Steven Lopez Butterfly Trap Print Release Details

No comments:

Steven Lopez has another gorgeous new print release with 1xRUN Friday. This one is titled Butterfly Trap.

"This piece is part of my upcoming solo show at Gallery at the Jupiter  in Portland, Oregon. Opening night is October 3rd and my work will be on display October 1st through November 18th. The original is painted on canvas with Nova Color acrylic paint. The under painting was applied by brush with coarse textures executed by palette knife.

I’ve been exploring the monarch butterfly pattern on my portraits and while I enjoyed that aspect I wanted to understand how I could use it in other situations. I first drew the figure in my sketchbook while looking at the muse. I liked the flow of the drawing and pondered how I could use it in a painting. A few days later I came up with the idea while listening to Jamiroquai’s, Butterfly. This was the first time I added distress to the derrière.

The under painting was applied by brush with coarse textures executed by palette knife. Under painting has been a big focal point for me. It’s helped me understand how to trap light and distinguish shadows with greater dexterity. A new door has opened which makes me feel like I’m learning all over again." - Steven Lopez

On sale Friday at NOON EDT over at 1xRUN.com I think this is a trap you should fall for.

Steven Lopez Greet Them With Fire Print Release Details

No comments:

Los Angeles artist Steven Lopez makes his first appearance on 1xRUN today with a great looking print titled Greet Them With Fire. Cool looking print hope we see more of his work in future at 1xRUN.

"This studio painting was part of my solo show at Gauntlet Gallery this year. I feel this piece culminates my exercises in lighting and texture. The elephant was really fun to work with. Especially when I embellished him with Quetzal type feathers. That's why this painting has emotional attachment to me. It combines a story of adversity along with my penchant to push my artistic boundaries.

I've had a few scrapes and bruises over the years to help with the idea. It started out as a conversation with myself that I had over and over again. This helped me understand the possibilities of that conversation and how to relay it visually. If I showed you the first sketch you'd laugh if you didn't know what the final draft looked like. But that's how it started. drawing and redrawing a many times over until it felt right." - Steven Lopez

Along with the print they will have 4 original paintings and 2 drawings on sale as well. They all go on sale at NOON EDT Wednesday at 1xRUN.com
