John Dunivant The Illusionists' Ball Print On Matte Silver Aluminum

No comments:

John Dunivant the creator of Theatre Bizarre is back with a chilling new print from 1xRUN on Wednesday.

The Illusionists' Ball 12 x 18 Inches Archival Pigment on Matte Silver Aluminum and looks insane in person. Almost like an old tin photograph.

"This was created to set the tone for this past year’s Theatre Bizarre. This then guides the direction of the year and becomes a catalyst for the performances and the stories being told. I was inspired by a series of Victorian era post cards that would use an illusion to manifest a portrait of a skull. This particular skull is a portrait of Zombo the Clown, a wanton god within the mythos of this construct.

It is part of an ongoing story and, more specifically, it was used to establish the theme for Theatre Bizarre 2014 which became The Illusionists’ Ball. Theatre Bizarre is a massive, interactive installation art piece that utilizes 8 floors of the world’s largest Masonic Temple, transforming the space into a universe unto itself. This is one story within that world." - John Dunivant

John Dunivant Margot The Maggot Girl Print On Sale Today

2 comments:

"Margot The Maggot Girl came together in 2007 from sketching up of a few different characters. I was thinking about the baby mutants in jars that old carnies used to display, a lot of the old fetuses that didn't make it. They would have all these weird little mutations sometimes two heads, or no body, some with some seal-like flippers, all these different things. I was talking with one of the troops that we work with, and they would come up with these different names of combination of part animal parts humans, so I was thinking in that world. I thought how all these different babies would live and Margot became one of them. She doesn't quite age. she still has the body of this little girl, but in maggot form. She can't quite grow past that age, so she has this bit of melancholy about her. She used to hang in the arcade down at the original Theatre Bizarre grounds and this last year at the Masonic Temple she's been hanging around the Theatre Bizarre stage. " - John Dunivant

John Dunivant The Unholy Print On Sale Today

No comments:

"The Unholy banner came to life as a bit of a scandalous statement about Theatre Bizarre but was intended to be ambiguous enough that it could describe anything, like the event itself, an upcoming act or whatever your mind may conjure. That also makes it perfect for the bathroom or the bedroom. The original was painted about 5 years ago on stretched canvas and it's about 6 feet wide and 7 feet tall." - John Dunivant

Theatre Bizarre Architect John Dunivant Pays Homage To The Cramps With Human Fly Print On Sale

No comments:
Grown out of his love of roadside attractions, odditoriums, mystery spots and the like, Dunivant is driven to recapture the childhood wonder and danger he felt each summer in the musty corners of those shabby, cinderblock buildings that stand just off of the beaten path.

"The piece was created for said show, the lyrics I chose were "I'm an unzipped fly and I don't know why", "I got 96 tears in my 96 eyes" from "Human Fly" by The Cramps. These Human Fly's have been appearing in my work for a while and are little delinquents. The more-human of the two brothers was always jealous of his sister's ability to fly and all of the attention she received so he enjoyed torturing her. The older brother has his finger hanging out because it's what Lux would do. Or, he'd probably just have his dick out, but I thought this was funnier." - John Dunivant

John Dunivant The Initiation Art Print on sale at 1xRun

No comments:

"The original work came from a series of sketches trying to figure out the tone for Theatre Bizarre last October. There’s a lot of little elements throughout and I get tighter and tighter as I go. The original piece was pen and ink with different pieces of different little sketches, so to me this screenprint feels like more of an original piece of art than the original. Because of getting caught last year there was a big shift in content and context coming from the carnival into this secret society. I wanted to take the iconography that I’d already been using with the carnival but dovetail it more into this world." - John Dunivant Read more and see process photos at the 1xBlog.
