No comments:

The Dean Ween Group are in Greensboro, NC tonight and Joshua Marc Levy has once again created a mind bending poster for the concert.

As Joshua said "It's a great honor to design & produce this print, for one of my all-time favorite bands."

Here are the details on the poster and variants
A. Show Edition of 60 signed and numbered, 19x25", 140lb French brand paper, with Metallic Silver.
B. Edition of 3 test prints where black layer is upside down.
C. Edition of 5, black layer only "large coloring sheets".

The black layer was drawn to size with a uniball pen on paper by Joshua, over the course of 4 days with “my own bare hands”. No pencils were used, Levy just went for it in ink. Very minor retouching in the computer, where it was colored.

Show Edition available at the show. Any remaining prints will go up the following Monday August 31, along with 2 test prints and the coloring sheets over www.ashevilleartfamily.com

Joshua Levy Widespread Panic San Antonio Poster Artist Edition Release

No comments:

Joshua Marc Levy did the poster for the recent Widespread Panic show in San Antonio. Now here is your first look at the artist edition variants and on sale details.

Details from Joshua on the design:
I started seeing Widespread Panic concerts in 1994. To produce a screen print for this band is a great honor.
Texas has been really good to my family over the past decade. We have created art for The Band of Heathens, Jonathan Tyler & The Northern Lights, Lukas Nelson & Promise of The Real, and now a bucket list print for Widespread Panic at The Majestic Theatre in San Antonio, TX.

Sometimes great art take years to mature. The original image of a single tiger was drawn from a photo I took, of an ancient majestic tiger inside The Museum of Natural History, NYC. Months later I mirrored the image, and it began morphing. Another year later, cubes melted, the sides of the graphics are expanding, and silver drops are dropping. The typography is hand-drawn, no computer fonts used except the copyright line.

These screen prints are hand-pulled, 100% authentic on 140lb black French Brand “muscletone” paper, and a few variants on metallic black Onyx shimmer paper. The grey areas are Metallic Silver. One of the variants has a heavy hit metallic gold. My printer Matt at Blubus did an Amazing job. The band editions total 420. My copies are strictly limited to approx. 100 count. Everything, including the paper, was made and produced in the USA. All 19x25” prints are signed & numbered. We will professionally cut down to 18x24” upon request.

Dean Ween Group Ashville Poster by Joshua Marc Levy World Premiere Exclusive

Show Edition

Artist Edition

Right now the Dean Ween Group is playing a special acoustic show at The Altamont Theater in Ashville, North Carolina. Then later on tonight they will head over to The Grey Eagle for their final show on the short tour. Just like the last 2 shows, Joshua Marc Levy did the poster for the show tonight and you see it here first exclusively.

Joshua shares his creative process for this poster:
ASHEVILLE: “It’s Gonna Be A Long Night”
“They’ll be no second chance for you!” This poster design was a huge opportunity and I couldn’t blow it. It had to be rock and roll. Fucked-up, rock and roll.  “It’s Gonna Be A Long Night” is one of my all-time favorite Ween songs and I wanted this poster to reflect that song’s vibe. I have a long running gag with a local Asheville painter, stage manager and good friend, Stuart Engel. He made a folk art painting of Mickey Mouse dressed like Alice Cooper. One of the fucking funniest paintings of all-time and I busted his balls about it for a long time. We continued to make abstract and folk art Mickey’s… Here we are about 6 months in the future, official rock and roll art, haha. This poster was hand-drawn with pencil at size on paper, and then traced in illustrator. The majority of the typography is hand-drawn. Psychedelic-punk-rock, yeah!
Remember 50% of the proceeds from sales of this series of posters, both at the shows and online, will go towards Dean Ween aka Mickey Melchiondo's studio project. 50 copies of each 19x25” poster will be available at the shows for purchase. 10-20 variants for each of the 3 shows will go on sale Tuesday March 24 around Noon at www.AshevilleArtFamily.com etsy store.  The posters are printed on 140lb black French brand paper with metallic silver. Any leftover show edition posters will be for sale as well.

Ok Dean Ween Group fans here is tonight's poster by Joshua Marc Levy for show in Atlanta at Terminal West. As I revealed yesterday the posters are a benefit for Dean Ween aka Mickey Melchiondo's studio project, which he is currently building. There will be a show edition of the poster and an Artist Edition of each poster. Check back here for the exclusive reveal of each nights poster.

Joshua on the design for tonight's poster:
ATLANTA: “Cover It With Gas and Set It On Fire”
After I got the email to start Atlanta, I went upstairs to eat some breakfast. While eating eggs, I wondered what Daisey Duck’s breasts looked like. Did she have nice feathery boobies? Was she flat? I couldn’t remember back from childhood. I went bowling. When I got back from bowling, I got high and drew this poster. Now that I look at it, the duck boobies look like two eggs over easy. The majority of the typography is hand-drawn. Atlanta was hand-drawn directly into Illustrator through a Wacom tablet.

50% of the proceeds from sales of this series of posters, both at the shows and online, will go towards Dean Ween’s studio project. Joshua said the show edition posters sold out in Charlotte last night and I would bet they sell out tonight in Atlanta.

Dean Ween Group Joshua Marc Levy Charlotte Poster World Premiere Exclusive

Artist Edition
Joshua Marc Levy designed and produced the next 3 show posters for Dean Ween Group (aka Ween Minus) shows. They are a benefit for Dean Ween aka Mickey Melchiondo's studio project, which he is currently building. There will be a show edition of the poster and an Artist Edition of each poster. Check back here for the exclusive reveal of each nights poster.

Joshua on how this all happened and the design of the posters:

“My latest screen print series began when I saw Dean Ween’s Facebook post, asking fans to help build his recording studio project. At the same time, I spoke with concert promoter Sam Katz who was finalizing a deal to get the Dean Ween Group to come play Asheville at The Grey Eagle. It was an opportunity to produce a rock art screen print for one of my favorite bands, And help the band record more in the studio. The first poster design was received so well, we decided to design one for Charlotte, and then another for Atlanta. I now work exclusively with Blubus printers here in Asheville, and it turns out these guys are Ween fans too. It’s so cool the way the universe works sometimes. A lot of love and time went into this series from everyone involved. I played a lot of Ween rarities, b-sides and streamed DWG live gigs off of youtube while designing these prints.  Here’s a little about each print…

CHARLOTTE: “Tastes Good On The Bun”
"What is going on exactly: A future Spaceship Invasion attacks the Elite! Are they flying pork roll egg and cheeses!? cheeseburgers? They taste good on the bun. Topless alien babe, gets up in the morning and smokes a spliff. Boats, fish, melting acid demon, flirting hot dog, DWG eagle takes flight in white, God Ween Satan. The black layer of Charlotte was completely hand-drawn at print size using a uniball pen over the course of 2 days. No pencils or sketches. I had no concept, no idea where I was going, I just started drawing. A lot of risk was involved, especially after so many hours, and it paid off."

50% of the proceeds from sales of this series of posters, both at the shows and online, will go towards Dean Ween’s studio project. Charlotte is printed on 140lb white French with neon ink. Any leftover show edition posters will be for sale as well.
