Artist statement:

I chose the marine iguana that clearly stands out as the only lizard on our planet with the ability to live under water and it has so many characteristics that make it unique in the world. This is the main reason I chose it; to make a tribute and aim to raise awareness about its beauty and seek for the preservation of the marine iguana, along all other marine species.

Doing some research about the ancient symbolism of the marine iguana, I stumbled upon the “Itzamná” (Maya) which symbolizes the lizard in the Dresden codex and is very popular in the Yucatecan Mayan culture and it means “Iguana's House.” Itzamná has been identified as “Celestial Monster” in the Mayan art. Thus our contemporary version of this god symbolizes, in this illustration, the rebirth of this animal, which protects us and guides us to find our balance with nature and especially with the oceans and our spirit.

Saner El Brujo Print Release Details

Mexican artist Saner has new print being released by 1xRUN titled El Brujo.

"This piece belongs to a set I have been working on and it’s about how we can decontextualize international icons of the Mexican culture. That’s why I took the classic image of Mickey Mouse. I wanted to reconstruct his face making a personalized adaptation. That’s what happened with 'Halloween' or 'The Day of The Dead' in Mexico and the United States. Both countries re-adopted traditions from different perspectives. 'El Brujo' is a mystical character that can save people from some diseases whether it be physical, emotional or spiritual." - Saner

Saner El Encuentro Print Release

"This piece was created for a release of a book "Farce" which is about narco violence. It tries to explain the utopic war with the government and the cartels. The concept of this piece is to try to explain in a simple form what happens in Mexico. Basically, the idea is a dance, like a ritual for a created lie. This piece highlights the lies the government tells us." - Saner

The print is 17 x 13 Inches 2-Color Letter Press on 250gsm Lennox Fine Art Paper with a signed and numbered edition of 60
