Tom Bagshaw The Binding Art Print

British artist Tom Bagshaw is back with The Binding, dropping his latest print to coincide with the 1xRUN 2018 Halloween Print Suite! Drawing inspiration from Bagshaw's ongoing Dark Kingdom series, this piece was created specifically for 1xRUN as part of this year's Halloween celebration. One of Bagshaw's more challenging pieces, The Binding began on his Patreon page, with fans seeing first look process shots, ideation and more in a behind the scenes look. The print is a 16 x 20 Inches Archival Pigment Print on 290gsm Moab Fine Art Paper with a signed & numbered edition of 60.

"I really love the colour palette in this piece, I've done a few monochromatic pieces over the years, but this one was originally intended to be in full colour. I started adding what I thought would be the final colours in and after awhile I ditched it, bringing it back to a more subdued scheme which worked far better.

'The Binding' was a response to two early pieces in my Dark Kingdom series -- The Summoning and The Summoning-Envoy -- the connection between the two planes of existence. This piece is related to my Dark Kingdom series of works, but not actually part of it, I want to be able to do works outside of the project, some like this -- that are linked in some way but others that are completely separate. It gives me a chance to work themed shows or really anything that takes my fancy!" - Tom Bagshaw

Tom Bagshaw Fecund Print Release from 1xRUN

1xRUN has Tom Bagshaw once again today with a slightly creepy print titled Fecund. I'll admit it I had to look up the word Fecund, it means producing or capable of producing an abundance of offspring or new growth; fertile.

"This was one of those few and far between pieces where the image arrives in your head pretty much fully formed (it doesn't happen to me often!), the idea of a strawberry skinned girl, licking her hand where she was bruised or cut, a very cannibalistic image really, but with a more suggestive edge.

I came really close to naming her Christine after the Siouxsie & the Banshees song but that wasn't actually the idea behind the piece so stayed away from it. Because I had such a clear image in mind, when it came to shooting some reference images, I think it took all of 5 mins with the lovely model who must've thought it was the fastest job ever!" - Tom Bagshaw

Tom Bagshaw Lullaby Print Release

1xRUN has Tom Bagshaw back today with a perfectly creepy print titled Lullaby and I really dig this one.

"After getting the show theme I scribbled down a few notes about the vaguest stuff I could think of and then the general idea popped into my head, it was then just a case of doing some rough thumbnails to establish a proper composition but more importantly, the colour theme - before moving on to paint at higher resolution.

The main thing I wanted to to convey was the motherly aspect but it was the colour that was a little tricky, I ended up going with warmer colours than usual which helped to give a more 'creamy' appearance - almost warming the piece up to give a feeling of being 'off' somehow." - Tom Bagshaw

"This piece was initially a concept about prophecy/divination and evolved into a piece that combined a variety of religious symbolism with feminine beauty. The title was in part a reference to the Greek legend of Cassandra, who was 'gifted' with prophecy but obviously her story isn't exactly a pleasant one! "I wanted to do something about life and rebirth and after some scribbles came to a seasonal angle on the subject. The main focus was the ghost / spirit of the flower being 'contained' or held by the female character while the plant itself turned to ice, it grew from there really." - Tom Bagshaw

"It was created specifically for the Literal Eyes show at London Miles gallery, the show's theme was to pay homage to historical paintings that had been a personal inspiration. The only stipulation was that it should be a piece created before the WWII. I chose to do Dante Gabriel Rossetti's 'Pandora'. I saw the final painting first but it was one of his chalk drawings he produced that I really favoured. I saw this piece in an art history book when i was a child and really helped shape my love of figurative works and introduced me to the works of the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood." - Tom Bagshaw

Tom Bagshaw All The Devils Print On Sale Today

 "I was approached by the group PornSaints to produce a piece and was introduced to a model/performer Lila Night, then I produced the painting from there. I took the line 'Hell is empty and all the devils are here' from Shakepeare's 'The Tempest' and it kinda grew from there." - Tom Bagshaw

For his personal work Tom Bagshaw has developed a highly rendered digital painting style through which he explores themes of fantasy, beauty and mysticism. 'Yokai Dreams' is his first series created for a solo show and it masterfully demonstrates all the key qualities of his work which, while dealing with very imaginative content, aims for a strong level of realism in its presentation.

The darker, creepy elements in Bagshaw's paintings are often balanced out with quirky or humorous details which are charming for the viewer to discover. While feminine beauty plays a large role in his work, the women he depicts are never frail damsels in distress. More often than not they're strong, intriguing characters, with an air of mystery to them.

Though much of his reputation was gained through commercial work it is Yokai Dreams - his first exhibition - that marks his graduation from successful illustrator to highly-skilled, original and intriguing fine artist.
