Freed started out as a street "artist" in Rhode Island (photo of the original I Want To Believe above) about two years ago, and only within the last few months have decided to start releasing prints on a regular basis. The response to "I Want To Believe" was overwhelming and unexpected.
Most of his prints will deal with sociopolitical issues and how decisions made by the "haves" generally have adverse effects on the "have nots" - whose numbers are growing. I think - I hope - it is only a matter of time before the "have nots" realize that they have all the power. And instead of allowing themselves to be divided over trivial issues and controlled by fear - unite to take back their country.
The original "I Want To Believe" started as a street piece and pictured a faceless child holding the American flag. The faceless child representing a generation of children who have seen their school system pillaged, their parents sent to war (and come home to no job/house), and their healthcare made unattainable. When he decided to make the piece into a print Freed thought it was important to see the child's expression.
Freed has generously provided the regular edition and black white edition with matching numbers to one luck winner this week.
So go to the top of the post above the picture and click on comments to leave a comment to have a chance at winning the posters. Don't worry if your comment does not appear immediately I have to approve them before they are published. I will use the random number generator to pick a winner. Entries are limited to ONE PER PERSON PER HOUSEHOLD. Please leave your name with the comment, comments without names will not be accepted. Entries will be accepted until midnight Saturday September 24 PST that's two days to enter, with the winner announced on Sunday.
Huge thank you to Freed for providing the prints for the giveaway this week. Be sure to check out his work at www.ivebeenfreed.com

ReplyDeleteHonestly, I think the original, faceless version is much more powerful--and more socially inclusive. Freed's done a great job regardless.
