Dave Byrne & St. Vincent at The Orpheum Theatre - 10/15/2012
by Alexandra Fischer

I saw them perform on the Colbert Report last week and I was blown away by St. Vincent's beautiful voice.

Details from Alexandra:

"When I got the task of making a David Byrne's poster it made me pause for a moment,
"Better think outside the box or do something different", I thought.
Well… I always wanted to do a silkscreened poster without any black, like some of the turn of the 20 century lithographs.
I had never done that before and this artwork in my opinion just lent itself to that concept. Also, what I really like about the resulting print, is that since there isn't any black overprinting in the poster, you can see the color trapping, which creates a visible, secondary, colored line-work.

The punchy Firehouse metallics of cause give it an amazing modern look ;-)
My drawing, which is adapted from a sketch found in an old german magazine, needed lots of love and attention, before it was able to be brought back to life again in this century. I just loved the concept for David Byrne & St. Vincent,
again, because it's a little weird and it's upside down, as well as beautiful and alluring.

We printed an edition of 150 posters for the show at The Orpheum Theater in San Francisco, CA on October 15th, 2012.
It's silkscreened in 3 colors, at the Hangar 18 in Oakland, CA, and wouldn't have been possible without the gracious and expert work & help of Chuck Sperry.

The poster is 17.25" x 27.75", printed on cougar stock and is #168 in the FHGV series. As always the edition is signed and numbered.

Sleigh Bells at The Warfield Theatre Poster by Alexandra Fischer

No comments:

An edition of 150 posters was printed for the show at The Warfield Theater in San Francisco, CA on April 5th, 2012.
Silkscreened in 4 colors, at the Firehouse Kustom Rockart Co. in Oakland, CA, with the gracious and expert help of Chuck Sperry.
the poster is printed on cougar ca. 100lb stock.
The Poster dimension is 20" x 26"(paper).
This poster is #152 in the FHGV series and the edition is as always signed and numbered.

In terms of inspiration and starting point for this poster:
Sleigh Bells, a rather new band which plays, in my opinion with juxtapositions in their style and their music.
The image of my poster reflect that. Rock meets pop. Beauty meets death. Blue meets Red.
Their record is named "reign of terror", a violent period during the French revolution, which replaced a period of glamor with a period of chaos and death in France. Again these opposites are represented in the hair and the jacket.

There are about 6 variants as well.

Alexandra Fischer Pre-Release - Sharon Jones Poster - Warfield 6/25/10

Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings 6/25/2010
by Alexandra Fischer

An edition of 175 posters was printed for the show at the Warfield Theatre on June 25th. Silkscreened at the Firehouse in Oakland, the poster is printed on embossed gold 10 pt. cover foil stock (but because of the embossed texture it feels thicker, more like a 12 pt). The paper size is 20" x 26" and the image size is 17" x 22". This poster is #105 in the Firehouse/Goldenvoice series and the edition is signed and numbered.

I also put some detailed shots above so you can see the texture coming through the red and how it's creating some nice effects when reflecting.

Price is $50 per poster + $15 for domestic shipping (for every 2 posters).
