" This was one of my earliest conceptions as an artist that was originally created as a painting in 1992 in a series of works depicting how the mouse might eventually die. In 2007 I wanted to create an animation of this piece and spent a good two weeks doing so. This image is a still of the final frame of that animation with some lighting alterations. The original painting was sold to an anonymous art director at Disney studios. This was also my very first manipulation of a recognizable character." - Jason Freeny

Tomorrow very soon on FRIDAY, April 26,  starting at 12:01AM PDT, Alex Pardee will be re-releasing one of his popular sold-out prints as an all new Limited Edition "REMIX" print, and it will ONLY BE AVAILABLE TO PURCHASE AT ZEROFRIENDS (Both Online & In their Retail Store) FOR ONLY 24 HOURS! After the 24 hour period, they will NEVER sell this print in this version again.
The new print is a remix of his "Dying of Thirst" print, now, given new life, aptly titled "NO LONGER DYING WITH THIRST"

James Flames Lost Locke Print for The Official Bad Robot Art Experience Gallery Show World Premier Exclusive

Without a doubt one of the greatest villains in TV history is Locke from the series Lost. James Flames chose him as the subject of his print titled "Two Players. Two Sides. One is Light. One is Dark." for the Official Bad Robot Art Experience Show

I interviewed James about the creation of the print and he said the print plays on the duality of good & bad through the light and dark stones that keep appearing in the story line. If you remember on the beach Locke taught Walt about Backgammon, Jacob and The Man in Black played as children as well and the game turned up several more times through the series.  Light and Dark stones were also found by Locke in the cave with Sawyer. Locke leads Sawyer to a cave, inside of which is a set of scales holding one black and one white stone. Locke takes the white stone and throws it into the sea, referring to it as an inside joke. Locke leads Sawyer deeper into the cave, where there are several surnames written on the ceiling and walls.

James carried the idea through into the making of the print also. The regular print is on Midnight Blue Paper (Dark) and it also glows in the dark (Light)

The regular edition and variant are both 18 x 24 inches. The regular edition is a 7 color screen print including glow in the dark ink with an edition of only 100. The variant is 3 colors including glow in the dark ink with an edition of only 5.

Darin Shock Not Penny's Boat The Official Bad Robot Art Experience

Tomorrow is the opening of Gallery1988's The Official Bad Robot Art Experience group art show at in Los Angeles. Featuring a collection of artwork inspired by the films and TV shows of writer, producer and director J.J. Abrams and his Bad Robot production company. The show’s opening reception is Friday, April 26, 2013 from 7 PM to 10 PM at Gallery1988′s new location (7308 Melrose Avenue) and will run until Saturday, May 18th. Proceeds from the art show will be benefiting The Mission Continues charity, who helps inspire military veterans to become community leaders.

Darin Shock is back with another incredible mixed media sculpture.  It's entitled "Not Penny's Boat" the piece is 20x20" in size and is inspired by Lost.

This is my contribution to the official Bad Robot art show at Gallery 1988. The production company, started by JJ Abrams, is responsible for several shows and films from Lost to Fringe to Super 8 and the latest Star Trek movies. I chose to be a part of this show simply because I am a huge, huge fan of Lost.
To be honest, it's not typical of me to get into any major network show, much less a drama. I find most to be cliche, predictable, geared towards the middle and therefore not worth investing my time. A few years back I found myself flipping through the many options of instant Netflix and (not being sold on anything) I decided to give Lost a try. Knew very little about it...certainly didn't expect much. 42 minutes later I found myself itching, feeling cold, and needing more! What ensued was an unhealthy adventure into what can only be described as binge television. Despite the unavoidable cheese and limitations of a major network show, the writing and execution of Lost is simply astonishing. I had to know what the hell was going on in this world but unfortunately also required sleep. Several weeks and 6 seasons of over 120 hours later, I had my answers...well mostly. Despite some rush jobs to explain things during the final season, I absolutely love love love the final episode. The writers took a lot of heat as others hated it. I refer to it as one of my favorite endings ever. It was the definition of bittersweet and a perfect ending to a great show in my opinion.
This is a depiction of the scene (at the end of season 3) where Charlie is SPOILER...about to die and still has the insight and will to convey an important message to try to save his fellow passengers. It, like several other moments in this show, was an impactful scene that I thought about for a while. It was a lot of fun doing a piece that was inspired by something so inspiring! Now if I could just get that damn Drive Shaft song out of my head!

Sadly the ham fisted donkeys at Fedex damaged it during shipment to the gallery and it wont be on display. Hope they pay Darin the insurance money for such an outstanding piece of work.

Willie Nelson Austin Poster by Darcy J. Watt Release Details

I have spoken at various times about my appreciation of artists who get their hands dirty and create work the old fashion way. Not taking the easy way but really creating art. Working on something that really makes a statement by showing their love and dedication to the process and finally the art it self. When I first saw this poster by Darcy J Watt I was impressed, then after seeing how he created it, the respect grew even more. I may not be a Willie Nelson fan but this is one beautiful piece of work.

This 18″x24″, four color, screen printed gig poster was created for The Backyard (Austin, TX) and Willie Nelson’s 80th birthday show held there on April 28th, 2013.

Once drawn and inked, the design was transferred to birch plywood and hand carved as a woodcut relief print. After turning the carved and inked wood block through his traditional etching press the resulting impression was scanned, digitally colored and prepped for printing. The edition was limited to only 150 prints which were screen printed by Ben LaFond of Burlesque of North America. Each poster is signed and numbered in pencil on the front.

Willie Nelson has announced this show will be held as a benefit concert for West, TX after its fertilizer plant explosion. A good portion of online poster sales will also be donated to the victims

"This piece was created specifically for a print. I started the piece in late 2012 and finished in early 2013. I have always loved pop art, so I created my own take on the genre. I thought it would interesting to use an icon like Marilyn Monroe, but strip away some of her facade to reveal her skeleton. Hence the name Norma, which is Marilyn's real name. This piece took me roughly 3 months working on and off and features excerpts from the FBI surveillance file on Miss. Monroe, along with her lovely skeleton." - Anthony Cozzi

Shepard Fairey & Gary Baseman Partisan Print Release Details

History comes alive in Partisan, a dynamic collaboration between Shepard Fairey and Gary Baseman, featuring Ben Baseman – a freedom fighter who fought in the woods of Poland for over three years during World War II. Ben Baseman survived the mass murders that took place in 1941-42 in cities across Eastern Europe, including his hometown of Berezne. After losing his parents and many loved ones, he fought for freedom and miraculously survived. Ben Baseman lived to the age of 93, having raised four children in the Fairfax district of Los Angeles that includes the artist Gary Baseman.

Gary Baseman is a friend and after years of mutual artistic admiration we finally collaborated on an image in honor of his father. I’m very happy with how it turned out. We both signed them and they will be available at Gary’s Skirball Museum show.

Spoke Art Scorsese Show Online Sale Details
