Growing up when I did, the only way to see old movies was the 4 O'clock movie that was on every afternoon during the week. That is how I came to love the work of the King of Cool, Steve McQueen. If one of his movies was on I made sure I got home so I could see it no matter what my friends wanted to do. In a lot of his movies a car or motorcycle literally became an extension of him, allowing for some of the greatest cinematic moments ever captured on film and filling the head of boy with all sorts of ideas. But his influence wasn't just with machines, one of his greatest movies The Magnificent Seven had four legged horsepower. As a young boy if I was going to be like Steve McQueen I could ride a horse and still pretend better than making my bike a motorcycle.
My love of Steve McQueen movies and his accomplishments grew over the years. And so
it really is an honor and privilege to debut the poster and handbill for The Magnificent Seven, thank you to the folks at FampArt for letting me do it.
A favorite among westerns, John Sturges’ The Magnificent Seven is one of the few re-imagined films that has managed to stand the test of time. With an ensemble cast featuring the likes of Steve McQueen, Yul Brynner, Charles Bronson, and James Coburn, it’s no wonder why the film holds a special place in the hearts of those who love the westerns of yesteryear.
To coincide with the recent release of Antoine Fuqua’s remake of the same name, we will be releasing a new, officially licensed, limited edition screen print for the 1960 classic, The Magnificent Seven, by the talented artist Chris Skinner.
Chris’ beautifully rendered poster is an eight color screen print that will be printed on Madero Beach Speckletonepaper, giving the entire poster a true western vibe. The poster is a landscape style print that focuses on the exciting climax of the film. The combination of its painted look, blended typography, and dynamic action make it a truly excellent and unique movie poster for the film and a must-have for any fan of the genre.
As a bonus, FampArt are releasing a limited edition character handbill of Steve McQueen’s Vin Tanner character from the film, which is officially licensed by the Steve McQueen Estate. Steve McQueen was one of the real highlights of The Magnificent Seven and they thought a character handbill would be the perfect complement to the ensemble based poster.
Both the poster and handbill will go on sale Wednesday, October 5th at 12pm EST via the FAMP Art website www.FAMPArt.com.
