And Now For Something Completely Different The Monty Python Art Show Preview

No comments:

Leeds, England is set to host a pop-up gallery exhibition in celebration of the legendary work of Monty Python. Curating the artistic tribute are Leeds independent initiative Colour+Noun, who have worked closely with the Monty Python team and a talented group of UK and Internationally based artists to host this unique event.

The event will be held at Northern Monk Brewery from Friday 27th May – Sunday 29th May with the artwork available to view at the venue until Friday 8th July. All artwork will be available for sale and features one off original pieces and small, strictly limited edition print runs.

The artists involved have taken inspiration from their favorite Monty Python moments, using scenes, quotes and characters from the Monty Python collection of films, live shows and television series to inspire their artwork. The resultant pieces showcase the infamous silly Monty Python spirit in a unique and contemporary manner.

All of the artwork is officially licensed by Python (Monty) Pictures Ltd. There is a broad range of styles and mediums available, including original works, giclées, screen prints and intaglios, featuring graphic design, illustration and typography.

Python member, Terry Gilliam said of the collaboration: “It's wonderful to see how inspired artists can make Monty Python look classy, especially after all those years of Gilliam’s second-rate work. Where was all this talent when we needed it?”.

Jess Cook, Co-Founder of Colour+Noun adds: “We feel extremely privileged to have been given the opportunity to curate and host this event. First and foremost we are huge Python fans and combining this with our passion for art has been fantastic. We can’t wait to share the brilliant array of work the artists have contributed”.

Artist and contributor to the show Graham Pilling, also shares his excitement: “The genius of Monty Python is something I've always held dear. Their wonderful imagination formed an invaluable part of my upbringing, teaching me a love for surrealism and word play, as well as the importance of tempering intelligence with good old-fashioned silliness. I'm hugely honoured to be involved in this exhibition of painstakingly hand-crafted artwork, which I hope will be praised, cherished and appreciated, before inevitably becoming future landfill or nesting material for some brightly coloured parrot”.

Event details
• Event launch party: Friday 27th May 2016 from 6pm til late
