Revok & Jim Darling Sunday Mass Print Release Details

No comments:

Artists Jim Darling and Revok recently collaborated on this found object art installation in an abandoned church in the heart of Detroit. Working on the piece for two days, the artists dragged an organ up two flights of stairs along with any other pieces of debris in the vicinity they could use to assemble the infinity symbol shown here.

"When we started this there wasn’t a plan at all. We drove around for a few days just looking at everything. He took me everywhere in Detroit. The church we picked was one of the buildings we looked at on the first or second day of my trip. There were a lot of great elements to work with and the building was amazing. It took us about two and a half exhausting days to complete." - Jim Darling

"It actually came together much faster than a typical "mural wall" or a piece I create in the studio, however it was much more physically laborious, which was really good! I remember carrying a giant organ and a piano up two narrow flights of stairs from the basement. Jim and I decided it would be most satisfying to create the installation only from objects and materials we could scavenge from the site itself. The church is massive so we carried all kinds of big heavy shit and swept 2 inches of dirt from the entire floor where the installation was created." - Revok

Sunday Mass is a 18 x 22 Inches Archival Pigment Print on 300gsm Museum Natural White Fine Art Paper with a signed and numbered edition of 150

Revok 1313 Milwaukee Print Release Today

No comments:

"Eventually I kind of came to this realization that I wasn’t interested into trying to recreate what it is I do outdoors. I am much more interested in the world itself that I have been submerged in for the last 23 years while painting and exploring the cities I have traveled to and lived in, not what it is I personally have been doing, but what I have been experiencing. The idea of creating work reflecting my personal graffiti “style” or something like that wasn’t interesting. I find graffiti much more engaging when it is graffiti. When you try to make it anything else I think you lose what makes it relevant and interesting in the first place.

Since I came to Detroit two years ago I’ve been making these assemblage pieces that are composed of bits and pieces of the city, it has definitely been a moment in time, and now it is nearly done. I made this body of work from here, about here, all made while I was living here and now I’m leaving, so that’s going to be finished. This will be the only print that I’m going to produce of this body of work. When it’s done, it’s done." - REVOK

OPENINGS: REVOK-ORDINARY THINGS the Library Street Collective Covered

No comments:

Last night saw the opening of Los Angeles graffiti artist Revok's one man show ORDINARY THINGS at The Library Street Collective in Detroit and Inside the Rock Poster was there to bring you the images.

Living in Detroit since 2010, Los Angeles graffiti writer REVOK is someone who seems up to the task of expanding his palette beyond the temporal world of street art. Since 1991, REVOK has been making a name for himself by dominating all aspects of graffiti art in cities across the country. With a distinctive style, and a competitive drive unmatched within graffiti circles, REVOK has achieved global attention reserved for a select few.

The show is a compilation of pieces that are made up from a collection of recovered objects cultivated from the streets of Detroit, then thoughtfully reassembled in what could be considered a geographical timeline: one that records the neighborhoods and streets that REVOK has continuously used as the backdrop for his street art since moving to Detroit. Although there are echoes of his background in graffiti art, REVOK is plowing forward with an individual voice as an artist, willing to transition without the shackles of graffiti art trailing behind him.

REVOK also worked with Rime on a huge piece that for me was my favorite. The piece measures a staggering 70' x 70'  and is titled 8448 Van Dyke. Like with all the pieces it's not simply item assembled but they he also added paint to each one.

The gallery was packed all night with graffiti artists and fans alike. Casey EKLIPS Zoltan, Founder of THE SEVENTH LETTER was in attendance as well. I have a feeling the people of Detroit woke up this morning to some new work around the city.

Revok also had a huge wall of photo displayed of various elements of the city that he has been taking since he arrived in 2010. The more than 90 photos kinda chronicles his travels around his new home town.

REVOK-ORDINARY THINGS the Library Street Collective

No comments:

REVOK: ORDINARY THINGS

Never in the history of art has a new genre become so adventurous, honest and powerful in such a short time. The artist REVOK sits at the forefront of this movement. His dedication, skill and determination have garnered him the respect and adoration of his peers. His meticulous attention to detail and willingness to step outside of the lines and his comfort zone not only make him a rebel, but a leader, a pathfinder and a trailblazer in the graffiti art world. Now as a fine artist, REVOK does this with grace and craftsmanship. Rearranging the memories, messages, words, warnings, colors and textures into coherent patterns with an honest and meaningful message.

These most recent works by REVOK are of particular importance for the city we call home, the city adopted by this artist. Each work consists of material cultivated and cultured in the city of Detroit. Each piece masterfully placed among its neighbors to tell a story of growth, inspiration and triumph. Each piece displaced from an urban tomb and certain death, given new life in a work of art that reminds us, exactly how beautiful this city is. It signifies a rebirth of rebirth, a preservation of decay, encapsulating time and propelling it into a new age.

This Friday, REVOK's one-man show, "ORDINARY THINGS", can be seen at the Library Street Collective in downtown Detroit.

"ORDINARY THINGS" is anything but ordinary.

Public Reception for "REVOK-ORDINARY THINGS" is Friday, November 2nd, 2012, from 8-10pm.
The show runs till January 26th, 2013. The Library Street Collective is located @ 1260 Library Street, Detroit, MI 48226 ~ ph#313.600.7443 ~ http://www.lscgallery.com

REVOK – Montana Cans -The Seventh Letter & 1xRUN present: The Detroit Beautification Project

1 comment:

In Detroit, 1xRun is excited to unveil their most recent public arts project that will bring over a dozen of the world’s premier graffiti artists to the city of Detroit for a series of murals in the neighborhoods that need them the most.

To coincide with the first phase of the project they’re excited to release a series of prints with several of the participating artists including RISK, SEVER, STEEL, REYES, DMOTE, WANE, CES, REVOK, Tristan Eaton, Dabs Myla, 123 Klan and POSE.

REVOK’s  vision for the Detroit Beautification Project is to uplift communities and brighten the day of the residents of the great City of Detroit.  Montana Cans, 1xRun and The Seventh Letter all helped to make this possible.

For the past week the smell of spray paint and the sounds of the rattle can have been echoing through Detroit. With the help of Matt Eaton, Revok has assembled a "Hall of Fame" collection of artists. With the cooperation of local cities, business owners and building owners. From the high school stadium in Hamtramck to buildings in Detroit the city has become a wide open canvass for the world best artists.  The Inside the Rock Poster Frame Street Team is bringing the sites to you. Instead of having all the pictures in one posting I decided to break them up and show each artist, enjoy.

Be sure to click on the photos to enlarge them, they are incredible. Also scroll all the way down and click older posts to see the rest of today's story's
