Ryan McCann is back with another great print release from 1xRUN titled Death To Damien Hirst.

"This is part of the “Death to...” series that has culminated in a solo show highlighting the death of 8 living contemporary artists. It is now on view at Guy Hepner Contemporary in West Hollywood.

The concept came to me over a year ago and took about a month to finish. I thought about having my assistant paint the whole piece for me in true Damien Hirst fashion but decided against it because painting is fun.

I am fascinated by the career of Damien Hirst and as I learned more about his work I started to feel really bad for the butterflies and approached the work from their perspective." - Ryan McCann

1xRUN are excited to welcome back mixed media artist Ryan McCann as he gives 1xRUN an exclusive sneak peak at his upcoming show Gold Chains & Champagne. Opening April 13th at Black Square Gallery in Miami.

Featuring the everyone's favorite Communists Marx, Lenin, Mao, Stalin and Engels

"The concept for the show stemmed from my love of rap and hip-hop in the 90‘s and my fascination with Communism. The excess portrayed by hip-hop artists meshed with the scarcity and ideological foundations of Communism fueled the imagery for the show. For this release I wanted to create simple works of influential communist figures that are to be purchased in our free economy. Maybe it is the irony. Consumerism and Communism at play with each other that makes me happy. I wanted to see the literal translation of this concept so we had Stalin indulge in Western culture and turned his escapades into a music video. There will be a variety of work including new blowtorch pieces, some sculptural elements and a new technique I developed that makes the wood glow." - Ryan McCann

WHAT: 65 Signed/Numbered Archival Pigment Prints Limited To Just 65 Prints "This piece is #3 in an ongoing series know as the “Death to . . .” series. When there is an artist that I admire and respect I find my self studying their body of work. I will follow their career and basically just be a fan of what they do. On occasion, there have been three so far, I will get a very specific image of the artist in his last moments. This image came to me as soon as I read the article that announced Kaws’ balloon for the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. I first burnt the image into the wood with a blowtorch, stained the wood, then painted the rest with oil and acrylic. " - Ryan McCann

Ryan McCann You Don't Get To Free The Slaves Blowtorch Art On Wood

 Ryan McCann has developed a technique manipulating fire to create images with a blowtorch and then twists them with socio-political commentary. He is from and currently lives in Los Angeles. Ryan’s portrait of renowned UCLA Coach John Wooden titled “Coach” is part of the permanent collection in the UCLA Hall of Fame. He has also done commissioned work for Gibson Guitars, Patron Tequila, and the World Champion New Orleans Saints.

 Ryan McCann has a background in sports as a former Quarterback for the UCLA Bruins and Cincinnati Bengals. When his career was cut short due to a shoulder injury he started lighting things on fire.

"This piece was inspired from the Social Network movie poster that had a similar saying regarding getting to 1million friends. That is why the original piece is 40x27 inches, the standard movie poster size. This multiple is burnt into a 3/8 inch wood panel with a blowtorch, 2-color silkscreened letters, then sealed in polyurethane. Each piece is hand branded with my signature on the front and will be signed and numbered in ink on the back." - Ryan McCann

Each piece will arrive ready to hang with a built in back mounting.
