Kukula Decoupage Print Series Release

No comments:

1xRUN are excited to welcome back Israeli-born artist Kukula as she returns with two beautiful new prints Sicille and Blue Jane!
"I made these pieces around the same time for 2 different group shows. They were both inspired by 19th century portraits, when the hair style took an important part in showing the wealth in paintings of young women. Sicille was inspired by Dolce & Gabana previous collection. the collection is very catholic, though I’m Jewish, I’m very much inspired by the catholic church (for many reasons we won’t get into now.) I don’t often use black combined with red in such a graphic way, but I love how they used in their designs. Blue Jane was inspired by an English made china bone tea cup I saw in one of my tea cups collection books." - Kukula
Both are on sale at NOON EDT Friday at 1xRUN.com

Kukula Dreams Of Summer Print Release

No comments:

Kukula returns to 1xRUN on Monday with the release of her newest print, Dreams Of Summer. A rather appropriate print since it seems this is the winter that just wont end.

Kukula’s paintings center on feminine, doll-like figures, often surrounded by objects with sometimes clear, sometimes obscure symbolic meaning. The work registers the influences of both classical European art forms and contemporary pop culture. In her figures’ poses Kukula recalls traditional portraiture, yet the style is manifestly modern and pop-influenced. Kukula’s compositions thereby disclose her personal struggles as mediated by a rich multi-cultural heritage.

"I originally drew this painting in 2011 but didn’t get the time to paint it. I was working on a few pieces for Dorothy Circus Summer show and thought it was finally time to finish this one. I had to change a few details as my styled changed a little since I originally drew it. For this painting I tried to keep the background a little raw, so it will have some more ambiance to it." - Kukula

Kukula Gramophone Print Release Details

No comments:

1xRUN welcomes back Israeli artist Kukula with her newest print Gramophone.

"This piece was created in 2009 with oil on board. It was a part of my first solo show with Corey Helford Gallery Immortal Artifact. The theme was my personal relationship with art and how I believe that art is the closest form of immortality.

I was trying to create the emotion that can come from listening music that take you away from the physical world. I think everything in this piece is floating in nowhere, even the ground.

Honestly, I just really like old gramophones and how they were so lavishly designed like to honor the record you put on it. Today we don’t have things have beautiful tech items because they are always get better and we always need to buy new ones." - Kukula

Gramophone is a 13 x 17 Inches Archival Pigment Print On 300gsm Fine Art Paper with a signed and numbered edition of 60

Kukula Regret Print On Sale Today

No comments:

The framing option for this 1xRUN edition includes a 1" Ornate Gold frame with archival acid-free backing, UV-Glass and ready to hang hardware.

"I was drawing the top girl inspired by this art deco ad for risque lingerie and I was drawing the bottom girl inspired by something from Chanel. So they were supposed to be painted separately, but when I started working on the composition I thought they could work together. I decided that they have the same idea of luxury and that’s how the name came about too, probably because I buy stuff a lot and regret it. I think that people like this piece a little bit more than I do. That’s how I feel about it.

I think it's because I had a weird experience painting this piece. By the time I had started painting it I was already not attached to it, so I was a bit angry. I was painting very angry! I couldn’t get into it. So at one point I had a half-finished painting, and it doesn’t really make sense not to finish it after I had spent so much time on it. You don’t want to stop in the middle, especially when it looks really nice. And people really like it. I have made it into an iPhone cover that sells in Europe. Also, this piece is not very naked, so people can have it on their stuff. " - Kukula

After receiving her degree in illustration from Vital-Shenkar in 2003, Kukula moved to the San Francisco Bay Area, where she is currently based. She has worked with galleries such as CoproNason, Corey Helford, Thinkspace, Shooting Gallery and Roq La Rue.

Kukula Grapefruit Macaron Framed Print Release Details

No comments:

This RUN comes framed in a 2" Ornate Gold frame with archival acid-free backing, UV-Glass and ready to hang hardware.

"I’m so exited to have the opportunity to have a print made so similar in size and presentation to the original. I love the Grapefruit Macaron portrait because I feel it gives you the feeing of something sweet but with a terrible after taste, like grapefruit, and just like macaron, at first it just looks like a pretty cookie, but it is much more complex than that. This painting is a part of a series in which I’m trying to fuse together the love for beauty and objects with the consumer herself to the point they become one. " - Kukula
