Tatiana Suarez and Craww Through the Veil Show at Spoke Art San Francisco

"Through the Veil" - new works by Tatiana Suarez and Craww

Spoke Art is proud to present, "Through the Veil" - a two person exhibition featuring new paintings by Tatiana Suarez (Miami) and Craww (UK) which will debut on Thursday, October 3rd at our Sutter St. gallery location.

Though both artists draw from different inspirations, Tatiana being from Miami and Craww being from Sheffield in the UK, the two artists' depiction of the female form both represent a fragile and haunting subject, albeit with distinct stylistic differences.

Tatiana's subjects, doe-eyed vixens depicted through a traditional pop-surrealism lens, expand on the artist's Cuban heritage with a tropical palate of greens and yellows, interacting with the flora and fauna of the rainforest. The artist's history as muralist, painter and illustrator come together much like an "ajiaco", a traditional Cuban stew comprised of diverse ingredients, to inform her new body of oil and acrylic paintings on paper and canvas.

Craww, who was born and raised in the United Kingdom, creates haunting and beautiful works. His subjects have a delicate fragility, depicted with extended matchstick limbs, entwined in a bed of ravens and roses, both recurring elements found throughout his paintings. His women are shown primarily with their eyes closed (a stark contrast to Tatiana's), resting in what can be interpreted as either a peaceful slumber or a welcome death.

For their second feature showing with the gallery, both artists have expanded on their traditional oeuvres: Craww has created several masterful works utilizing oil paints, a dynamic and evolutionary growth for the artist whose haunting imagery is benefitted even more so than usual by the new medium.

Tatiana Suarez, informed by her recent stint in Brooklyn as well as several new mural projects, has grown in skill and imagery exponentially with this exhibition. Suarez has been showing with the gallery since the very beginning (our second show ever) and has quickly become a fan favorite.

Please join Spoke Art Thursday, October 3rd for the opening night reception of "Through the Veil." Both artists will be in attendance.

Craww Verdant Print Release Details

No comments:

Craww is back with 1xRUN for his fourth RUN and this print is titled Verdant.

"It’s part of a series of work that inevitably started in my Moleskine sketchbook. I find the process of drawing very relaxing, almost therapeutic and tend to draw in a very “stream of consciousness way”. The organic, floral forms were an extension of that process that took on a life of their own and I’ve been exploring them across a variety of mediums including oils and acrylic paintings. With this piece I wanted to retain the simplicity of the original line drawings but add a bit of extravagance. I’ve been experimenting with gold leaf and the two mediums work very well together." - Craww

Verdant is a 15 x 20 Inches Archival Pigment Print with Foil Embellishments on 300gsm Fine Art Paper with a signed and numbered edition of 40

Craww A Few Drops Print on sale today at 1xRun

No comments:

"Like all my work, A Few Drops was just an idea that started in my sketchbook and grew from there. I draw a lot of lilies and as I worked on it, I came across the story of Juno, the Roman goddess who while nursing Hercules spilt her milk, creating the Milky Way in the heavens and Lillies where it fell to earth. Not really an inspiration for the piece, but certainly the reason for the title. " - Craww

Craww Somewhere Art Print on sale at 1xRun

No comments:

We are belatedly (and happily) entering an era where the self-described self-taught artist is no longer treated with either condescension or dismissive arrogance by the critics. The English graphic designer Craww, for example, instructed his own muse personally and patiently with results that speak well for any and all plans in his future. His style is a cool and thematically rich one with the semiotic toys of melancholy abounding. This ethereal woman could have sprung from a Greek tragedy or from a gothic novel or from the very infrastructure of a half-recalled dream. The deliberate (and barely noticeable) disproportional elements reveal her as being more mystery than menace - and thus a more beguiling seductress to the viewer's eye.

All prints are Signed & Numbered by the Artist and come with a Certificate of Authenticity from 1xRUN.
