there’s this magic tree, right at the edge of the ocean – all sorts of special things grow on this tree, like keys and magic crayons.

An explorer has been searching far and wide for this tree, and as he’s traveling with his three dogs, they come upon the tree. He grabs a crayon from the branches and begins to draw in the sky – and what he draws starts swirling and twirling and lighting up the sky, and then it opens up a window that looks out to the wonders of the universe!

All of these posters sold out at both concerts, and so these are the final prints available, including special HoloFoil Variants. They will all be available Wednesday, September 5th at 1pm Eastern at https://www.jamesflames.com/

James Flames Dave Matthews Band Holmdel Poster Release

No comments:

James Flames newest poster for Dave Matthews Band (and his final one for their summer tour) will be available Tuesday.

This is his third poster for Dave and the boys this summer, and with each poster James tried to tell a short story, so that all three of them relate to each other in a really cool way. James is so proud of how this one came out, and so excited to share it with you guys.

James tells the story:
The title of this illustrations is "Finding Love in the Sun Grove Village", and here's the story within the poster:

There once was a village that was built into a series of hills – each hill was a layer resting upon the hill below it, stacks and stacks of hills. And along each hill layer were little homes, built right into the ground. The people who lived there would walk out of their doors and climb the layers of hills until they reached the top, where they tended to their crops and their flowers.

But these weren’t ordinary crops – the trees looked like lemon groves, but they weren’t lemons at all. They were little suns!!

Most of the suns never grew past the size of small fruits, and they were very useful at that size, providing light, energy and health to the village.

But, as the legend goes, when two people fall in love and pick one of the little suns, it grows and grows, until it lifts off into the sky to join the universe. And so here is a scene of two of the villagers who have just fallen madly in love, and are joined by this sun, creating a supernova in the sky above the village.
The poster is 18" x 24" and a Five Color Screen Print.
Artist's Proof Edition of 75, Signed & Numbered.

On sale Tuesday at 3pm EDT at www.jamesflames.com . James also has a new website that looks real nice.

QOTSA Miami Print By James Flames Release

1 comment:

This is James Flames first poster for Queens of The Stone Age and about damn time he did one, for their recent concert in Miami, FL, and he wanted to create a piece of pure, raw power!

This dude is just ripping devastating riffs on the guitar -- the riffs are so furious, they call forth ghosts and the “sonic spirits of the shred”. The spirits shoot out of the guitar, screaming in a symphony of noise! "While My Guitar Fiercely Reaps"

James hand printed these posters with the brightest and most saturated inks -- they feel absolutely electric!

James Flames 311 Day Poster & Art Print Release

No comments:

James Flames will have the last few copies of his official 311-Day print, and its "Moon Lava" HoloFoil variant. The poster illustration is titled "Three Strings, and Eleven Arms to Play Them", his ode to the band on their annual holiday!

"Always Searching, Always Finding"....this piece has had a long journey for James. It started as a poster illustration last year, but he felt like it still had more to say, more for him to explore. So James started this painting again from scratch, and he thinks that now, finally, its story is complete!

There's a magical forest at the dawn of a new day, and a traveler and his trusty canine companion; there are three keys, and three keyholes, each opening the way to new experiences; there's a family of bunnies, curious as can be; and there's the most unlikely doorway, leading to the furthest reaches of forever.

This is a Giclée print,16" x 20", which has been painstakingly proofed and lovingly printed on the finest 290gsm paper (archival, natural, and incredibly sturdy), and it's ready to be a part of your home!

They will all be on sale at 2pm EDT Tuesday at www.jamesflames.com

James Flames Sonic Boom Art Print Release

No comments:

Sonic BOOOOOOM! James Flames just finished printing this new art print, based on the artwork from his recent Foo Fighters poster.

The illustration focuses on this dude and his guitar – he’s plugged-in to the most incredible wall of amplifiers ever seen. He lets it rip! And it’s like he creates a sonic boom that pushes a wave of amplifiers to crest right above him. Just pure rock n' roll power!

James hand-printed these, and went really crazy with the inks and colors on this one, plus he added a few extra special touches and he is really stoked with how it came out.

He also just posted a video showing the entire screen-printing process for this one: click here for the video

James also made a VERY limited HoloFoil Variant, in a small edition of only 6 while the regular has an edition of 92

Everything will be on sale on Tuesday, March 6th at 2pm Eastern at www.jamesflames.com

James Flames moe. Poster Chester Poster Release

No comments:

After a bit of a hiatus, moe. is back! And it was an absolute honor for James Flames to be asked to create the poster for their triumphant 2-night return to the stage at the amazing Capital Theatre in Port Chester, NY this past weekend.

These posters sold out at the shows, so his Artist's copies are the last ones left. They all go up for sale Tuesday the 6th at 2pm Eastern / 11am Pacific.
The illustration is titled "World of moe.", and the concept is centered on this floating planet where musicians come from far and wide to visit and just enjoy the vibes.

At the northern pole of the planet is a giant key, which goes straight through the entire planet. It's the thing that makes the planet hold a unique experience for each of the people who visit -- each group brings their own key, they insert it and turn it, and the party begins!

So one musician is up at the top, and he's in charge of the key. Another musician is already sitting on one of the bridges, working on some chords for a new jam. Another musician is rowing over the magic lake, and two other musicians are rowing over from the last planet they were visiting.

The planet is full of life too: the branches and trunks of the trees can all float apart and fly around for awhile like birds, enjoying the fresh air; the mushrooms do a little dance every time the music plays; and the aforementioned magic lake, where you don't swim IN it, you swim OVER it! -James Flames
These are all Limited Edition Screen-printed posters, including a Regular edition, a "Galactic Diamonds" HoloFoil variant edition and "Space Lava" HoloFoil variant edition. Everything will be available Tuesday, February 6th at 2pm Eastern / 11am Pacific on www.jamesflames.com

James Flames Widespread Panic Atlanta Poster Release

No comments:

James Flames had the extreme pleasure of being asked to create the official poster for Widespread Panic's New Year's Eve shows, which took place at the hallowed Fox Theatre in the band's hometown of Atlanta.

With these shows being so special, James wanted to create an epic scene that encompassed all the best parts of what the experience could be.
The scene takes place in a hidden cave, buried deep in the Earth, under Atlanta. A group of explorers have heard tales of the magical music hidden in this cave, and so they’ve descended into the cave from cables up above, so that they could discover all the wonders inside.

What they’ve found is a place that holds the origins to the Fox Theatre --- carved inside the rocks are intricate patterns resembling Alhambra in Spain (which were actually the inspiration for the carvings and decor of the Fox when it was first built in 1929).

And one of the explorers, as he hangs from the cable mid-air, has found “Mighty Mo”, the fabled pipe organ of the Fox Theatre. He reaches over to press one of the keys... and a sound bursts from the pipes alongside the rocks, and seems to start a chain reaction of musical reverberation inside the cave, which manifests as these blue floating orbs. The mountain dogs that the explorers traveled with start howling, singing along with the sound of Mighty Mo.

Down below, the rest of the explorers are making discoveries of their own. The ground is littered with musical instruments -- drums and cymbals, and guitars that are half buried in the ground, as if it’s a ‘guitar garden’.

But most interesting is the series of magical doorways they have found. It’s New Year’s Eve, after all, and these doorways have opened up portals for the explorers to travel between time itself -- literally walking into a doorway on one side of the year, and walking out of another doorway at the other side of the year! JF
Besides the regular edition screenprint, there are also two exclusive Holofoil Variants also available in limited amounts.

James Flames Almost Famous Movie Poster Release

No comments:

This is James Flames final release of the year, and it's also one of his favorite projects from this past year.
I was approached about a year ago by the fine folks at Bottleneck Gallery in NYC, who had just acquired the license for the classic Cameron Crowe film "Almost Famous", and when they asked me if I wanted to make something special for the film, I was all in.

I wanted to include as many references to the film as possible, so the main illustration is based on the great "de-flowering scene"; but sprinkled throughout the details of the artwork are depictions of the "Golden God" scene (still one of the best ever!), the band Stillwater's song "Fever Dog", and their trusty tour bus. (You can see close up images of these details on my site).

But my favorite reference is to the scene when they're all on the bus singing "Tiny Dancer". What a great moment. And so in the illustration, William is at the edge of the bed, writing in his journal, and perched at either corner of his book are two "Tiny Dancers" -- Penny and Russell -- who are basically his guiding forces through his adventure with the band. - James
There are two versions of this screenprinted poster, a regular edition, and a special "Lava Lamp" holofoil variant. Both are very limited editions -- the original release of these posters by the Bottleneck Gallery sold out right away, and these Artist's Editions are the very last copies of this poster to ever be available.

Everything will be on sale on his website Tuesday, December 5th at 1pm Eastern www.jamesflames.com

James Flames Ween Austin Poster Release

No comments:

Ween! James Flames had so much fun working with these guys again he says and he really got to go all out on this oversize 36" x 24" poster for their shows this past weekend at Stubb's in Austin, TX.

The posters sold out at the shows, so his Artist's copies are the last ones left.

The concept for the artwork is rooted in his two favorite Ween albums, “The Mollusk” and “Chocolate & Cheese”.

The artwork features these two dual figures, and so one side of the Gemini is the “Ocean Man”, and the other side of the Gemini is “Joppa Road”. Each side of the Gemini has manifested themselves into these grand giant beings: the nature of Gener and Deaner themselves. Both of them with eyes wide open, pure magic emanating from inside of them, which joins together in the middle to form one mighty Ween! All hail the Boognish!!

These are all Limited Edition Screen-printed posters, including a Regular edition, a "Circular Wonder" HoloFoil variant edition and "Galactic Windows" HoloFoil variant edition.

Seriously though, those two foils are INSANE! The shapes change and move with every flicker of light. So so cool. Everything will be on sale Tuesday,November 7th at 2pm Eastern at www.jamesflames.com
