Free Friday Poster Giveaway Featuring CHUCK SPERRY. The OCCUPY Edition

158 comments:
What we've got here is failure to communicate. Some men just can't be reached. Since its inception in September 2011, the Occupy Movement has generated both praise and condemnation. A direct response to the financial instability, subprime mortgage crisis and the decline of trust in the government’s ability to effectively address the problems in the labor market, it continues to resonate in the American consciousness. In response to the significant output of art and documentation produced in support of the Occupy Movement in Oakland and San Francisco, YBCA has put together an exhibition of works that have proven to be particularly effective in supporting the goals and aspirations of the Movement. Impressively, various political poster artists devoted their talents to messaging the politics and culture of the movement by creating iconic images — designs that were a call to action, or posters announcing an upcoming event. In many ways these works, by twenty-five Bay Area artists, carry forward the region’s long tradition as a leader in political struggles, from the Free Speech Movement of the 1960s, to struggles by communities of color in the 1970s, to AIDS activism in the 1980s. The exhibition also includes a selection of photo journalistic and documentary photography and video that serve as a record of the events around the Occupy Movement.

To learn more and see the schedule GO HERE

In support of this effort and to spread the word Chuck Sperry is giving you my fine readers the chance to win 9 of his Occupy Posters. That's right 9 people will win the poster and one lucky random person will win his beautiful Mind Spring Poster along with the Occupy Poster. We did have the idea of giving away 99 of them to represent the 99%, but that was going to be very difficult.

The Mind Spring poster is an edition of 50 22 x 28 6 color silkscreen

Now go to the top of the post above the picture and click on comments to leave a comment about what you think should be done to make things better to have a chance at winning the poster. Don't worry if your comment does not appear immediately I have to approve them before they are published. I will use the random number generator to pick a winner. Entries are limited to ONE PER PERSON PER HOUSEHOLD. Please leave your name with the comment, comments without names will not be accepted. Entries will be accepted until midnight PDT Saturday July 21  that's two days to enter with the winner announced on Sunday.

Since some people can't read instructions if you leave more than one comment I will be deleting them all and you will have to do it again, meaning if Sally leaves 3 comments I will delete them all and she will have to do it again. ONE comment per person. It's not that hard, we're not saving lives here just giving away a poster.

Thank you to Chuck Sperry for providing an insane amount of posters for the giveaway and for supporting the Occupy Movement

Viracocha

998 Valencia Street (at 21st Street)

San Francisco, CA

Course Description:

The Free University Art School is very proud to present Jon-Paul Bail prolific Bay Area artist who uses the streets of the world as his canvas. Since last year’s brilliant presentation – street action / wheat paste demonstration - at the Free University, Jon-Paul Bail has been extremely active making a series of “Hella Occupy” posters for the Occupy movement across the length and breadth of California. Based in the East Bay, “JP” set up a print station on site at Oscar Grant Plaza and the heart of the Occupy Oakland movement in the first days people gathered there. He began producing thousands of posters which have become iconographic to this historical event. As the movement spread and touched similar gatherings and actions across California, “JP” travelled and set up his mobile propaganda studio, printing at Occupy Oakland, UC Berkeley, UC Davis, and Occupy San Francisco. Jon-Paul discusses his motivations, methods and will bring our art class to a live on-site, print-making session at the Occupy Education action scheduled for March 1st – location to be disclosed later. Chuck Sperry and Jon-Paul Bail are collaborating on a poster design which will be printed in quantity in the class, and later printed live at the Occupy Education demonstration scheduled for March 1, 2012.

New Print from LifeVersa Where Is The Love Balloon on sale details

No comments:

LifeVersa is back with another great print. This one is titled Where Is The Love Balloon and it is 18"x24" hand pulled screen print. Comes in an edition of 60 and cost $25. It will go one sale Wednesday November 2. I really like the style of these prints he has done.

His original plan was to release all five screen prints he had from the "Grandpa's Bedtime Stories" series. But due to the current state of affairs, he was inspired to put that plan on hold for the moment. This print is a commentary on the global economic crisis and the current uprising taken place right now all over the world. Due to his job, LifeVersa cannot go to an Occupy Wall Street rally, so here is his printed support of the movement.

Wet House #OccupyWallStreet Shirt from 1xRun

No comments:

"Our world economy is crumbling all around us while filthy rich dickwads sit back toasting Kristal while buying insanely expensive hookers and doing massive amounts of cocaine. Yeah, so we're jealous. Big deal. At Wet House we always say, if you can't join 'em, beat 'em. So, put this print up on the wall in your expensive Manhattan loft style apartment and send a strong message to all your well-to-do friends.

We put this print on shirts to start with, and honest to god went in to Subway and got a free sandwich because they were happy we decided to say what everyone has been thinking for a while.

We were once told this was offensive by a rich guy, but we're pretty certain that statistically speaking, 99% of you will agree with us on this one: fuck rich people.

**We've already sent 40 off to wall street, and with the purchase of each print, we'll be shipping off two more shirts to the protesters on wall street."
