"This was actually done as a commission last year using oil on canvas. I take a couple every year and had a lot of fun with this one. Now, I should have the original study laying around here someplace. Overall I would say from start to finish it took somewhere around 20-25 hours to complete. The client I worked with was very open. They liked waterfalls and wanted red included somewhere. Once that seed was planted the rest just came to life on its own." - Joey Remmers

"The Watchers was a part of my Sheep’s Clothing show at Corey Helford gallery in 2011. Much of the show focused on a psychological study that suggests most of our society are sheep, and the 1% of violent criminals are wolves. As the series progressed I played more and more with the idea of placing predator and prey in peculiar, or sometimes metaphorical situations. Hence the foxes and birds." - Joey Remmers

At 19 years old, Joey Remmers began tattooing professionally, which became both his profession and artistic medium for the next ten years. Following his success as a nationally recognized tattoo artist, his focus turned to illustration and painting, exhibiting at galleries including CoproNason, M Modern, Thinkspace Gallery and Corey Helford Gallery. Joey now works as both an illustrator and a private tattoo artist in Orange, CA where he lives with his wife and children.
