John Wentz Icons Prints and Set Release Details

No comments:

On Tuesday John Wentz returns to 1xRUN with a rockin new release of nine prints titled Icons. All 9 prints can be purchased in a set or you can buy individual prints of your favorites. There will be 4 originals for sale as well.

"These pieces started as part of a themed group show at Gauntlet Gallery in San Francisco back in November 2013. The theme was music and musicians, pretty wide open so I wanted to use it as a chance to break away from what I had been doing at the time. I hadn’t done any portraits in awhile, but I didn’t want to just do the standard portrait on canvas thing.

I’ve collected vinyl for years and it just so happened that a friend unloaded a bunch of records on me with the stipulation that not all were good, but I could have the gems in the collection if I took everything. So I was stuck with some bad classical, “Herb Alpert’s Tijuana Brass Band” and stuff like that. One thing lead to another and next thing I know, I am painting portraits on vinyl." - John Wentz

John Wentz Between Light & Shadow Print Release Details

No comments:

John Wentz returns to 1xRUN today with a new print titled Between Light & Shadow that will come in two editions, regular and hand embellished. Plus they have 8 paintings of his for sale as well.

"This piece created in the Spring of 2013 as part of a recent body of work focused on particular aspects of the human condition. I’m really interested in our (humanity’s) penchant for war and destruction. And that’s everything from a bar brawl to gang warfare to all out war. It’s such a strange and fascinating aspect of humanity that doesn’t seem like it can be abated.

But the paintings themselves are meant to view this through a particular lens. What happens when you accept this? The idea that this is just part and parcel to being a human being. There’s a certain beauty in that acceptance…not everything is black and white. That’s where the title came from. That small area, the excluded middle, that often gets overlooked. Yes, the original is for sale here with some other original work from me as well. " - John Wentz

John Wentz The Form Appears Print Release

No comments:

1xRUN are excited to welcome back California artist John Wentz as he joins them for his second RUN with The Form Appears. In addition John Wentz has also brought them 3 small studies along with 3 original paintings from his recent series Spectra.

"This is part of a series I started working on in July of 2012 called Spectra. On these pieces I really wanted to explore color & texture and shy away a bit from formal constraints. I spent a lot of time looking at war photos on the internet, and after awhile, I became interested in this cycle of self destruction that we, as human beings, perpetuate. It kind of made me think of that scene in Stanley Kubrick’s “2001: A Space Odyssey” where the ape discovers that the bone could be used as a weapon. It’s as if as soon as we created tools we started harming each other and, ultimately, ourselves. I just began to wonder if it is something that is part & parcel to being human…part of who we are and it cannot be undone." - John Wentz

The Form Appears is a 18 x 14 Inches Archival Pigment Print on 300gsm Fine Art Paper with a signed and numbered edition of 75

John Wentz Concatenation Hand-Embellished Prints On Sale Today

No comments:

"I usually do multiple studies of a piece before beginning, but with this one I just dove right in. My formats are all custom sizes because I use a specific form of geometry to determine my rectangles. They are hardly ever your basic 18”x24” etc. Once the rectangle was determined I began drawing with oil paint. After the basic drawing I moved big brushes and began layering. This was a very visceral painting for me. The imagery was important as far as fitting into this new series, but I was also very concerned about what the paint was doing. I really wanted to push the mark making of the brush strokes to an almost abstract quality. The piece is about movement…separation and a coming back together. The brushwork had to reinforce that." - John Wentz

The print is 10 x 21 Inches Archival Pigment Print on 330gsm Fine Art Paper with an edition of only 30

Each print in this RUN will be hand-embellished by John Wentz and comes signed, numbered and with a Certificate of Authenticity from John Wentz and 1xRUN.
