Sarah Joncas Medusae Art Print

No comments:

Joining 1xRUN for her 12th RUN, welcome back Toronto artist Sarah Joncas as she joins them with her latest edition Medusae. Sharing swirling subject matter with her Aegean Sisters, for this piece (which was part of her most recent exhibition Betwixt and Between over at Thinkspace) Joncas continues to explore the boundaries between her acrylic and oil styles. Read on as Sarah gives us the story behind this edition and much more . . .
"Medusae was apart of a two person show that recently passed at Thinkspace Gallery called Betwixt and Between. I didn't have a specific theme in mind with the show, but was more exploring an aesthetic and trying to push the boundaries of my oil and acrylic painting juxtapositions. The acrylic being used in a more graphic and secondary method, while the oil being used to form out the figure and other more rendered subjects. In 'Medusae' I used the acrylic to help me produce a gradient and flowing background, which would have been more difficult in oils. As far as the idea behind the piece, it was really about having fun with movement and dancing jelly fish, which were focused on in a few of my paintings for the show." - Sarah Joncas
The print is a 12 x 16 Inches Archival Pigment Print on 310gsm Moab Fine Art Rag Paper with a signed & numbered edition of 60.

Sarah Joncas Summer Print Release Details

No comments:

Sarah Joncas has a new print be released by 1xRUN on Thursday and it's titled Summer.

"I made 'Summer' last year for the annual group exhibition Suggestivism, which was held at Copro Gallery. Without any themed restrictions, I was free to paint whatever I felt like making and because the seasons have always made (and continue to make) an impression on my work, the painting really was just about illustrating that. I wanted to depict a simple portrait of a modern girl under the influence of summer! It was fun, I usually focus on winter more than any other season, being Canadian.

As it's comes to my more recent work, this painting feels more cute to me than what I typically do. I often portray a darker side in my work, or at least a more serious tone, but this portrait was colorful and spunky." - Sarah Joncas

Sarah Joncas Blossom Print Release Details

No comments:

Sarah Joncas is releasing a new print with 1xRUN on Monday titled Blossom.

"I made the original painting 'Blossom' for the 4th Annual Supersonic show that opened this past January. The painting was less about a deeper theme and more about exploring a different direction with my work. I like to bring in graphic elements from time to time and this painting was all about that aesthetic. Kind of a Mucha-esque inspiration. Since then I've been enjoying the style in quite a few newer works. I find it beautiful and fun to play around with, especially when I get to contrast the flat, brighter colours of acrylic alongside the richer skin tones in oil." - Sarah Joncas

Sarah Joncas Shadow Boxer Print Release

No comments:

Sarah Joncas returns to 1xRUN on Tuesday with slightly disturbing yet intriguing print titled Shadow Boxer.

"I had a reference image I took of myself many years ago. I had lost my sketchbook that day and had nothing to paint on, so I started using myself as a model in some kitschy noir-like photo shoot. I always liked the photo and wanted to paint it up, but it wasn't until this show came around that I found a proper place for the image.

Though I'm not at all as dramatic, violent, or angry as the painting displays (quite the opposite), it was a lot of fun to role play that kind of revengeful character! I've always said painting is kind of my quiet/shy way of acting... I like to paint narratives and covey them in a way that touches emotions and stirs up thought, kind of like a film might." - Sarah Joncas

Sarah Joncas Bleach Print

No comments:

1xRUN has a new print from Sarah Joncas titled Bleach that is on sale now and has the perfect creepy factor to it.

"This painting was inspired by the movie 'The Cell', much underrated by my perspective. I've always loved a good psychological thriller, but this one had such great visuals and cinematography!

Since this was almost a piece of fan art, it was mainly about exploring that eerie feeling and atmosphere of the film. Overall what I most loved about making the work was the contrast between the milky water and her textured, dappled skin. I do indulge in a creepy piece of art here and there, but I feel I really pushed myself with the realism and quality of this work. It's very simple too, not a lot to the composition, but it has a great punch to it." - Sarah Joncas

Sarah Joncas Deep Sea Print Release Details

No comments:
Just so you know this image may be NSFW for the prudish, there are bewbies and some people are still afraid of them for some reason.

Sarah Joncas returns to 1xRUN today with her hypnotic print titled Deep See.

"This was included in a show I had last year at the Dorland-Haight Gallery. Due to it being a two person show, I had no focus on a particular theme, but just created the works as I wished. I concentrated on refining my portraits a little more, enjoyed playing with lighting, which is what this painting was mainly about. I wanted to capture the form and figure better and it was a nice exercise to have the reflected light hitting her face. Since there was no theme for the show I used it as an opportunity to practice my portrait skill and experiment a little more with lighting. The piece was a chance for me to really enjoy the form and figure." - Sarah Joncas

On sale Wednesday at NOON EST at 1xRUN.com, they will also have a painting on sale at the same time too.

Sarah Joncas Genevieve Print Release

No comments:

Sarah Joncas returns to 1xRUN today with another striking print titled Genevieve.

"This painting was a commission I finished last year for a client who simply specified he wanted a pin up with tattoos. He gave me a good amount of freedom with the look and coming together of the image, even asking me not to show him progress on the piece until it was done. Overall I had a lot of fun with the painting! I decided to go with a more nautical theme to the girl, mainly because it's an interest of mine. Though I've done many pin up works in the past, I haven't painted many tattooed girls. The tessellated Japanese wave is also something fun and new for me, it was a good challenge." - Sarah Joncas

On sale today at NOON EST at 1xRUN.com. They will also have an original painting Skin Deep on sale as well.

Sarah Joncas Makes Her 1xRUN Debut With Dirty Show Print

No comments:

Toronto artist Sarah Joncas makes her debut with 1xRUN today with her Dirty Show print.

"This piece was made for an erotic art show in 2011, so the idea was just to make something sexy. Sexuality is normally something touched upon in my work, but this was an opportunity to just have fun with it. I usually find the more dark and mysterious to be beautiful, so it was inevitable that I'd make her have a less than bubbly kind of sex appeal.

The group show that this piece was supposed to be a part of actually ended up falling through a month before it was to take place. Though disappointing, I continued on with this painting and it ended up being one of my most popular. So, I suppose I should be more thankful than anything - I may not of even put the time into the idea if the show hadn't been offered to me!" - Sarah Joncas

This print is a 15 x 20 Inches Archival Pigment Print on 300gsm Museum Natural Fine Art Paper with a signed and numbered edition of 40
