We are belatedly (and happily) entering an era where the self-described self-taught artist is no longer treated with either condescension or dismissive arrogance by the critics. The English graphic designer Craww, for example, instructed his own muse personally and patiently with results that speak well for any and all plans in his future. His style is a cool and thematically rich one with the semiotic toys of melancholy abounding. This ethereal woman could have sprung from a Greek tragedy or from a gothic novel or from the very infrastructure of a half-recalled dream. The deliberate (and barely noticeable) disproportional elements reveal her as being more mystery than menace - and thus a more beguiling seductress to the viewer's eye.
