Jim “Taz” Evans Kaboo Festival Poster World Premiere

No comments:

Jim “Taz” Evans once again collaborated with the KAABOO Festival to create the official poster for the Del Mar show this coming weekend. Just down the freeway from his studio in Malibu, and the area where he grew up and surfed, it was a natural fit. The poster features a hallucinogenic date palm, bathed in a psychedelic glow, and floating in a color palette devised by Taz and Risk. It is surrounded by neo-Hokusai waves, pinstripe hot rod flames, and a chrome medallion that embraces the KAABOO state of mind. It was printed by the amazing team at Sugar Press. The regular edition of 100 signed and numbered prints will be sold at the KAABOO merchandise booth.

Risk and Taz also did 12 hand-embellished pieces that will be available on a first come, first served basis at the Sugar Press Gallery booth.

Nine Inch Nails Los Angeles Poster by Brad Klausen World Premiere

No comments:

One of the biggest surprises this year may have been posters for the Nine Inch Nails tour. Not just any posters but some incredible posters (yes there were a couple of duds) by artists that were thrilled to cross them off their bucket list.

Nine Inch Nails are wrapping up Cold And Black And Infinite tour with 6 shows in Los Angeles and for tonight's show it is my pleasure to debut Brad Klausen's poster. Having seen them twice on this tour, I can saw he captures the feeling perfectly as the music rages through your brain and makes you tingle.

There will be a foil edition as well. The text on the bottom in red does not appear on the actual poster, just trying to fight the shirt bootleggers in Asia. Brad will have his copies on sale soon, stay tuned.

The Great Escape Print By Jack Gregory Release Exclusive

No comments:

When I was growing we had the 4:00 Movie. The movies they showed were centered around a theme being genre or actor and it was through these movies I discovered Steve McQueen and what cool really was all about. So I am very happy to reveal exclusively to you this incredible poster by Jack Gregory for the 1963 classic The Great Escape. Thank you to Alex from FAMP Art for letting me reveal it also it means a lot and happy to see the movie have such a fine piece of art. The poster is really incredible and if you have never seen the film you really should.

I asked Alex what made him chose the Great Escape and Jack as the artist (I had a good idea why, I had seen Jack's work on the Mad Max 2 Road Warrior poster he did and the way  he captures motion is crazy) ?
I chose the Great Escape because it’s one of my favorite films of all time. My dad introduced it to me as a kid and since that day it still remains one of the most exciting and carefully constructed adventure dramas I’ve seen. It just holds up so damn well and is one of those films I always try and get people to see. It’s harder to convince people to go back and watch a classic when there’s so many other amazing new films being released.

As for choosing Jack, I had saw the development and final poster he made for Mad Max 2 and was blown away. There’s was a palpable energy released from that poster that made me think he could crush anything adventure oriented. Since the original one-sheet for The Great Escape captures that same excitement, I knew Jack would be the right guy to illustrate an alternative take for it, especially since we could put Steve Mcqueen front and center.
I talked with Jack and asked him to give us the Inside scoop on the poster and his work:
When FAMP Art approached me with this gig they informed me that we had the likeness rights of Steve McQueen and only Steve McQueen. Clearly, I was not going to paint a portrait of him, slap in a title treatment and call it a day. I decided to focus on a composition that brought Steve to life in an augmented setting. The most action packed sequence in the film, in my opinion, is Steve's motorcycle jump, but I had reservations illustrating this scene due to the number of times it's been used before. After some brainstorming I decided to incorporate the title of the film into the composition. I kept the palette muted to give it a vintage feel and added the gun blasts and soldiers to add more intensity.

I try to approach every assignment in a different way. My illustration influences are all over the map. Everything from Howard Pyle to Paul Pope.
I am very grateful to Alex from FAMP Art for this opportunity and to VG Kids for their stellar print work.

Since its launch, FAMP Art’s mission was to give some of the most iconic films a worthy screen-printed makeover. One such film that was always on their radar was John Sturges’ Oscar ® nominated adventure drama, The Great Escape.

The Great Escape is hailed as one of the best prison movies of all-time and is certainly one of FAMP's personal favorites. As the guys from FAMP's parents’ favorite film growing up, The Great Escape features an ensemble cast comprised of Richard Attenborough, James Garner, Charles Bronson, James Coburn and, most notably, the King of Cool aka Steve McQueen.

In order to capture the scope of the original one-sheet and highlight one of the most iconic moments of the film, they recruited the incredibly talented illustrator Jack C. Gregory to tackle their passion project. When FAMP made Jack aware of our undying love for the film, he knew the pressure was on to deliver and he absolutely did.

Jack managed to fuse all the best elements of the film into one explosive image. Building the title into the prison compound and using that to show off not only just the daring escape but also Steve McQueen’s climactic motorcycle chase.

Artist: Jack C. Gregory
Size: 36"x24”
Edition: 90 Hand-Numbered
Eight color Screen Print
Cost: $50.00
Printed by: VGKids

With that being said, FAMP Art is honored to have this officially licensed poster for The Great Escape which will go on sale March 7th at 12pm EST via their website www.FAMPArt.com.

As a bonus, for everyone that purchases a Great Escape poster, you will receive a $5 off coupon via email for all other posters in the shop. Coupon applies to all prints except The Great Escape and it will be emailed within 2-5 business days.

Visit http://www.pangeaseed.org/ to learn more and help save our oceans!

Artist statement:
When pondering our relationship to the world and its oceans, I often find myself thinking of our connection to nature, which is a force that encompasses us, preceded us, and will succeed us whether we acknowledge our mortality in its face or not. As a living fossil and scavenger that has gone unaltered by evolution for nearly 500 million years, the mysterious nautilus represents these abstract ideas, though it is often hunted by humans for its ornamental shell, leading to calls for protections and regulation to prevent endangerment in modern times.

My piece “Nautilus Grave” ambiguously flips this callous and common narrative, portraying the alien but genteel nautili as dominant entities in relation to the human visitors depicted, symbolizing mindful deference to (rather than thoughtless exploitation of) these fascinating creatures and the realms in which they thrive.

Miles Tsang Ryan Adams Los Angeles Poster Variants World Premiere Exclusive

1 comment:

Miles Tsang did the poster for Ryan Adams concert at the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles on June 3 and it is my pleasure to debut the variants so you guys get to see them first.  I'm still blown away with every new poster Miles creates.

Details from Miles on the design:
The illustration is loosely inspired by the song Doomsday off of the new album/tour and combines my style of psychedelic figurative illustration with his deep interest in pinball as well as our mutual love of cats. And since Mr. Adams is also associated with The Grateful Dead, I threw a hidden glow in the dark skeleton layer in for good measure (all prints including variants have this feature).
All the posters are 12.5"x24" screenprints.
All editions (Artist Proofs, cool variant "Shiver And Shake", and warm variant "Ashes & Fire") have a run of 50 and are signed and numbered.
Regular AP's will be $50 +S&H and the variants will be $55 USD+S&H.

Posters go on sale Tuesday June 6th at Noon EDT at www.milestsang.com

Jim Evans / TAZ Band of Horses Milwaukee And Madison Poster Exclusive

No comments:

UNLEASH THE DOGS

Band Of Horses are landing in Wisconsin tonight at Eagles Ballroom, then again Sunday night at the Orpheum Theater in Madison. Both shows will have a limited number of these “Unleash The Dogs” posters by Jim Evans / TAZ to commemorate both events.

The size of the poster is 18x24, and it’s a 4-color silkscreen featuring two split fountains. It is printed on #100 Cougar paper. Jim will have 40 signed and numbered pieces to sell through Limited Runs www.limitedruns.com and his new upcoming TAZ store.

Jim had this to say about the poster:
This is the second poster in a row I’ve done for Band Of Horses. I love to do work for them because it gives me a chance to get away from my more comfortable output of psychedelic sci-fi robots, androids, aliens, and general insanity, for something more grounded in American symbolism. Unleash the dogs seems like a much more apt metaphor for current events than it did when I finished it a month ago.

Jim Evans / TAZ Bad Religion Hollywood Poster World Premier Exclusive

No comments:

Bad Religion, Against Me!, And Dave Hause rip the Hollywood Palladium to shreds, and Jim Evans / TAZ was invited by the band to revisit some of their past glories together for this one night event happening Friday in Hollywood, CA.

The size of the poster is 24 x 18, and it is horizontal instead of the usual vertical format. It’s an 8-color silkscreen and it is printed on #100 Cougar paper. There will be 100 signed and numbered pieces.

TAZ and Bad Religion have a long history, starting with the Goldenvoice ’93 Bad Religion, Green Day, Rancid show at the Palladium. Bad Religion is a great band that likes challenging poster art and pushes artists to their limits trying to come up with something weirder every time – this Bad Religion poster definitely fits into the more psycho end of the spectrum. Bad Religion…infects your mind and body.

This beauty will be on sale soon at www.limitedruns.com and the new TAZ outlet that is being crafted at this very moment.

Jim Evans TAZ Band of Horses Austin Poster World Premiere Exclusive

No comments:

SCREAMING EAGLE OVER AUSTIN!

Band of Horses will be at Stubb’s legendary Waller Creek Amphitheatre tonight, and will have a limited number of these new posters by Jim Evans / TAZ to commemorate the event.

The size of the poster is 18x24, and it’s a 4-color silkscreen featuring a split fountain, it is printed on #100 Cougar paper. Jim will have 40 signed and numbered pieces to sell through Limited Runs www.limitedruns.com

Even though he lives in Malibu, Jim loves Texas, and had this to say about the poster:
I’ve listened to Band of Horses forever, and when Paul over at Firebrand Live asked me to do a poster for their Austin slot I couldn’t resist. On this one I tried to eliminate symmetry for pure design, and I’ve been dying to do an eagle in flight. Band of Horse is a band that reminds me of Americana, and the nostalgic freedom of the past with a detour into psychedelia. For me, the music of Band of Horses and a place like Austin is just that, the scream of an eagle about to strike. I wish I were there tonight.

The Magnificent Seven Poster And Steve McQueen Print by Chris Skinner World Premiere Exclusive

No comments:

Growing up when I did, the only way to see old movies was the 4 O'clock movie that was on every afternoon during the week. That is how I came to love the work of the King of Cool, Steve McQueen. If one of his movies was on I made sure I got home so I could see it no matter what my friends wanted to do. In a lot of his movies a car or motorcycle literally became an extension of him, allowing for some of the greatest cinematic moments ever captured on film and filling the head of boy with all sorts of ideas. But his influence wasn't just with machines, one of his greatest movies The Magnificent Seven had four legged horsepower. As a young boy if I was going to be like Steve McQueen I could ride a horse and still pretend better than making my bike a motorcycle.

My love of Steve McQueen movies and his accomplishments grew over the years. And so
it really is an honor and privilege to debut the poster and handbill for The Magnificent Seven, thank you to the folks at FampArt for letting me do it.

A favorite among westerns, John Sturges’ The Magnificent Seven is one of the few re-imagined films that has managed to stand the test of time. With an ensemble cast featuring the likes of Steve McQueen, Yul Brynner, Charles Bronson, and James Coburn, it’s no wonder why the film holds a special place in the hearts of those who love the westerns of yesteryear.

To coincide with the recent release of Antoine Fuqua’s remake of the same name, we will be releasing a new, officially licensed, limited edition screen print for the 1960 classic, The Magnificent Seven, by the talented artist Chris Skinner.

Chris’ beautifully rendered poster is an eight color screen print that will be printed on Madero Beach Speckletonepaper, giving the entire poster a true western vibe. The poster is a landscape style print that focuses on the exciting climax of the film. The combination of its painted look, blended typography, and dynamic action make it a truly excellent and unique movie poster for the film and a must-have for any fan of the genre.

As a bonus, FampArt are releasing a limited edition character handbill of Steve McQueen’s Vin Tanner character from the film, which is officially licensed by the Steve McQueen Estate. Steve McQueen was one of the real highlights of The Magnificent Seven and they thought a character handbill would be the perfect complement to the ensemble based poster.

Both the poster and handbill will go on sale Wednesday, October 5th at 12pm EST via the FAMP Art website www.FAMPArt.com.
