Jim “Taz” Evans Kaboo Festival Poster World Premiere

No comments:

Jim “Taz” Evans once again collaborated with the KAABOO Festival to create the official poster for the Del Mar show this coming weekend. Just down the freeway from his studio in Malibu, and the area where he grew up and surfed, it was a natural fit. The poster features a hallucinogenic date palm, bathed in a psychedelic glow, and floating in a color palette devised by Taz and Risk. It is surrounded by neo-Hokusai waves, pinstripe hot rod flames, and a chrome medallion that embraces the KAABOO state of mind. It was printed by the amazing team at Sugar Press. The regular edition of 100 signed and numbered prints will be sold at the KAABOO merchandise booth.

Risk and Taz also did 12 hand-embellished pieces that will be available on a first come, first served basis at the Sugar Press Gallery booth.

Jim Evans Kaaboo Festival Poster & Johnny Rotten Print

No comments:

Jim Evans aka TAZ worked with the Kaaboo Festival to create a unique one-of-a-kind piece for this weekends epic show at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington Texas. TAZ is a big fan of Texas, and slapped his logo on a silhouette of the state, along with the Dallas Cowboys star and a tattooed longhorn steer. A little different than his normal work, the design is bathed in blended psychedelic colors to accommodate the unique Kaaboo logo. Printed at Kelly Graval’s legendary Risk Rock Studio (they are neighbors), the poster will be available starting tomorrow and going through the weekend at Kaaboo. Risk and TAZ also did 10 hand embellished pieces that will get snapped up on a first come first served basis. Kid Rock and Lynyrd Skynyrd, back to back, in Texas? That is worth it alone.

The 1 of 100 poster prints will be available at the Kaaboo Merchandise booth, and the TAZ x RISK 1 of 10 hand-embellished pieces will be at the WAAS Gallery booth.

Plus he has another print as well, the one featuring Johnny Rotten of the Sex Pistols.

The spirit of punk lives on in this print by Jim Evans aka TAZ, capturing the spirit of ’76. Working in collaboration with legendary photographer Dennis Morris, TAZ took Dennis’ original photo of Johnny Rotten singing, and transformed it to make a fresh statement. Urban rubble and an empire in tatters are imbued with an updated color palette based on the artistic engagement between TAZ and Dennis, revealing a psychedelic multi-layered print. The print will be available at the KAABOO festival in Arlington Texas this weekend at the Sugar Press booth, and there are only a few, very rare indeed.

TAZ Risk Dennis Morris Pop Art Photo Show Prints

No comments:

TAZ aka Jim Evans thought if any of you are in near the Santa Monica area this weekend, you can go to the Barker Hanger, to see this show https://www.popartphotoshow.com and pick up a print you can also buy tickets to the show on the website.

Lot of fun stuff including two small editions that feature TAZ, Kelly Graval aka RISK, and Dennis Morris (legendary Bob Marley and Sex Pistols photographer and Shepard Fairey collaborator).

The establishment has lost its way, and the youth are gaining control, sound familiar? The spirit of punk is alive again, and this print by Jim Evans aka TAZ captures the spirit of ’76. Working in collaboration with legendary photographer Dennis Morris, Evans took Dennis’ original photo from ground zero of the Sex Pistols punk explosion and transformed it to make a fresh statement. Urban rubble and an empire in tatters are imbued with an updated color palette based on the artistic engagement between TAZ and artist RISK, revealing a psychedelic multi-layered print. The final print was made and signed at Risk Rock Studios will be available in a very limited quantity.

When Legalize It by Peter Tosh was released it had a huge cultural impact, the packaging, the music, and of course, Peter himself. Photo legend Dennis Morris was there at the time and captured a series of images that show Peter at that seminal time. Jim Evans aka TAZ has collaborated with Dennis to create a unique piece that tries to capture the spirit of the original shot while updating it with an impressionistic take on color and design. Dennis’ iconic shot now becomes something more symbolic, with color that evokes the artistic collaboration between TAZ and the artist RISK. The final print was made and signed at Risk Rock Studios and will be available in a very limited quantity.

TAZ x Risk x Face To Face Art Show And Book Signing

No comments:

Punk legends Face to Face have a new book out, and a few of the members of the band will be in Los Angeles Friday night to sign it and meet fans. Over the years a lot of artists like Shepard Fairey and TAZ have done posters for them, and many of these are featured in the book, along with the artists reminiscing about working with Face to Face on various projects. Jim Evans aka TAZ has a special relationship with the band, having done the album package for their Big Choice release, and was invited to do a limited edition print for the show. Teaming up with graffiti legend RISK, he created a print that fits as part of a series that RISK and TAZ are doing together – since they are almost neighbors it is an easy working relationship.

The print is 18x24, and will be an edition of 100 signed by both the artists, it is printed by Sugar Press on exhibition quality, Sugar Paper, a unique 100% recycled blend of sugar cane and cotton fibers. The show, for those of you who want to go, is called Face to Face: 25 Years of So Cal Punk and it will be at the Spring Arts Gallery, 453 South Spring Street, in downtown Los Angeles. It will run through January 27th, the book signing and artist reception is from 7 pm until 10 pm.

Jim Evans TAZ and RISK Malibu Guitar Festival Poster Release

No comments:

Once a year the guitar festival returns to Malibu, and since Jim Evans aka TAZ lives there, it was a natural to grab him for a poster. The normally laid back beach community is known more for movie stars and surfing than rock music, so this event is pretty unique. Founded by Doug DeLuca (Jimmy Kimmel Live), and his wife Alejandra, the event raises money for a number of worthy charities. This year Steve Vai, Robby Krieger, G. Love, and many others will be rocking Malibu for a weekend. TAZ teamed up with RISK for the giclee print, with the Risk Rock Studio team doing their usual masterful job. The print will be on sale at the Guitar Festival Gallery in Malibu all week, and then a small special edition will be available online at www.LimitedRuns.com.

The size of the print is 17 x 24.5, it is a giclee, with an edition of 50 signed and numbered prints on #100 Cougar paper. There is also a special edition of 10 signed and numbered pieces, with a gloss silkscreen pass in selected areas

RISK and TAZ In “Unconventional Forces" Gallery Show

No comments:

Buckshot Gallery presents, in association with Eddie Donaldson, co-founder of GuerillaOne and longtime Los Angeles art community supporter, a collaborative exhibition between acclaimed artist and printmaker TAZ and graffiti icon RISK. The gallery will showcase a selection of collaborative posters, originals and other genre related printed ephemera, created exclusively for “Unconventional Forces“.

The exhibition opens on May 14th and runs through June 4th, 2016 at Buckshot Gallery (3129 Pico Blvd.) in Santa Monica, CA. More details on the exhibit can be found online at http://www.buckshotgallery.com/

The inevitability of TAZ and RISK joining forces seems preordained. Both artists dig through the detritus left by the body of pop culture to create their own vision of the past, present and future, all of it disguised as utilitarian art. Searching the signs and signifiers of everything from surfing to speed, rock music to science fiction, the two have attacked every surface presented to them. Posters, massive street murals, musical instruments, advertisements, and every other genre-specific form of visual culture have been decorated by TAZ and RISK.

The piercing sense of passion and brand recognition that they share make their art inseparable from the world in which it finds expression. The current exhibition shows artist and writer at their most ingenious, merging art with entertainment. “Unconventional Forces” will represent the first collaboration between these two Southern California based artists.

Kelly Graval, the multi-talented fine artist, illustrator and graffiti artist known as RISK has been synonymous with the Los Angeles art community for decades. With a career spanning 30 years, Risk has solidified his place in the history books as a world renowned graffiti legend. He has come a long way since he pioneered the painting of freeway overpasses, signs and billboards, dubbed "heavens". Although Risk loves aerosol art, he sees it as merely one genre in his life's work. From his days as a student at the USC School of Fine Arts to gallery and museum exhibits around the globe, Risk has transformed from a street artist to a rising star in the contemporary art world.

Risk's works are a cross-section of color field painting, light and space conceptualism and finish fetish sensibilities. Experiential methods exploit transparent aspects of kandy and pearl paint utilizing hi-tech materials, from California car and surf culture while staying true to his adaptive graffiti roots, recycling or re-purposing materials all the same. Risk's work is a constant juxtaposition of advanced color theory. The work depicts an ethereal Yin and Yang quality visually and conceptually.

Risk applies paint to his surfaces in multiple layers of various techniques starting with graffiti and ending with fine sprayed lacquer or resins over vintage candy, metal flake and pearl car paints. The finished product evokes emotion as the coats of atmospheric colors and gradations are trapped between the layers of lacquers and pearls. The end result is a dynamic, well-balanced and organized chaos.

Shepard Fairey & RISK Peace & Justice HPM Release Details

2 comments:

An amazing piece of work from two legendary urban artists RISK and Shepard Fairey.
Details from Obey:

About a year ago I had the opportunity to collaborate on a mural in Miami during the Art Basel weekend with graffiti legend and friend, RISK. Surprisingly this was the first time we had the chance to collaborate and it was a true honor. RISK went down to Miami first and laid a beautiful spectrum and I came a few days later with my crew and painted in the cream details. The mural turned out so well that RISK and I decided to collaborate once again and turn the mural concept into a HPM (Hand Painted Multiple) Edition. RISK hand painted the background with his custom color fades and geometric shapes/patterns over my collage then we screen printed the imagery on top and varnished the whole thing. Each of the pieces has unique details. The Edition looks amazing! Oh, they are also signed by both of us. We are going to be releasing the 1st half of the edition on OBEY this coming Tuesday and the other half on Buckshot Prints at a later date, so stay tuned for info their release.

RISK & Nathan Ota Old School New School Print On Sale Today

No comments:

1xRUN welcome back California duo of RISK and Nathan Ota as they return with Old School New School. The debut collaboration RUN Crucifix sold out almost instantly, as did Nathan's solo RUN "Birds of Play", so be sure to grab this one early. Nathan Ota took a few to talk about the latest collab in the 1xRUN Thru Interview below...

"This painting showcases the transition from the old school to the new school. As a traditional painter now, I no longer use spray-paint in my work which is evident with the skull and fat caps on the ground and having the bird on the skull is sort of a new rebirth of what I do now. These collaborations are a rebirth of Risky and I coming back and working together again after 20 years of perfecting our skills and putting it back together again like we once did in high school." - Nathan Ota

Old School New School is 16 x 20 Archival Pigment Print on 330gsm Fine Art Paper and comes as signed numbered edition of 50 by both artists

RISK & Nathan Ota Crucifix Print On Sale Today

No comments:

"This piece was from the first collaboration show that I did with Nathan Ota. Nathan and I have been painting together since high school and we do one collaboration show a year. This piece was a classic, it is classic Risk with the R, and it is from our first body of work. At the time I was going through a lot of drama with the city officials. Nathan and I were talking about how they were crucifying me. We were making jokes and then we thought of how we could translate that without being too blatant and corny. This is the image we came up with. It is an abstract urban representation of me being crucified by the city officials." - RISK

The print measures 17 x 17 Archival Pigment Print on 330gsm Fine Art Paper

This RUN comes signed, numbered and with a Certificate of Authenticity from RISK, Nathan Ota & 1xRUN

Graffiti writer RISK & artist Nathan Ota have been collaborating since their formative high school years. We’re excited to debut the first of a series of collaborations from the Californian duo, the first of which highlights a trouble laden period of time in the graffiti career of RISK. Read about the exclusive 1xRUN Thru Interview with RISK as he discusses his upcoming print with Nathan Ota HERE.
