Pose Library Street Collective Public Matter Mural for The Belt

No comments:

About 10 days ago, Pose was in Tahiti working with Dabs Myla on killer wall for ONO'U Tahiti for their first international graffiti event. From there he came to Detroit to work on a smaller scale mural for Library Street Collective and their Public Matter art opening of The Belt. "Public Matter”, the fully accessible outdoor exhibition platform located between the Z parking garage and within the Belt, a newly redeveloped alley connecting Grand River and Gratiot Avenue between Broadway and Library Street in downtown Detroit. The Belt, named for its orientation in a former downtown garment district, also features permanent murals by more than a dozen local, national and international artists.

Library Street Collective Exhibit Z Show & Cyrcle Detroit Manifesto Print Release

No comments:

It's 2014 and Detroit is 313 years old. For the past year a massive artistic undertaking happened as artist from all over the world created murals for the parking structure and building known as the Z in downtown Detroit.  Library Street Collective recently opened a group show featuring artwork from all the participating artists. Covering a wide range of styles, techniques and mediums, artists from all over the globe gladly partook in one of the biggest urban and contemporary art shows Detroit has seen in a long time. Featuring works by such names as Dabs Myla, How Nosm, Interesni Kazki, Tristan Eaton, Cyrcle, Revok, Gaia, Remi Rough, Sam Friedman, Maya Hayuk, Augustine Kofie, Pose, Logan Hicks, and more, the exhibition is a colorful overview of the infinite creative energy from the 27 artists featured in this project. While the large murals created inside of “The Z “garage in downtown Detroit represented the street expression of their art, the sculptures, paintings and drawings exhibited at the LSC gallery showcased the participants’ fine art side. Ranging from surrealistic to expressive, abstract and futuristic, with lots of elements and influences of graffiti and urban art mixed in, the works in this show surely have something for everyone to enjoy. The exhibition is planned to be on view until the end of April

Library Street Collective would like to invite you to join them in celebrating 313 amazing years on with Cyrcle's beautiful one color hand pulled "Detroit Manifesto" silk screen on French paper. This unique and empowering message is also an homage to the "Spirit of Detroit" bronze sculpture created by Marshall Fredericks with a custom patina ink color and gold signature.

There is also a book by Detroit photographer Sal Rodriguez that documents the months of work that went into creating the murals

You can buy the print, book and any remaining art from the show on the Library Street Collective website

New Art from Vizie Pose and others for Detroit Beautification Project 2012

As the chill of winter has given way to the warm hues of spring in Detroit, 1xRun is excited to unveil one of the largest public arts projects in Metro Detroit history. During the initial phase, executed in the first 2 weeks of May, over 25 internationally renowned street artists converged on Detroit and Hamtramck for an expansive public arts project.
“The artists participating in Detroit Beautification Project span the globe and provide an international and unique perspective on art in the public domain. We as Detroiters should welcome with open arms these artists who have fallen in love with our city and choose to create here...” said Matt Eaton of CONTRAprojects who spearheaded the project.
Beginning at Grand River Ave and Rosa Parks, near the Motorcity Casino on a group a vacant buildings, the project quickly expanded across town and throughout the cities of Detroit and Hamtramck. Building owners, community leaders and local residents have been overwhelmingly thrilled with the bold, colorful and uplifting murals.

Hamtramck’s City Council wasn’t entirely approving at first. Council members, even those who appreciated the work, objected to not being informed first, the murals being painted on public property and the possible loss of value for those buildings. But check out the video and the comments by the mayor, it was good to hear.

The Art of Pose for The Detroit Beautification Project

No comments:
Hailing from The Windy City, POSE has made an indelible mark on a multitude of cites around the globe. Best known for his progressive letter style and technical precision, POSE is an influential contributor to the contemporary graffiti movement, and his work has appeared in numerous magazines, books and films.

POSE grew up a half block from the CTA’s elevated train line, and started sneaking out to practice graffiti there in 1992. Coming of age during the golden age of Chicago graffiti, POSE put in endless work on the streets. His prolific output led him to become a local legend, and the city’s most internationally recognized graffiti artist.
